Teacher related question, please
I'm not sure if I have a question or just need a sounding board. A friend would like to know if this is appropriate for an 8th grade History teacher. We'll call him Mr. XXX.
1. A student teacher struggled with the behavior of the class the entire trimester. The majority of the time Mr. XXX left the class at the beginning of the period and came back near the end. When Mr. XXX was present he rarely stepped in or engaged the class. It was as if he totally turned the class over to the student teacher and didn’t take the class back up until the student teacher was finished with his 3 months there. There was a lot of wasted time and not much provided academically.
2. On a couple of occasions Mr. XXX spent an entire period lecturing kids on behavior, singling out several kids in front of the class, discussing their individual personalities and faults.
3. There were packets given out and students were expected to learn the information from several sources with teacher assistance and teacher lesson at a minimum. Many (difficult) tests were given in which the students were not adequately prepared and the majority of kids failed. He provided "retakes" for most every test because of that reason.
4. Mr. XXX made it apparent that he saw no reason why kids needed any extra help or “butt whipping” as he called it. He called the kids who didn’t perform academically “lazy.” This might apply to some of the students, but there was a handful of kids who did not deserve this criticism.
5. Although the class was under control as far as behavior under his authority, there was not consistency in rules. There was a lot of ridicule for behaviors instead of consistent discipline. Mr. XXX would throw balls (soft racquetball type balls) at the kids. He seemed to do this out of frustration to surprise the child. An example would be when someone asked what he thought was a silly question a “wake up” ball would fly at or near them.
6. The students were never required to bring their History textbook to class. They were required to do their interactive notebook as homework. Most of the 2nd trimester was spent with kids working on a power point project. They either worked alone or with 1 or 2 others. There were weeks of wasted time in class, kids having social conversations or just playing on the computer. The third trimester there was another power point project. The same scenario occurred for weeks. Except the 3rd trimester he allowed the kids to use their iPods while working on their projects.
7. In early May, Mr. XXX was giving one of his rare History lectures to the class and one student commented that Mr. XXX should become President (of the US). His response was “I could never do that, I don’t like people, I think most people are idiots.”
8. When he explored History sometimes his conversations seemed uncomfortable and unnecessary. He brought up rape more than a few times. When talking about the slaves and slave owners and in an in class critique of Miranda vs. Arizona. His explorations of these topics were “ungentle."
9. When some kids asked inappropriate questions Mr. XXX liked to respond with "Are you retarded?"

Mr.XXX needs to learn how to be a teacher-- just my 32 years of experience being locked up with a thousand teenagers talking !!

Fucking RACK these 4 attributes of that teacher.
Our children are turning into a bunch of goddamn whiny fucking pussies because they're coddled.......If little johnny is out of control and doesnt want to listen in school or to his parents/teacher, he shouldnt be disciplined or yelled at-he needs meds, therapy and special treatment...........

RACK him for taking the hardline with those punkass little fucks.
The other shit is borderline nuts.......this guy must not like his job very much, because he probably wont have it much longer.

My daughter graduates in 2 weeks. In her 12 years I have seen teachers that totally suck, some that are outstanding and various mediocre "gone at the last bell" educators and some that are not only outstanding in class but go far and beyond their required duties, It pretty much is a microcosim of life in general. I just watch what is going on and make sure my kids keep the proper perspective even if the teacher is a radical loon, solid by the textbook or a lazy fuck. I make sure they pass with solid grades because that's all that really matters in the real world.

A student teacher taking a class of 8th graders... Anyone ever been a student teacher of 7th or 8 th graders here besides me? I think Socalvansmack has and still is.
In fact, I started as a 7th and 8th grade Math teacher and there isn't any sane person on the planet that will say those of that age group don't respect authoritaaaahhhh You have to be tough on them or they will roll your ass out and they know it. In my history, the kids came up and told me the 3 previous teachers in THAT year quit/broke down in front of them as they worked collectively to beat said teachers down. I yelled at them, took them outside, ran them to the fence and back over and over, etc. Some of the Mexican boys started shutting the fuck up when I kicked them out back and said hold that chain link pole out in the heat. I'm sure when they made it to the big leagues of the Corcoran prison, they were comfortable with the fences. You aren't there to be their friend... you are there to check them up and get them through those years to make it to high school as they seperate themselves as either winners or losers right in front of you.
You almost have to be a Tony Soprano to survive as a middle school teacher or you will get buried by those little fuckers. The thing is... those little fucks respect somebody that drops the hammer as they are looking for guidance at that age. If you think I'm full of shit, then go to any middle school, see how it is, and then tell me I'm full of shit.
CNY BigOld... 32 years of high school teaching and you've never dealt with junior high kids? STFU. You know not of what you speak. Teaching kids can be rewarding to those that understand the developmental stages. What kind of asshole were you to your teachers at that age? I was notoriously disruptive. My teachers said I would be a good one because I was a tirant back then (pre-high school). Trust me, what comes around goes around and I got it dished back.
Lastly trev... you don't "lecture" kids at those ages and younger. You "teach." Fucking college professors aren't teachers nor know how to teach, but they get paid a hell of a lot more for some reason.
I that guy doesn't burn out or get fired for throwing shit at the little tards, then he'll learn how to become a good teacher after about 3 years. I have a teaching credential in two states and won't ever do it again. Those that don't cut it in the classroom yet stay in education tend to become administrators. Am I wrong there socal? hahahha I ran into guy I taught with years ago a few days ago. He told me he is now a principal at this little school. I told him I know that school as I went there from K through 6. He had 3 years of teaching experience, was divorced, and then got into the Mormon church dealio. Speaking of Mormons, they are a judgmental lot aren't they?

So crucify the man.
Btw, 'Mr X' ..... you can call me Prime ..... was run.
Great insight, AP. I believe managing a class doesn't involve the tactics this guy is using. There has to be a better way. This teacher sounds slighty nutty to me. I'm curious as to what a teachers duties are to a student teacher. Common sense tells me leaving him alone with the class every day isn't what is supposed to happen.

Fuck that. These kids are at the critical stage where they need to be disciplined if they're doing stupid shit or acting like assbeads. RACK this guy checking those little fucks and putting them in thier place when they need it.
They're in Junior High-which means one of thier daily activities will be to see how far they can push that line on an authority figure. Its in thier DNA. Using 'kid gloves' in this situation would be the absolute worst thing to do. I'll bet the same little fucks who act out in other classes know better than to do that in this guys class because they know they'll get punked.
Slightly? This teacher sounds slighty nutty to me.
Dude sounds certifiable. I mean, the rape shit is just way over the fucking top-as is the 'student teacher' thing. Then again, if dude is a shitty teacher, it might be to the kids benefit that he isnt there the entire time..............Without seeing it firsthand, who fucking knows.
Also, these kids might be *gasp* stretching the truth on this guy too since he wont put up with thier bullshit and has no problem jacking them.

I too had similar larning troubles, thus the lifting heavy stuff job I have and myincessantconstant need to prove I am better than every one else here by making up shit about how great my pathetic life is, and pretending to be a major player here by judging others without actually stepping up myself and contributing, outside of the usual homosmack and dick and vag references I recycle.

Yes, and I believe I had your daughter in my class several years ago. More than once I looked at her and asked, “Are you retarded?” She always replied, “Are you?”War Wagon wrote:Goobs is a history teacher?

Something else you want to tell us trev, or is this a term used instead of semester out on the left coast?
