Uniforms: Please leave them the fuck alone

Post by GrizBearStare »

They are changing our uniforms again this year. This will be our 4th design in the last 11 years. Here is the new uni for '07 and it sucks. It doesn't appear to have any silver so it's not even going to match the damn helmets:

Image

The uni from '03-'06 (this style is universally loved and although I wasn't thrilled about them changing when they did it this time in '03, I was alright with this because I thought it was a great design and that it was going to be a permanent switch):

Image

The uni from '97-'03; we won our 2nd national championship in 2001. Kinda plain, but winning championships creates positive associations:

Image

The original from when we won our first chipper in 1995. Very ugly, but at least it was unique:

Will someone smarter than me explain to me the rationale for doing this? Is it just to sell another round of replica jerseys now that last year's model is obsolete?

that old MU logo is sweet with the double mustard color scheme.

you didn't get hosed that bad, i saw the new Colorado unis in the CU bookstore last week and they are awful.

they used to have such a clean, badass look. the new one's are awful. way to go Nike. Buff fan will say "not as bad as it could have been". fuck Nike.

Dan Hawkins is kind of a tool, i am starting to think. he better start winning some games.

To answer the question posed, it seems to me that uniform changes, at least today, are strictly marketing tools designed to sell as many replica new uniforms as possible.

[Bitter old man rant]Sports were better back in the day when most teams didn't change uniforms every year.[/Bitter old man ranit]

I agree with Terry. I am sure many people will buy the new Montana jersey. It doesn't look bad at all.

I have to say, despite the lack of silver, the new ones look a lot better than the 03-06 ones.

Kal got so used to pissing themselves, they incorporated urea in their latest design. Not exactly a shocking turn of events in Strawberry Canyon.

I think I can still see a hint of orange imprinted into the Urine Unis after they left Knoxville.

The great thing about buying a college jersey is if you get one with number that lots of great player have worn, the jersey never really becomes out-dated. Buy a Michigan #1 jersey...that'll always be a number for the best wide receiver on the team. Same can be said with Notre Dame #3 jersey...a common number for a QB, not every guy who wore it was great but it's a common number for the starting QB. Having a number of all-time great always makes the jersey trendy...I'm sure TexasFan will wear #10 jerseys for a long time.

As for the teams that always change their look...not many of them are considered powerhouses. Ohio State slightly changed their gear last year but it's not very noticeable. Certainly not like the Oregon unis from the past few years. Other than that, most of the top teams keep their look throughout the years. You might see slight changes in striping or number font but it's generally the same.

Eek...glad they changed from those.

i saw a pic of those. ATM switched to Adidas from Nike. they look pretty good, but i prefer the straight maroon and white.
