Different text colors in Windows Explorer

Post by GrizBearStare »

When I am using Windows Explorer to look at the data files on C:, I just noticed that some of the file names have a different color. Whereas previously they all appeared in black letters kinda like this:

Now some (not all) of the files have a different color text, namely blue like this:

Any idea what could be causing this? It just happened tonight.

Blue means the file is compressed or encrypted. Right click on the file and choose properties, click on the Advanced button (bottom of window) and check/uncheck the compress function. Alternatively, you can go into your folder options in Explorer (windows not IE), go to Tools and bring up the folder options, Under the View tab you can enable or disable the different color feature for compressed files.
