Actually Mike I'm about TEN lbs. "overweight" (if that), so for the sake of argument (and real life) I'll have to roll with "lame" where this board is concerned.

Spot On

That's why I'll never buy new, always get something one or two years old - under 20K mileage

This Avalon was $32,000 new - Got it for $24,400

I STILL would never own a Japanese-made car, but I ALMOST would own this one:

Trust me, there is NO rainbow decals to be found ANYWHERE on one of these cars- fast as FUCK, handles like it's permanently attached to rails, and still gets great gas mileage. Pisses me off to no end that the Big Three domestic automakers refuse to produce a car like this.

Oh, good Gawd, do you guys not get it? KC did not buy an Avalon deciding whether the engineering aspects were all up to his expectations or for whether or not Japanese is better than good ole American. It's in the thread title...he bought it for his wife! Something he knew she would like, game over.

I'm thinking along the same lines these days. I've always driven a Honda Civic, but our kid is going to be legal to drive next year, so he will get my Civic. He gets it handed down. So...what do I want? I'm going vintage, because I'm not too far from work and can get a ride if an old car breaks down, plus I've worked on old cars before. So, I'm trying to find an old Jag XJS or an old Volkwagen Karmann Ghia convertible, which was originally way cheaper but harder to find these days. There are tons of old Jags on ebay in Florida and SoCal, but no Karmann Ghia ragtops to be found.

Then again there is the practical side. My hubbie wants me to buy a Honda CRV when we give the kid my Civic. I have lived long enough to know that everyone does what they need to do. Early on in life I had fun cars, then had practical cars, and now I am ready for a fun car again. Not a CRV.

So, at this time it's a great time for an Avalon in KC's life. He got a great deal, it's a good looking car, and he bought it for his wife. Good enough for me. I applaud him.

As for the Japanese bias, my dad was at Pearl Harbor, and on the cleanup crew at Nagasaki. I met him and my mom for dinner tonight to celebrate his 82nd birthday. He drives a Nissan truck that he got this year, and has gotten grief for it from some folks who know he was in WWII. His words are...'long time ago, and it has nothing to do with what I drive'.

Yes, it is a good thing we won WW 2. Otherwise we'd have had to buy all kinds of German and Japanese products and play tour guide to their tourists.
When I was a kid we brought pennies to school for the war effort (kill the Japs, I called it). I hated everything Japanese, lanterns and beetles included. Much to my chagrin when I bought a new Dodge back in the 80's and popped open the hood to find---
a Mitsubishi engine !!! The same folks that brought us the Jap Zero !!
I now own a Nissan Maxima--game over.

I'm asking seriously.

Are you retarded?

I got to thinking about that.
Your history as a board retard is well documented, but in real life -- are you a retard?

Almost 10 yrs on the boards, and whenever someone lays some smack on you you offer nothing other than the reply of a retard back at them.
No smack, nothing interesting or witty, just some retarded blurb back at them.

If you're a real life retard I am going to approach you differently.

the wire and I are prolly gonna be in the market for something close to new, soon. I will admit that the japs make a better car than we do, but, I am still thinking of buying american for the same reason you bought this avalon.

American cars absolutely plummet in value, but, IMO, they are nearly as good as the jap stuff. This being the case, I could see myself dropping 8K on a low miles taurus as opposed to 18k for a similar accord. It all comes down to what you get for what you pay. The accord is better than the taurus, but, is it 10K better? I doubt it.

Too bad John Lingenfelter got hisself dead. He was an absolute mutherfukking wytch with smallblock chevies. Sub 2 seconds to 60? Day um. Imagine the look in the squids eye as that thing trounces a fukking sportbike off the line. If I had one of those things, I'd get a jet too, to carry it wherever just to light up some rich frenchie in a bugatti. The bug might take it top end, but, no fukking way in the quarter. Sub nine seconds? Wow. Almost as quick as an old gull wing benz, huh RJ? :)

Funny you would bring that up-Motor Trend recently had an issue out called "Vette vs. Jet". The Lingenfelter and a Blue Angel F-18 Hornet raced to 200 mph.

The fucking 'Vette won.

At the end, rides were exchanged-the author of the article got an incentive ride (and passed out during takeoff) in the F-18 and every Blue Angels pilot got a ride in the Vette.

Truer words were never spoken. His work was nothing short of incredible.

Fortunately for us, his engineering legacy still lives on:

Interesting. I Dont know much about F-18's, but I was pretty impressed that someone would even attempt to pit a car against a jet like that.

Also, there are video's somewhere on the net of the lingenfelter smashing Hyabusa and various other crotch rockets.

Incredible.

Actually, the Mach isnt that bad-an aluminum driveshaft, 4:11 gears, cold air induction, headers, and a borla exhaust give it a nice bite. Never got around to supercharging it, and now its just been sitting for over a year-needless to say, it isnt going to happen. It'll be turning into a Z06 in the coming month.

RACK the Lingenfelter Takes!!!!!

as a kid...i watched him DOMINATE Small and Big BLOCK COMP Eliminator Racing.

we were at a race outside of Cincitucky...and i watched John and his crewman LIFT a Complete Block and Tranny IN and OUT of a Rail.

HUH?....yeah...they did.

John Lingenfelter was NAILZ.

kinda Cool that Lingenfelter and Jim Head were battling out the Small Block C/ED WAR back in the Day (Super Comp equivelant..fyi).

Lingenfelter had the whole engine package...Jim Head had the cylinder head design.

Lingenfelter continued in his pursuits with the Big Block and Jim Head went on to Top Fuel Funny Car.

John Lingenfelter....RIP...was AWESOME for Chevrolet, et al.....l

Nice to see you coming to your senses. Wasn't very long ago you were pimping the gt500 stang. I pointed out that the Z06 would wipe it's dick on the stang's curtains, but, you seemed to think otherwise.

I have been a lifelong ford/mustang fan, but, ya gotta give it up to chevy on the Z06. It absolutely pwns ANYTHING with a price tag under a few hundred grand and many with tags north of that. There are stupid money ferraris out there that hae to work really really hard to beat one, and in that sort of performance range, either car is generally wayyyy more capable than the pilot.

Rack you on your impending Z06 ownership.

Have you driven one yet?

At the time, the Z06 was nothing more than "talk" and "rough numbers" of what it could be. I wanted to see hard numbers and car versus car-and until that happened, the GT500 was my choice by default. Obviously, i'd take a Z06 over a GT500 any day of the week now.

The GT500 is an awesome car, but the hard numbers dont lie. Even though they are matched in the horsepower department, the Z06 shines in other very important areas where the Mustang falls woefully short (The Z06 is nearly 690 pounds lighter, and the coefficient drag isnt even close).

Yes, quite a few times. Just an awesome fucking car. I've even taken the new C6 coupe with the Z51 suspension package out around town a few times, and am highly impressed by it as well. One thing is very clear-GM nailed it with these supercars. They are truly a joy to drive.

A standard Corvette can be had for about $45K-55K depending on options and whether it's a coupe or convertible. The Z06s sticker for about $74K, but good luck trying to BUY one for that....they've been selling for around $5K-15K over sticker since the C6 versions came out in '06.

You have to keep in mind the F/A-18 was designed for carrier use and it goes off the steam catapaults at 140 kts in about 2 seconds. Due to having heavy landing gear and all of the hydraulics in the gear, it takes awhile to get off the ground on a normal runway. You don't even "rotate" until you are at 140 kts and are at about 150 when the gear comes off the ground.

Maybe there was a reason they didn't challenge a much lighter USAF jet that doesn't need the heavy undercarriage.

Also, I was wondering why this thread went 3 pages so I finally opened it to see WTF. Another KCTard beatdown.
