"Steinbrenner: I Believe in Torre"
Well, damn...I'm glad to know that. The fact he hasn't been fired yet was a dead giveaway to me. I guess Torre is the new Yankees story to driven into the ground for this week.
You can lock this thread if you want...I just wanted to call out ESPNY for another example of meaningless information about the Yankees being more important than anything else. Cory Lidle dies last year and it took days for them to stop talking about it while a player on the defending champs dies and it's a secondary story.
By no means am I calling a death of a player meaningless but am I not wrong that they couldn't stop reporting on every detail of Lidle's death and the plane crash while they won't talk more than a minute or two about what all happened with Hancock and his car accident. If you threw some pinstripes on him, I'm sure they'd be talking about him over the NFL draft, Randy Moss and the Mavs choking against the Warriors for sure.
Thank god for ESPN...I would never get to hear about everything going with a 9-14 team in last place without them.

shoalz, you're right on the money for the most part. not to negate the story of the cardinals pitcher (or defend the WWL), but the fact that lidle slammed his plane into a building in manhattan had enough shock value (think: 9/11) where even regular news was running with it.
the biggest problem i have right now is comcast dragging their fucking feet on getting that national sports cable channel to compete with disney up and running.

ESPN just reported that Hancock was bombed according to people in the bar he was at prior to the accident. He also told ESPN's Dave Campbell, also in the bar, that he missed the first half of the game from a day earlier because he got totally hammered the night before.
I feel sorry for his loved ones but I can't feel sorry for an individual who willingly hops into a vehicle and drives drunk. Thankfully, he plowed his stupid ass into a big ole truck parked on the side of the road and not a family of five in a minivan.

If Lidle hadn't have been in a plane that hit a building in NYC , I seriously doubt it would have received the coverage that it did. The news hacks initially made it into a "possible terrorist attack" story. 9/11 much?
Plus, they also captured a nice raging inferno on tape... which makes for good "news eye candy." Blame the media for overblowing a story and capitalizing on the "cool" shots.
If Hancock's death had included some nice airable footage, I am sure it would have received more attention than it did. He didn't die in a "spectacular fashion"... hence less coverage.
I understand with the 9-11/plane angle with Lidle's death but you know deep down that's a bigger story on ESPN because it was a Yankee. Everything seems to be more dramatic when it involves "America's Team". I realize I'm not the first guy to complain about the verbal felatio of the Yankees but it's becoming more of a turnoff for with ESPN. Whenever I see the interlocking NY logo pop up on the screen, I flip the channel. There really is no way they won't stay out of the headlines...it's a top story when they suck, it's a top story when they win. I'd like to learn more about the great starts to the season by the Brewers or the Braves. Admittedly, I enjoy seeing Team Turmoil struggle right now but it can't possibly be the #1 story in the sports world on a regular basis.

Surely it could only be a complete dumbass who is under the age of about 30-35 that would refer to any team but one as America's Team.
That's not a catch-phrase du jour, young tards...it's a proper nickname for one particular franchise...and it ain't the Yanks, nor any other MLB team.

Not to be a dick [/yeah,right], but this is reason #48 why I can't get even halfway through one of Schotzie's sports "takes" anymore.
I appreciate the effort he puts into it, and it's hard to bash someone who is at least trying to bring good sports conversation to this board...
but jeebus, Schotz...your droning would get left out of a high school newspaper.
