That's not exactly going out on a limb... most sites list them as a 2/1, I've heard others where they are listed at 8/5. They are the prohibitive favorites to win the Super Bowl. I'm fairly certain there hasn't been a bigger pre-season favorite to win it all. Ever.

Shoalzie, I am very disappointed that you slated the Texans for a 3-13 season. I like you, but I just wanted you to know that you cut me deep, man.

NFC

East
Philadelphia 11-5 - strong up front, well coached
Dallas 10-6 - transition under Phillips is a ?
NY Giants 9-7 - it's time for Manning to step it up
Washington 6-10 - defense is simply not good enough

North
Chicago 11-5 - won't hit 13 W's again, but still best of this group
Detroit - 7-9 - offense may flash the scoreboard
Green Bay 7-9 - maybe in 5 yrs Brett can win it all again
Minnesota 3-13 - qb??? among the worst teams in the league

South
New Orleans 12-4 - pushing hard to make the big dance
Carolina 11-5 - defense is solid, bounce back year
Tampa Bay 6-10 - too many question marks, defense fallen off
Atlanta 4-12 - bad start to the Bernard Petrino era

West
St. Louis 9-7 - potent offense, defense just good enough
Seattle 8-8 - wildcard contender
San Francisco 6-10 - don't like their defense
Arizona 6-10 - how much can Lienart do .. they're the Tardinals

AFC

East
New England 11-5 - AFC's best team on paper
NY Jets 9-7 - a bit of smoke and mirrors last year
Buffalo 5-11 - rebuilding mode
Miami 4-12 - aging defense, ditto to rebuilding mode

North
Baltimore 11-5 - defense is hell on wheels, should be a playoff team
Cincinnati 10-6 - C. Palmer with another big year
Pittsburgh 7-9 - transition year, some struggles
Cleveland 6-10 - just another year or two, Q

South
Indianapolis 11-5 - don't care for their defense, still potent on offense
Jacksonville 9-7 - solid defense keeps them in games
Tennessee 8-8 - Fisher is still building this team
Houston 8-8 - definitely improved, still O-line concerns

West
San Diego 10-6 - Norv butchers this team, still playoff quality
Oakland 8-8 - Kiffin has the ball rolling the right direction
Denver 8-8 - transition year, Cutler is finding his way
Kansas City 5-11 - frightful offense, ought to be in full rebuild mode

The Lions have the benefit of playing in the worst division in football, and a fairly soft schedule.
If they stay healthy, I predict 8-8 - an improvement of 5 games over last season's 3-13

2 Sep 16 MIN @ DET - Win
3 Sep 23 DET @ PHI - Loss
4 Sep 30 CHI @ DET - Loss
5 Oct 07 DET @ WAS - Loss
6 Bye
7 Oct 21 TB @ DET - Win
8 Oct 28 DET @ CHI - Loss
9 Nov 04 DEN @ DET - Loss
10 Nov 11 DET @ ARI - Loss
11 Nov 18 NYG @ DET - Win
12 Nov 22 GB @ DET - Win
13 Dec 02 DET @ MIN - Win
14 Dec 09 DAL @ DET - Loss
15 Dec 16 DET @ SD - Loss
16 Dec 23 KC @ DET - Win

The Raiders will compete for the worst record again this year along with the Dolphins, Browns, Bucs, Falcons and Vikes.

They just IR'd Daniel Bullocks...the secondary becomes even thinner now. They've got two solid run-stoppers on the interior of the defensive the line (barring Shaun Rogers actually plays) but the linebackers are injury-prone and they lack a true middle linebacker and the secondary is undersized and not very talented. Teams will be able to throw the ball on them much like the Colts did in that preseason game this past Saturday. The Lions will score points and could be one of the highest scoring teams in the league but I see them also probably being one of the worst teams in the points allowed category as well.

That is all well and good you explaining Detroit's season, but what is the validity to your prediction of the Texans finishing 3-13.

I went through the entire NFL schedule and you ended up with only 3 wins...that's about it.

I'm probably being a little too harsh on your guys but I've probably got 12 teams with at least 10 wins and 10 teams with 5 or fewer wins...I'm willing to bet in those two groups I have teams I'm underrating and overrating. I feel most confident about that group in the middle. I think I hit 9 or 10 teams on the nose as far as their records are concerned last season...that means I'm dead wrong on at least 2/3 of the league. Your Texans are probably going to be in that group. Do you honestly care that much what a meat head like me thinks about your team?

No

And I especially dismiss you thoughts when you predict Irving to go to the Super Bowl right after they get owned in every area of the game by the team you predict to go 3-13.

But hey, it was just preseason right? The #1 squads being on the field most of the game was irrelevant. Even more irrelevant was the 'Pokes leaving their 1s in for 2 series longer than the 3-13 team and losing ground to the 3-13 teams #2s.

So yeah, very little to care about. Especially when you are too dumb to realize that YOUR team likely WILL be one of the most improved teams in the NFC if for no other reason than they very well might be able to score at will.

I love the smell of myopia in the late summer
