Honestly, the L2 cache wont matter much for most day to day apps. They're just about even.

who cares? On your desktop either will do above and beyond what you'll need in the next 3 or 4 years. Take either CPU, stick it on a semi-decent Intel or Asus mobo, stick 2gb of ram and a 256mb video card on there and it will play just about every game out there and then some.
These days its just not worth spending $2k and getting best of breed shit because you'll pay out the ass for something that will only marginally beat out something that cost $800.
