The Genius...alas, we knew him well
No big surprise, as he'd been seriously ill for some time, but the passing of Bill Walsh should give us all cause to pour several ounces of imported beer...

Great coach, great mentor to many players and a solid, solid guy. He was an offensive innovator and had outstanding success with the Niners, but there's one problem... Seemingly very other team in the league created their own version of Walsh's dink-n-dunk, five yard pass play offense. It worked for the Niners because of players like Jerry Rice, Russ Francis, John Frank, John Taylor and others who could turn a five yard pass into a 15 yard gain. But all of these other teams try to employ Walsh's offense or their hybrid version of it, regardless of their personnel and it's painful to watch at times.
RACK Walsh, but a hearty Unrack to the copycats.

The day that other NFL teams quit trying to emulate models for success will be the day the NFL goes to shit. ALL teams do this to some degree, or at least attempt to. This isn't just applicable to the NFL. It happens in all business models. Some have success. Some don't.OCmike wrote:RACK Walsh, but a hearty Unrack to the copycats.

I followed a link someone posted about Walsh getting past tensed, and it led me to the Daily Californian site, a Berkley student rag.
Of course, they have a column about female ejaculation linked to on the side (and on the front page):

Diverse editorial approach, eh?

Indeed, Bill would have been basically a bookish 6-10 without Joe Montana. But it wasn't a fluke that he picked all those great players, either. His eye for talent may have been the factor that made him a true football genius. He was like a humorless Don Nelson. His imperious control and cold decisiveness were perhaps not as well known outside S.F. One of favorite incidents was the Niners' boggling acquisition of Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson, an experiment which lasted about two days as Hollywood was such a coke-hog that he was actually running out to his car during practice to free-base. An ounce a day, by his own admission. So, Walsh is waiting for him as he comes back to the practice field and...the laser look of scrutiny...gone.OCmike wrote: It worked for the Niners because of players like Jerry Rice, Russ Francis, John Frank, John Taylor and others

FTDC is on a roll. I checked the list and he did have both Tammy Faye and Bill Walsh. He also nailed their cause of death.
Tammy Faye...age 65. Cancer...100-65=35 plus bonus for 45 pts.
Bill Walsh........age 75. Leukemia...100-75=25 plus bonus for 35.
You easily lead with 80 points.
You are like "Oscar the cat" when it comes to predicting death.
