What a nightmare it was to do the rankings this week. Some of the top 15 teams that lost are still top 15 teams in my eyes because they lost on the last play of the game. Florida isn't dead entirely if they get some help...meaning the other top contenders lose a game. I put the Gators as the best one loss team right now and a win over LSU this coming weekend will be big in getting them back in the chase for the glass football. No one in their right mind should have them above South Florida right now considering the Bulls have the win over Auburn. Oregon and Oklahoma also both belong in the top 15 in spite of their losses. Texas was a shaky top 10 team already and a bad loss at home rightfully kicks them out of the top tier of the nation's best. I keep West Virginia in my extra #16 slot because they lose while Pat White gets hurt and lost to a very good South Florida team in Tampa. The Bulls look even better now with that win over Auburn after they beat the Gators this weekend. Kentucky has quietly entered the top 10 but they haven't ran into the gauntlet of the SEC schedule...South Carolina, LSU and Florida the next three games. Woodson becomes a Heisman favorite if he can lead the 'Cats through that nutcracker of a stretch.

1. LSU (last week: 1)
2. USC (last week: 2)
3. California (last week: 5)
4. Wisconsin (last week: 9)
5. Ohio State (last week: 10)
6. Boston College (last week: 11)
7. Kentucky (last week: 14)
8. South Florida (last week: 15)
9. Florida (last week: 4)
10. South Carolina (last week: unranked)
11. Georgia (last week: unranked)
12. Oregon (last week: 7)
13. Virginia Tech (last week: unranked)
14. Oklahoma (last week: 3)
15. Missouri (last week: unranked)
(16. West Virginia - last week: 6)

Out of poll:
Texas (last week: 8)
Clemson (last week: 12)
Rutgers (last week: 13)
*Michigan State (last week: 16)

Yeah, they're 5-0 but you're putting them in the top 10 because of what they might do? Based on what they've done, they're a top 20 team at best. The third best team in the Big Ten behind Ohio State and Wisconsin is Michigan State in my opinion even with their loss and then I'd go with Illinois at 4 and Purdue at 5. Michigan is still an unknown and if they have to forfeit the Penn State game, that hurts their conference title hopes.

The Big Ten is weak....very weak this year.

You could make a case for any of those teams.

The fact you beat Illinois and the fact they're looking better as the year goes on benefits the Tigers.

Good point. With any luck at all, Florida could finish fourth if they were in the Big 10.

I don't know how Oregon can fall in any rankings. They lost essentially on the last play of the game to the #3 team, and 5 teams ahead of them lost.

They also lost at home, in one of the toughest environments for opponents to win in CF. I see ya workin' though. They should still probably be in the top 10, imo. The real test will come Oct. 27.

Btw, does anyone know the potential Pac 10 outcome if Oregon were to beat USC and USC were to beat Cal? Assuming, of course all three win the rest of their games. Who's the conference champ in that scenario?

Tri-champs? I forget the way it's determined who goes to the Rose Bowl in case of ties.

Although USC is now rightfully #2 in the latest poll, they really played a bad game. One thing is for sure... John David Booty was never on my Heisman watch. Just because the prior two got it doesn't mean he should.

Too many good RB's out there this year.

UF would roll through the Weak 11 this year.....I don't think any big ten fans will dispute the claim that their conference is weak this year.

I would love to hear your arguement otherwise.

Let me guess now that Auburn won they are contenders right...

the same Auburn team that struggled at home with KSU and got immense help from the officials, lost to USF, and didn't they lose to Miss State???

Look UF is a good team...just young on D...offensively I think they are one of the best...they got a lot of young talent on D...that Major Wright is going to be a player (fucker chose UF over tOSU)...

I would like to see a UF v tOSU rematch...

We’ll see if the SEC can do better that 33% this year against the Big 10 in the bowl games.

I am going to abstain from voting this week. The college football landscape is a quagmire for me right now.

I think a number of the teams that lost Saturday are still amongst the very best in the country (i.e. Oklahoma, Florida, and West Virginia)

I also think that there are some undefeated teams that are not (i.e. Wisconsin and Cal.)

Is he wrong? There is no doubt that the SEC won the most important game, but you can't argue that they fared well against the Big 10

Don't worry, I should have some new material the first week in January. Until then, I’ll stick with recent history. 2-1.

Yeah.....and the SEC has FIVE in the top 12....what's your point? I'll ask again.....outside of a 2-1 record LAST YEAR do you feel that the Big 11 was better than the SEC overall. This year?

what's your point?
Uhh, I thought it was pretty clear. Considering how weak the Big 10 is, having two teams in the top 5 ain't bad.

Anyway, you have to understand that when somebody simply defends their conference, they aren't necessarily implying it's better than the SEC, etc.

I never thought that was the debate here, but you seem to suck VERY badly at reading.

Wurd. Just think how lame last Saturday would've been if there was a 16-team playoff awaiting the end of the season. Terry?
