Didn't hear or see a second of the game because I was at a softball tourney. Job situation is in flux right now, so I may be away from the boards for awhile. Still here, just can't post as much.

When I get a chance, I will share my thoughts.

Yeah, hope everything gets worked out. Its no fun to make fun of a man when his team is down and he's got some job issues to work out. But really, I am interested to hear what your take is. Is this the team or Charlie's fault. Aren't these his guys now? I do take some enjoyment in seeing him fail but its almost too embarassing to poke fun at UM and ND when they are this bad.

I appreciate it. Things are looking up on the job front, but I'm not counting my chickes just yet.

Short answer is it's a perfect storm this year that starts and ends with Charlie. There are many other factors, but they shouldn't be this bad. The sophs and freshman are his, there is one "transition" class, and the others are Ty's.

From ESPN.com:

"The NCAA rankings are probably enough. When one sees that Notre Dame ranks dead last among 119 Division I-A schools in scoring (4.3 PPG), offensive touchdowns (0), rushing yards (-14), total offense (115.0 YPG) and sacks allowed (23), one can come to the conclusion that the Irish offense is, well, not so good."

Wow........what I don't understand is the collective insouciance displayed by ND fan. If this was Ty they would be calling for his head and screaming on here left and right. But it seems there's some type of acceptance(not of the losing) but the person doing it.

PSU fans have definitely been there. I can hardly believe that we won three fucking games in 2003.

Citing ESPN again? :meds:

Also, your comparison between Willingham and Weis is way off-base. I have a busy week ahead, but I'm going to try at some point to get in a longer post about my thoughts on the season so far, and I'll address the Willingham/Weis comparisons as well.

Again...they are STATS...get them from anywhere!!!! No one needs ESPN to tell NDfan they are dead LAST in almost every offensive category. Like since its ESPN, its wrong or slanted?

And how about forget TY:

Charlie Weis vs. Notre Dame legends
Coach Record in third season
Knute Rockne, 1920 9-0
Frank Leahy, 1943 9-1*
Ara Parseghian, 1966 9-0-1*
Dan Devine, 1977 11-1*
Lou Holtz, 1988 12-0*
Charlie Weis, 2007 0-3 and counting
* won AP national title

I'm certain MSU will be favored in the ND game next Saturday, and if so, will be the only time I've ever known that to happen. I think the only way MSU really loses this would be due to penalties and/or turnovers. However...as bad as ND is, this isn't a gimme. Because, well...this is Michigan State. They're just as capable of losing at home to Indiana by 21 as they are beating OSU at The Shoe. MSU is relying heavily on the run this year, and will attempt to run it down ND's throat all game long. I think State wins by 7-10 pts.

But considering how awful my picks have been this year, this might bode well for ND fan.

I'm pretty sure MSU was favored in '03. Probably in'99 as well.

we can thump our chests b/c we're undefeated with mallet starting, undefeated against teams that don't run the spread, undefeated against winless teams, undefeated against teams that haven't beaten us, and undefeated against the big ten. once we remove items one and five from that list next week we'll reach for our last straw, which is history, and since notre dame's the primary challenge in terms of wins and winning percentage, we'll hang our entire season's hat on shutout jesus.
