Red Hook beer?

Post by King Crimson »

my buddy was telling me the other day that Budweiser or Miller bought Red Hook 5 years ago. he's often full of shit, claiming it's obvious the quality is not as good, etc. i've drinking red hook for a long time since at my last crib it was the only reasonably priced 6 pack that was deece and not 9 bucks a sixer at the korean liquor store. is this true?

i had heard many years ago that sierra nevada had been bought by bud....and i *did* stop buying sierra nevada since it did seem to not be as good anymore. used to really like the porter. though, i don't know if they were bought out.

I believe it is partly true... I think Anheiser Busch distributes Red Hook and owns a large part of the stock- but I think Red Hook still brews their own beer (Hence the reason it is still tolerable)
Yeah fuckers.... I'm back

That's pretty damn obvious.

Google is your friend, fuckface.
As part of an equity investment in the Redhook Ale Brewery in Seattle, Anheuser-Busch wholesalers have distributed Redhook's superior microbrewery products since 1994 in select U.S. markets. Brands include Redhook Extra Special Bitter (ESB) Ale, Ballard Bitter Ale, Blackhook Porter and Wheathook Ale, among others.

Anheuser-Busch expanded its participation in the microbrew segment by signing a distribution and equity agreement with Widmer Brothers Brewing of Portland, Ore., one of America's leading microbrewers. The alliance allows Anheuser-Busch to expand its participation in the craft/specialty beer segment while providing Anheuser-Busch wholesalers with a unique set of beverages to sell in their local markets.

Not really.

Most of it doesn't come from Seattle anymore, either.

The dropoff in quality was immediate and obvious.

AB is by far the greatest enemy of the microbrew industry that there is, bar none.

I'd say they fucked up Widmer, too, except Widmer was already fucked up, and catered to the faggot market anyway. Best selling micro in the country is made out of wheat, so is obviously geared to the light-in-the-loafers crowd.

No "micro" that has sold out to Busch will ever enter my system. I refuse to support the corporate takeover of the industry that grew up with me, side by side, partners in crime the whole way. And I have no problem razzing others for supporting the trashing of the industry, either. Fucking traitors. I seeth with anger any time I hear anyone order a Widmer product.

Agreed that Widmer brews aren't what they used to be... Still love a Pyramid Hefeweizen, even if that makes me gay in the U&L eyes.

Other than Widmer, probably my favorite U&L brew is Thomas Kemper, though I haven't had it in years.

BTW, the link that I found that other AB info on said that the Red Hook Brewery was in New Hampshire.

not "the" Red Hook Brewery, but "a" Red Hook Brewery.

the best U&L beers IMO were the late Bert Grant's. pioneer of micros.

I sure hope that AB hasn't bought out Olympia and is trying to fool the public up there with a lame/tame version of that great beer !

Hang in there old man. Looks like your body's starting to quit on you, and it started with your taste buds.

No, Pabst did. Oh, probably...20+ years ago. Hasn't been a functional brewery in Tumwater(Olympia wasn't in Olympia, oddly enough, but in the Olympia suburb Tumwater, to the immediate south) in probably a decade.

Oh, and they closed down Lucky Lager, which was right across the creek in Vancouver, next to I-5...probably 20 years ago. No more cases of 11 ounce bottles for $2.99, or whatever we used to pay.

Whatever you're drinking, I think you've had enough.

Oly still comes in the 11 oz jug shaped bottles, i think.
