I'm a realist on the subject and don't think with the money involved you can hold a FF at a smaller venue anymore. I also think it is totally unrealistic to hold tourney games at super small arenas such as Cameron Indoor (which IIRC only holds about 9K). The other thing this article addresses and that I have a HUGE problem with is the on-campus gyms going away from traditional venues. I've been to the cable box at Maryland and it certainly is nice, but it lacks that "can't put your finger on it aura" that Cole had. Penn St built a much larger arena but lost all the mystique that their band box gym had. It looks like Oregon is going the same route but I'll left the U&L crowd speak to that. And I know there is a clamor by many within the IU fanbase for a new arena. When it comes to tourney games I'm okay with the modern trend but I'm an old school traditionalist when it comes to the on-campus gyms.
"Our staff is going to ensure that anyone who attends this University and wears the Indiana uniform will make this privilege among their highest priorities and not treat the opportunity as an entitlement,'' Crean said in a statement. "We fully expect our student-athletes to accept the responsibilities academically, athletically and socially that come with representing one of the top programs in college basketball history."
