Very ill at home with pancreatic cancer. PC is a mofo. kills just about everybody that gets it. wonder what he weighs right about now?

His hard metallic tone was almost unbearable. Placido Domingo was really about three times as good. Once, a good while ago, when Pavarotti was in S.F., and had gone off on an unplanned excursion to Golden gate Park where he rode a horse, the worried SFO director finally located him and was assured by Luciano, "I'm fine," and the director asked..."How's the horse?"

I believe there was some kind of romance between Pavarotti and Deborah Voight. Deborah's sister is a very good friend of mine. I believe Pavarotti was married though and nothing ever came of it.

Opera, while boring to many, is about as tough a gig as there is.

you do have to give it up to opera singers. i've just listened to a few of those youtube clips. absolutely amazing what some fukkers can do with their voices. and how 'bout that snagle toothed englishman? jeebus christ, is their not one bloke on that miserable rock with a decent set of choppers? he doesn't have the power in his voice of pavarotti or any of the other great tenors, but, he ain't bad.

as for luciano being the greatest, there was some other guinea mentioned, that some claimed was better, somethingelli, was his name. I think he was a tad better than luciano. a bit deeper and smoover sounding.

RIP, you big fat bastard, you definitely were one of the best.

True. Nobody works harder at being boring than opera singers. The biggest problem opera has is that less than 1% of the world's population speaks Italian. Mix in some English and you might see some American love for opera.

I don’t think translating operas into English would greatly increase interest. It’s a form of entertainment that doesn’t draw much interest any more. But I am totally down with Big Daddy Wags. Loves me some Tannhäuser or Lohengrin.

When I was young I took singing lessons for a while, as I was singing 3-4 nights a week in blues and rock clubs and my voice was getting thrashed. The woman right before me was a soprano in some local opera company.

I absolutely hated listening to her. She didn't break any glass, but she came damn close to it.

A strong, rich, operatic voice is cool to hear, but some of those spinto or coloratura sopranos could compete with alley cats, imo.
