US Open.....call it
(as always, there are no official picks until the Monday following the close of the tournament)
I'm going with Padraig (yeah, he is related to Joey) Harrington....

this isn't a draft....pick whoever you think is going to win....although there's nothing wrong with picking that guy....great playerDallasFanatic wrote:Damn Felix that is my pick.
I'll go with Luke Donald
no real specific reason for picking Harrington (other than the fact the guy is probably one of the six or seven best players not named Panthera tigris)....he hasn't played particularly well this year in the US, but he seems like the guy that's on the verge of something spectacular......
he's playing with Ernie Els and Zach Johnson for the first and second rounds....nice grouping there.....they'll get some serious tv time....and my DVR will get a serious workout....

If you're looking for a dark horse, Ernie Els is the only player in the field to have won at Oakmont.

Take a trip in the Wayback Machine, and you'll remember that dude rarely used his old steel-shafted, steel-headed Titlist off the tee.
One of my golfing buddies watched him win one of his Am Championships out at Pumpkin Ridge. He naturally followed the favorite all day. Said to the best of his recollection, Earl Jr didn't pull his driver out of the bag all day, and hit all of the long tee shots with a 2I...en route to winning easily.
If Cabby goes old-school up in it, he might just run away with the US Open.

Could be the rule is already as tired as the constant attention paid to the world's best golfer.Felix wrote:^^^^^^ somebody ban this motherfucker right now......RumpleForeskin wrote:If ***** is as confident as he was up in Liverpool with his long irons last year, then he won't need his driver.

My rooting interest is basically anyone but Rory, because he's such a fucking dick(and was nasty to my Homey, Ben Crane); and anyone but Stuart Cink, because the amount of time he would spend after the tourney telling us how fucking great he is would be nauseating(although my friend points out that he's done a lot of charity work in my area, and deserves a little slack).

I'm sorry, but I'd blow my fucking brains out all over the first tee if I knew I was paired with Ben Crane. Slow players are not good for the game.Dinsdale wrote:My rooting interest is basically anyone but Rory, because he's such a fucking dick(and was nasty to my Homey, Ben Crane)

There is a fine line between having balls and being dumb. Dude will be considered dumb if he takes the "#17 at Sawgrass" approach for the Open.Ken wrote:I'll take Sean O'hair. Dude's been money when it comes to hitting the fairways. Just that minor detail called 'club selection' that he's gotta get worked out.

You act like it's an endemic problem w/Sean. His club selection on that particular hole happened to be subpar, forgive the pun. That's all.RumpleForeskin wrote:There is a fine line between having balls and being dumb. Yeah, and look how that turned out for him. If he played it safe and perhaps got aggressive on 18, then he might have caught Phil. I have nothing against O'Hair. He is a good, young player who will win a lot of tournaments over the next few years if he can leave his ego at the first tee.Ken wrote:You act like it's an endemic problem w/Sean. Really, thanks for the enlightenment. Coulda sworn he took the PGA.
Did you somehow misconstrue:

You seem to have no ego problems when you select clubs that a 9yo girl would think was pussy...as she beats you about the head with a 7 iron.
Coulda sworn he took the PGA.
I coulda sworn that was Earl's kid.

Take a breather you fuckin' short knocker. You think I give a shit what you think? JFC, opinions are not meant to be taken personal on a fucking message board. I'm sorry. Happy now?Ken wrote:Oh, and what the hell does ego have to do w/this? Is misclubbing a function of ego all the time or something?

No, he would not have caught Phil. If O'Hair pars 17, then he needs to hole out from the fairway for an eagle at 18 just to force a playoff. He needed to birdie 17 to have any chance whatsoever of catching Phil.RumpleForeskin wrote:Yeah, and look how that turned out for him. Yeah, I guess. Its just not something seasoned pros would try to do if it was going to cost them a couple hundred grand. Now, to the average fan, what O'Hair did was awesome. No guts, no glory.Dinsdale wrote:But by that theory, then every club selection made by any Tour pro would be based upon "ego," would it not?

Okay, now bear with me, 'cuz I'm gonna go KCtard on you. It's not like this hasn't been rolled out there before and can be pegged for the 'been there, done that' file. No matter, I'm gonna roll it our there for you since this seems as good a time as any. As a matter of fact, it's the epitome of 'as good a time as any'. You ready? Okay, here goes:RumpleForeskin wrote:Take a breather you fuckin' short knocker. You think I give a shit what you think? JFC, opinions are not meant to be taken personal on a fucking message board. Well, you must give a shit what I think because...
You responded to what I posted.
Yeah, I know, tough to get your arms around, but it is what it is. Not only did you respond, but you also wet yourself doing it. Ouch.

Really?
I didn't realize that Earl's Kid still hadn't qualified as a "seasoned pro."
Young Mr. Woods didn't play for second when he was 20...he sure the hell doesn't now that he has a few hundred million in the bank.
Pretty sure there was a "seasoned pro" by the name of Palmer who never failed to go for it in an attempt to take the big prize.
