Officers pursued one of the cars to the intersection of Nixon and Chateau streets. The suspects' vehicle intentionally struck the police car. The officers got out of the car and ordered the two occupants to get out of their car. The driver of the car accelerated toward one of the officers, who fired two shots at the driver, in an attempt to stop the car.
When the car came to a stop, officers found the driver had been shot in the face. {RACK!!!} The passenger was not injured, and was taken into police custody for questioning. The driver was taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
Richard declined to name which hospital, but said the driver was expected to recover. { SHITFUCKPISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!}

PSUFan - Any reflections on this incident, or are you just sharing a wild story from the mean streets of the North Side? I for one am perfectly satisfied with the guy being shot in the face by one of the cops. I may have given it to him before he charged me with his car.
But no seriously, if you run the first time, then assault the cops by ramming 'em, then commit attempted murder by trying to crush em, you're done for!

I am experiencing a rather childish glee in seeing things work the way that they should - ram a cop car, and get blasted in the face with hot lead.
It's almost as good as Cheney sticking his boy with birdshot...a real kneeslapper, that.

I used to live on Chestnut Street - right across the 16th street bridge. That part of town is known as "Deutschtown" - named for the German immigrants that used to inhabit that hood.the mean streets of the North Side?
Now, the neighborhood is known derisively as "Spring Gutter" - an apt epithet, IMO.
We used to frequent a bar that was right across the street from our house called The Star Lounge. It was dirt-fucking-cheap drinking...and you could hole up in there until you damn well wanted to leave. Denny, the proprietor, used to sell me shots of Jameson for $1.00.
The clientele of this shithole was literally the scum of the Earth. We would sometimes bring East-End hipster types into the bar, then laugh while they squirmed in their seats, fearfully taking things in.
Denny was a real story-teller. He told us a lot of tales, tall and otherwise. He told us for a long time about a patron of The Star named Gino - a member of the Pagans motorcycle gang.
When we first started staggering to and from the Star, Gino was just a name to us. Denny told us of his neighborhood exploits. At one point, Gino acted as a hit man, and killed a local guy who had some mean friends. They were able to pin a lesser charge on poor Gino, whom Denny described once as "meaner than a Polish stepmother". So, Gino was in the slammer when we started hanging at the Star...but after a while he was released, and we met him. Denny spoke kindly of us, so Gino left us alone.
Denny wallpapered the bar with liquor bottle labels that he soaked off and saved. The label paper was all over the entire bar - the labels were of the worst kind of rotgut, Banker's Club, etc.
During the brief periods he wasn't incarcerated, Gino's preferred cocktail was Nyquil - which he'd steal by the gallon from the nearby hospital, bring in to the Star, and pour over ice. One didn't gladly invoke Gino's wrath - the dude was really intimidating, despite the fact that he rarely spoke. One day, Gino felt his personal stamp wasn't really there in the Star...so he suggested that Denny soak off some Nyquil labels, and give his people Hope.
I always made sure to show the quaking hipsters the 25 or so Nyquil labels that had proliferated in one section of the wall decor - when Gino wasn't in attendance, that is.

Thinking about Denny has me remembering a few things.
Being a good Catholic Polack, Denny had sired a huge throng of well-intentioned mouthbreathers. A few of his daughters had made somethings of themselves, and the family maintained a relatively normal suburban-style style of living.
One of his daughters is a western PA news personality. Here is a 2002 article about a pipe-beatdown incident she suffered:

Well, I'll be goddamned - that has to suck.Berecky testified that another time during the assault, she grabbed the pipe. Bolam then "started kicking me in the chest," she said. He also pulled her hair to the point that "I heard it ripping out." At that point, "I said, I'm in trouble; he's into torture."
