Sorry, that's not correct. There were part or all of 15 states formed by the purchase, but not 15 complete states. And stop using Wikipedia. :D

Those are all correct, but yeah there are more.

The way your question was asked 9. How many states were carved from the Louisiana Purchase? does not specify complete states, and further the "carved from" language indicates that partial states should be included in the total. 15 is the correct answer.

I guess we can argue semantics on this til the cows come home.

Either way, 13 is the number of complete states that were formed.
