You better check the road conditions, I would imagine coming into the basin on the 50 is seriously fucked. From SoCal you could take the 395 and come over from Minden Nv. Good Luck.

Incredibly, 50 is still open, but my revised plans have me leaving tonight and
staying in Bishop. Drive in to Tahoe from the East.

If you've never taken 395 before, keep it within 5 MPH of the speed limit. Every little town along the way makes a living off of speeding tickets.

Depends. Fires on the south shore and winds blow east to west. As long as he's on the CA side of the lake, it shouldn't be horrible. It's probably worse in Reno right now.

If the winds blow east to west and it's burning on the south shore, doesn't that mean california is in the on deck circle to get the shit burnt out of it?

Seer,

You will turn West to Tahoe at Minden NV, go up a steep grade next to the Heavenly Valley Resort Nv. Side and drop into South Shore by Stateline.

Be carefull because of the smoke like Mike said ,it might be nasty up at the Ridgeline by Heavenly. Find out at Topaz Lake Cal/Nv Stateline by stopping at the Best Western Resort and Casino as to whether it may be better to come in using the highway from Carson City instead. Good Rest Stop anyway that's about an Hour 30 from the Lake.

Be Safe

Considering the winds that come out of Carson City and the Reno area, you would think it would be more unstable to travel from that direction.

sounds like a beerfest to me. or perhaps rum. whatever the boy wants. he gets.

Errrr...I meant west to east. Although, the Tahoe basin is big enough to kind of generate its own weather patterns.

Fuck that. This plan sucks.

The reason being, that if he's leaving tonight, this travel plan does not include a slight detour east to make a run through Fallon.

any time a person has an opportunity to spend time in Fallon, they should jump on it.

Oh, and tell the tweeker indian chick at the gas-mart that I'm soryy about not fucking her in the bathroom that night -- I didn't want to miss my ride...

And she was ugly.

But take a run through Fallon, for sure. But make sure the tank is full, because it's been said before, but it's worth repeating...

You don't wanna run out of gas miles outside of Fallon at 2:30AM.

And also worth repeating -- DO NOT speed on 50, 395, 95, or even I-80 once you get north of Fallon/Carson City/that general neck of the woods. That's no joke, there.

You didn't need to qualify that... when any persons spends the night in Fallon, it wasn't voluntary.

Did a domestic-abused Indian skank try to do you in a gas station restroom, by any chance?

Truly a slice of heaven, that Fallon.

i had to be on good behavior so no skank patrol. i was on probation for an illegal u-turn and open container in Eli, Nevada about a month before so i mostly stayed in the room (with the before-mentioned beer).

i did watch a Pat Robertson hosted 4th of July special on the first Gulf War: Operation Celebration. that seemed to fit in with the Fallon vibe.

Dead hookers on the shoulder of US95 fit the Fallon vibe, too.

Place was kinda empty....wonder why....casinos, hotels, traffic, golf courses ( :D

Saw Jimmy Pardo at the Improv at Harvey's....good for some yuks....
