The problem is that there isn't a fucking preseason. The offensive line finding their nuts was nice. Sullivan went down in the first half with a pulled labia.

Had that been GaTech, I wouldn't feel that bad. As it stands, John Latina, Jappy Oliver and Brian Polian need to be shit canned. And Weis needs to let Heywood call the game or hire an offensive coordinator who can call the game.

Some very bright spots in this game, way to many dark ones.

Killian, I agree. We definitely showed some improvement against Michigan State. That's the bright side. The down side is that when your best game of the season at this point by far was a 17-point loss to a team that's not exactly in the hunt for the national championship, that's not exactly promising. At least, not when you're Notre Dame.

Agree with you about Latina. I haven't yet focused on Oliver or Polian enough to form an opinion one way or the other.

As for Haywood, going to OC was a promotion and Weis brought him along slowly so that he didn't get in over his head. That was fine, particularly when Cutcliffe was originally brought in as QB coach. But we're now in Year Three. Haywood needs to be the OC, rather than a glorified running backs coach, or if Weis isn't comfortable with that idea, he needs to get somebody in that role with whom he is comfortable.

I'm rooting for Haywood to succeed, since [Zysdale]he was in my class at ND.[/Zysdale] However, to steal and paraphrase a line which a Drug Court coordinator once used as to one of my clients who flunked out of Drug Court, I don't like Haywood as much as I like ND. If he can't cut it at that level, it's time to get someone in there who can.

I can't believe we are having discussions like this about a perenial powerhouse such as ND. This is a school where fans, alum, and students should be outraged about what a shit program Weis is running over there, no? At least Davie and Willingham weren't this bad. This is pathetic.

When you factor in off the field issues, Davie and Willingham were worse. But Weis is putting a fielding a worse team than those two ever did.

Terry, take a look at the special teams play and the linebacking play. Polian should have been gone last year. Ditto Jappy. Rob Ianello should be on the chopping block as well.

Every ND fan, or at least every realistic ND fan, knew that this year would be a down year (although, in fairness, no one knew we'd be this far down). I think that is what has saved Weis from having ND's collective fanbase calling for his head. But unless he can turn things around fast, '08 is shaping up as a make or break year for him.

One of the few areas in which ND can claim college football superiority in the modern era is the fact that even when the program has been down, it's never been among the dregs of 1-A. ND has won at least 5 games in every season since 1964. I'll grant you that 5 wins in a season is nothing to write home about, but AFAIK, Nebraska is the only other program in 1-A that can make that claim. That streak is now in jeopardy, even with a relatively soft schedule in the month of November.

I probably shouldn't even post this, since it'll undoubtedly be fodder for someone, but . . .

Right now, our losing streak is at 6 games, dating back to last season. That's the second-longest losing streak in ND history. The longest is an 8-game losing streak in 1960.

Winning at least one of the next two would be nice. If nothing else, it would deprive Fredo of the opportunity to get the win that notches the longest-ever losing streak in ND history.

Why back down now......all I hear is that Ty's inability to recruit is the reason for this debacle. Just curious what tune you are singing.

Let me see if I've got this straight. In Trixie's world, anyone who isn't calling for Weis' head on a platter immediately is somehow blaming ND's current debacle on Ty? That about sum it up?

Wow, just wow. If that isn't the dumbest thing that's ever been posted in the history of the interwebs, it's definitely on the short list. And that's saying a lot.

I've been quite consistent in my approach to this season for quite some time. I expected a dropoff this season because we had lost a lot of talent due to graduation, and we had a weak senior class which, yes, was due to Ty's recruiting problems for that class. I'm no expert on recruiting but I remember Killian calling it at the time "a MAC-caliber class." And that was before a number of recruits for that class departed.

Having said that, I have said on several occasions that I never expected a dropoff to the level we see now. That's not entirely on Weis, IMHO every person directly connected with the ND program has to shoulder some of the blame for the way things are right now. But certainly some of the responsibility is on Weis, and the head coach ultimately has overall responsibility for the state of the program. However, your wet dreams to the contrary notwithstanding, ND can't fire Weis right now, as doing so would put them in breach of contract.

Under the circumstances, I'm willling to see if Weis can weather the storm, given that ND has no other option at the moment. But if some significant changes don't occur soon, next year looks to be a make-or-break season for him.

Dude, you're just baiting and trolling these guys at this point. And quite frankly, it's getting pretty fucking annoying. You keep mentioning this, but I have yet to read a single shred of anything from anyone that suggested Ty is 100% to blame. I've seen the ND fans from this board reference Ty, along with several other factors that explain why ND is down. Do you not comprehend the idea that there can be more than one reason ND is down?

Dude, many ND fans are blaming Willingham. If you use that excuse in week one or two why not the rest of the season?

Where are these fans? They aren't posting here. So why are you forming retorts for arguments that aren't being made here?

And "many" is a subjective number, considering how many ND "fans" are out there on the internet. Some are blaming him, most others are using his shitty recruiting as a factor as to why ND is sucking so bad, not why they suck.

Wait just a minute here.

We all know that there are plenty of other sites out there where we can talk about our team. I've always thought that at least one of the reason why people come to this particular site was so that they could talk about their team in at least a somewhat more levelheaded manner than the homerboards allow. And I know that there aren't many rules here, but I always thought that one of the unwritten rules here was that you don't use the homerboards as fodder against any of the posters here. And I always thought that everyone was in agreement that that was a good thing. If the homerboards become fodder here, then you'll have a sort of mutual assured destruction thing going on here in no time. Why, there's at least one or two threads which can be found within the first three pages of this board (maybe sooner than that, I haven't checked for them recently) that address this very topic.

So, now we have you attempting to use the ND homerboards against the ND fans here? :meds: Point to me exactly where Killian, Lax or myself (I haven't seen Legacy 5.5 in awhile) say anything about blaming this season on Ty. You can't. But by all means, continue to spin -- it's quite comical, really.

So does that mean that Zook should get the NC credit for FLA since Leak, Wynn, many of the defensive guys, etc were his recruits...that is how stupid these statements about Ty are...

come on...I agree these ND guys have presented many facts and facets of this argument and have done so in a pretty level headed manner...why you keep throwing TY out there is beyond me but whatever...
