No, she wasn't.

Just as you aren't from The The United States of America.

Not sure why people have the strange obsession with putting the word "the" in front of that country's name. Ukrainians will correct you on this. Not as quickly as when you call them Russian, but they'll still correct you.
dins, not sure why nobody has caught this yet, but, your example of how we don't say "The The United States", gets the KYOA award (grammar smack division) for the week. Nowhere have I seen mike refer to that fucking country in eastern europe as the the ukraine.

nice job.

It's amusing at how irritated someone can get here about such trivial bullshit as posting styles or grammar.
Makes me all the more want to continue !!

There continues to be confusion over whether to use the article “the” in connection with “Ukraine.” In the briefs, Gutnik’s counsel uses “the Ukraine,” while the government uses “Ukraine.” Likewise, at joint remarks in January 2005, Vice President Cheney used “the Ukraine,” while President Yushchenko, the elected leader of the country, used “Ukraine.” See Press Release, Office of the Vice President, Vice President’s Remarks with Ukrainian President Yushchenko (Jan. 26, 2005) (Villa Decius, Krakow, Poland). We will use Ukraine, which is not only correct but is also preferred by Ukrainians themselves, see Associated Press, Terminology of Nationalism, N.Y. Times, Dec. 3, 1991, at A10, and is the grammatically consistent choice, see Andrew Gregorovich, Ukraine or “The Ukraine”?, FORUM Ukrainian Review No. 90, Spring/Summer 1994. {GUTNIK, ILYA P. v. GONZALES, ALBERT No. 053007p - 11/29/2006}

BTW Most Ukrainians would say "na Ukrain'e" which literally translates to "on Ukraine."

Any Questions?

In any event, saying "the Ukraine" is nowhere near the self-asskicking that is saying "THE Queens." Jack Lloyd (former PA announcer for ND's basketball games) did that every time he announced Gary Voce.

I can't vouch for the accuracy of this, since it's Wikipedia, but here's one possible explanation:
The Bronx" is the only borough in New York City that, in its capacity as a borough, is referred to, in both law[2] and popular usage[3], with the definite article ("The"). (The name of the coterminous "Bronx County," however, does not include a "the.") The best explanation for the definite article is that the original name of the borough, when it was annexed from Westchester, was "The Borough of the Bronx River," referring to the river that passed through the borough.[4][5]. The river was named after Jonas Bronck, a Swede, who was a sea captain and 1641 resident whose 500 acre (2 km²) farm between the Harlem River and the Bronx River or Aquahung, as it was called by the Native Americans of the time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bronx

Edit: After a little more researching, a similar explanation from a more credible source:
Unlike the other boroughs, The Bronx is always referred to as "The Bronx," never just "Bronx." This is because the borough took its name from a river - the Bronx River. Generally, the word "the" precedes the names of rivers and other bodies of water; hence, the borough is known as the "The Bronx."

Actually, every day WAS hot...but that's why we went to the pools and the beaches. Western NY weather has been unseasonably cool for a good chunk of the summer, so it was GREAT to go somewhere hot. Toss in the AC that worked perfectly in our rental unit, and the fact that it was near and over 100°F for much of the week was hardly a negative.

And it wasn't that bad at all crowd-wise. We walked pretty much everywhere we wanted to go, and the two times we had to drive (to get groceries...which sucked only because all supermarkets suck compared to Wegmans...) we had no problems with traffic.

And to top it all off, everyone we ran into was nice and eager to please. Good service at every store, bar, and restaurant. The only assholes we dealt with were drivers from PA and (especially) NJ on the way down and back.

I was invited to go on wireless the boat the landed the Blue but decided to spare my liver of 3 days out in the tourney and hit BJJ/MMA class.

I was so tempted to go when I got the call that overheaders were breaking on the south end of OC! I got a body board thats made for nasty washout days. Ended up in town while my ace dawg got skunked in the tourney "Hammer Time" nothingb other than a dolphin and a small white 40 pouds that was let go.

I knew 4 boats in the T the one that got ranked 3rd or 4th intrisic slammed into my boys Fountain sport fish at Pussers ub annapolis and totalted the boat! irony of it all was intrisic was winning the T until the last two days! Rack Karma!

Here's another idea, tard.

Move.

If a community allows itself -hell, PROMOTES ITSELF NATIONALLY- to become a tourist destination (which OC does, big time), then they can't intelligently bitch about TOURISTS actually showing up. You're following this perfectly, since your posts on the subject certainly do lack intelligence.

If you choose to live in a tourist mecca, you have to accept the good (the increased $$$ in your city coffers and businesses) with the bad. If you don't like the tourists....FUCKING MOVE.

Christ, but you are a moron. Do you have any idea how stupid you sound? Just because Risa being banned has created an "idiot vacuum" doesn't mean that you are obligated to actually FILL it.

You don't hear me ranting every year about how I hate college students, or the annual influx of overloaded U-Hauls, minivans, and SUVs that gum up traffic (and the supermarket) each mid-August as parents drop kids off, or how parking on Main Street is damned near impossible when the college kids are here...because my wife and I CHOSE TO LIVE IN A COLLEGE TOWN. If the aforementioned stuff was more than I could take, I would [now pay attention, you cranially-challenged specimen] MOVE TO ANOTHER PLACE.

If you insist on living in a major self-promoting tourist magnet and can't stand it but refuse to move out, there is another solution...it involves a vaporizer, equal parts ammonia and bleach, and deep frigging breaths on your part.
