rumor is Jocketty will be the Yankee GM.
no way Larussa would follow him there, larussa cried about the st.louis media being hard on him, they give free passes in the media, the ny media would rape him daily.
who will be next manager?

I know that, Mikey. Just starting my annual Steinbrenner rant a few weeks early this year.
Although, I can't figure out why he wouldn't consider selling the team. He's got to know that the Yankee fans hate him. And given the increase in value the franchise has had since he bought it notwithstanding his mismanagement of it, he gets over as well.
He's also 78 years old, IIRC, and has to realize that he won't be around forever. The estate tax on the Yankees would have to be a bitch.

The next manager will probably be Girardi. I think guys like Moose, Clemens, Giambi, among a few others will be gone next year. I'd clean out that bullpen and find some decent middle relief. Rivera is on his last legs so does the new closer become Chamberlain and move Mo to the set up role? Their young pitchers have done well but they'll be VERY young next year with Kennedy, Hughes, Wang, and Java. Way too many questions for this team. I think they have a shot at winning this series but they'll go down to Beantown in 5 or 6.

Lax,
I agree that Girardi will probably be the next manager if Torre is canned. I think it would be nice to get rid of Giambi, but he still has one year left on his contract plus an option for '09 that won't be picked up. I don't think the Yankees can afford to release him and take the chance of eating his entire contract for next season, what with Pettite, Posada and A-Rod all free agents and an option year coming up for Abreu.
Joba is supposed to move into the rotation next season, so I'm not sure what they'll do for the bullpen. I think you could squeeze a little more mileage out of Rivera with the right set-up people.
Getting to the World Series will be difficult, but then again, most of this board had this team's postseason chances written off in April or May.

Lax is closer to my way of thinking. Joba would be devastating as a closer with that fastball and curve. The gnats called the mental makeup into question though.

pfffttt.
this is steinbrenner, we're talking about. the guy that gave an old fat guy about a million dollars an inning to play this year.
no amount of stupid economic moves can step to the yankee cash machine.
they'll waive him, like the sox did to manny a few years back. when nobody picks him up, he'll have a spot mostly keeping the bench warm, but, they'll keep him around.

yeah, I am. believe ti or not, I grew up a yankme fans, but, following the strike I pretty much just decided that MLB pretty much sucked in general and didn't really give a shit one way or another. And since george was the posterboy for everything that is wrong with baseball, I decided that I rooting for his team made me feel kinda dirty.
Atleast I came over to RSN before they won in 04, so I'm not just a blatant bandwagoneer like Jizzo.
Ofcourse the Red Sox are pretty much yankee lite when it comes to how they run the operation, so my alliegiance to them isn't as strong as the typical sux fan. Infact, seeing an organization like the tribe win it all wouldn't bother me a bit. They don't/can't spend like the yanksox can and they have as loyal and as long suffering a fan base as anybody except the cubbies. nobody can step to cubfan when it comes to Job (the bible dude) like levels of suffering.
So, I will root for the sux, but, if the tribe gets over, good for them. Just so long as Steinbrenner is pissed. That matters more than anything.
Tell me that you and the rest of yankme nation wouldn't smile if that fukker cashed it in tomorrow.
If george has a fatal heart attack as he is announcing the shitcanning of torre, I will abandon my agnostic tendencies and go to church this weekend.
Here that G? Kill that fukker and you'll have one more believer.

I try never to wish that on anyone. But on the other hand, I would shed no tears if it happened.smackaholic wrote:Tell me that you and the rest of yankme nation wouldn't smile if that fukker cashed it in tomorrow.
I certainly hope Steinbrenner reconsiders. This was perhaps Torre's best managing job ever, given how many people had written this team off so early. And Torre has earned the right to leave on his own terms. Moreover, and perhaps even more importantly, he could have something close to a full-scale mutiny on his hands if he fires Torre.
All of that being said, I'm old enough to remember the day when Steinbrenner changed managers more frequently than some of the posters in here change their underwear. So I'm not exactly holding my breath on this one.
Good to see you coming correct on Steinbrenner. Most Yankee haytas, for some reason, think most Yankee fans kiss the guy's ass. Seinfeld spending three seasons mocking the guy should've told you differently.

While I agree with you on Torre, you have absolutely got to be kidding here. Right?Toddowen wrote:A-Rod has to go and I don't care where. I think he has been the major contributing factor to the decline of the Yankees since he coming here. He's the one whose job should have been made public as "being on the line". IMO, he failed once again.
Did you pay any attention to this season at all, Todd? Long story short, the Yankees don't even come close to sniffing the playoffs without A-Rod. It hurts me to type that, but it happens to be the truth. After this season, A-Rod will have won the MVP two of his four seasons with the Yankees.
A-Rod is hands down the best everyday player in the game, and with the possible exception of Jeter, he means as much to the Yankees as any other player in that clubhouse right now. To let him go would be a colossal mistake, on par with firing Torre.
The guy who needs to go is Giambi. I was talking this over with another lawyer in my firm who's a Yankee fan, and he suggested just outright releasing Giambi. Makes sense, the more I think about it.
I don't think Giambi will sit around and merely collect a check from the Yankees. His career is over for all intensive purposes if he doesn't hook on somewhere next year, and he knows it. Meanwhile, if the Yankees keep both Abreu and Damon (both of whom give them more at this point than Giambi), then there's no place for Giambi in the lineup unless you keep him at 1B.
The Yankees cut Giambi (who doesn't figure in their long-term plans anyway) loose one year early, he signs with another team, that team picks him up for relatively bargain basement rates ($1-2 million), and that saves the Yankees enough in salary to re-sign Mientkiewicz, who is hardly an automatic out and is a much better fielder at 1B than Giambi. Win-win-win, all around.

Didn't say I was satisfied with making the playoffs. Only pointing out that this season would've been far worse without him. Are you really this stupid?rozy wrote:Hey, dumbass. Uhhh, Brosius isn't available right now. Nor is the fact that the Yankees have failed to win the World Series entirely on A-Rod, at least not for anybody with two functioning brain cells. Uhhh, no. Jeter is the heart and soul of the team, no doubt, and it's an emotional thing. I accounted for this in saying that Jeter means more to the Yankees than does A-Rod. A-Rod has been with the team for four seasons, Jeter has been with them for 13 (or part of 13 seasons). Are you really this stupid?Handsdown best in the game but not as much as Jeter? They have enough bats around Mientkiewicz that they don't need huge offensive numbers out of him. But Mientkiewicz won't cost you many games over the course of a season with his glove. Giambi will, unfortunately.Hey, dumbass. I'll leave Dinsdale's retort to this stupidity to stand on its' own. You seriously need a cerebral lobotomy. The guy who needs to go is Giambi. Win-win-win, all around.
Nor was I suggesting that the career totals for Giambi and Mientkiewicz are comparable. But Giambi is well into the back nine of his career. This year's numbers tell a different story.
Giambi: .236 BA, 14 HR's, 39 RBI's in 254 AB's. 1 HR per 18.14 AB's, 1 RBI per 6.51 AB's.
Mientkiewicz: .277 BA, 5 HR's, 24 RBI's in 166 AB's. 1 HR per 33.2 AB's, 1 RBI per 6.92 AB's.
The only significant advantage Giambi had over Mientkiewicz, this season was in HR's. And this team led the league in HR's, without either one of them being a significant source of that home run production. Giambi's offensive advantage over Mientkiewicz, at this point in his career, is minimal at best relative to the needs of the Yankees.
There's also the little fact that Giambi makes about $9 mil more per season than does Mientkiewicz. That's $9 mil that could be spent on improving the team in other areas, after next season, anyway. And there's also the steroid issue, you remember that, don't you? (Dinsdale defending an admitted 'roider -- friggin' ponderous.) Are you really this stupid?
Red Sox fan, of all people, passing judgment about who deserves to stand in the Yankees' infield? If I were to spend the rest of my life typing I couldn't post enough to do this justice.Oh, and Arod doesn't deserve to stand on the same infield as Jeter. He's a disgrace.

Any statements about cutting anybody to "make room" for anybody is the stupidest thing I've read in awhile when referencing the yanks.
Who the fukk did they get rid of to "make room" to pay Roger a few hundred grand per inning?
I'll tell ya who. No fukking body!!! That's who. George just saw that he was fukked in the pitching department and knew that he could rent that tired old whore for the season.
It was proof that george pretty much doesn't fukking care what it costs. He gets a hair up his ass to sign somebody and it's a done deal. "Room making" don't enter into the conversastion.
Room making does occur. See the NFL forum across the way to find out about it.

If A-Rod does leave...which is very likely...who do you replace him with? After Rodriguez and Lowell, there is pretty much no one on the same planet as those two. Do you want replace 54 home runs and 156 RBI with someone like Pedro Feliz or Geoff Blum? Granted, there's plenty of production in other positions on the Yankees but you can't just shrug off A-Rod leaving and say things will be better. He's not the main reason they lost to the Indians. Your 19-game winner shit the bed twice...that's one big reason.

who's the fukking tool that wrote this? His "hands on approach" might be credited with the first 2 in the 70s, but it was an abyssmal failure over the following 15 years. Not till MLB threw his meddling ass out, did the team recover. And they did it the old fashioned way, largely with homegrown talent. His hands-on approach to running the team, while often controversial, was undoubtedly successful, and he has brought 10 division pennants and six World Series titles to the Bronx while building the franchise into an empire valued at $1.2 billion.
