What Gaylord Perry did was not against the law. Not even sure if it had been outlawed by MLB at the time. Steroids are an illegal drug. Big difference......battery chucka' one wrote:Is there any difference between Barry's cheating and Gaylord Perry scuffing the baseball and throwing spitters? If you're concerned about them being illegal drugs, you're gonna have to roll in all the cocaine and pot users as well.
Line 'em up. THAT line is a long one.
Oh, and let's not forget about greenies. How many pro athletes used those to enhance their performances, give them more endurance and energy?

For you? Yeah - the fact that Barrah is a Giant - thus your defense of him.battery chucka' one wrote:Is there any difference between Barry's cheating and Gaylord Perry scuffing the baseball and throwing spitters? Well Mace I honestly see this a blight on baseball and not on Barry. I don't blame Barry for getting the record I lay the blame at that rat spineless bastage Bud Selig's feet. Barry did what a shit load of other players, black, white, brown, or between did, to continue to play at the same level as others were doing. Roids were not limited to hitters and it doesn't improve your hand eye coordination.Mace wrote:I think we were all a little naive and uninformed during the McGwire-Sosa HR race (probably because MLB was hyping the two in an attempt to revive the game) and think that McGwire skated because of it. Given his testimony in front of the Senate, I think he'd be receiving the same criticism as Bonds were he still playing the game and breaking records. McGwire's credibility is destroyed, IMO, and he will have a struggle making it to the HOF.....not that he won't evetually get in.SunCoastSooner wrote:I don't recognize him as the HR King, that is still Hank for me but I do respect what he has done. I believe they juiced the ball for a couple of years when everyones numbers went up exponentially but went back to the old form after people caught wind of it.Mace wrote:I agree with you on Selig and that Barry is not the only player juicin' up....and that it's not only the hitters. I'm no expert on the effects or steroids but I made reference to eye-hand coordination because I watched an interview on tv last week and the "expert" being interviewed made that claim.SunCoastSooner wrote: Well Mace I honestly see this a blight on baseball and not on Barry. Have they officially changed the specs for how tightly the ball is wound, or do you just suspect it? I know there were suspicions/allegations a few years ago when the HR stats increased, but I haven't heard much about it in the past few years. Even if it's true, they're all playing with the same ball. Not so for guys who choose to play by the rules and not 'roid up.The real reason I don't recognize him as the HR king has absolutly nothing to do with riods but with the juiced ball.
I don't care for Barry the person in the least I think he is a POS but I do have a great repect for his baseball abilty with or without the supplements.
Some players also change their game as they get older. When Barry was a young player he was big time believeer in old school baseball of "hit 'em where they ain't" base hit style of batter with great speed and base running ability. As you get older you ose a step normally. I think barry started focussing on hitting the long ball a lot more when he realized he was going to be able to continue to be a grinder on the field for the next 20 years. He was a good/great player before he juiced up (allegedly) but his power numbers for someone his age go against mother nature. I don't respect anyone who is using drugs to enhance their performance and gives them superhuman strength. MLB needs to implement a state of the art drug testing program and require testing of all players if they want to clean up the game, and they need to also implement some extremely harsh penalties for the violators.

There's nothing wrong with the game of baseball, SCS, not really.
