It was a total fluke. I don't understand how a team with eighty-five future NFL draft picks could lose to a team that may send one or two guys to the CFL. Again, total fluke. Total sports mystery. Happens from time to time. Won't happen again.

P.S. Iowa will beat Penn State next week. Guaranteed.

JON's team sucks, their sched is weak, lame noncon while avoiding tOSU and Mich in-con. Yet they are still struggling to be a .500 team.
Ferentz is giving Weise a run-for-his-money in the not earning your check department. What happened to this program? They are battling NW for the bottom of the con totem-pole.

Danimal,
I wish I had a good answer to your question but I don't. I believe there are some internal issues going on between players and coaches right now. Yeah, we've been hit harder with more injuries to key players than any team in the country and then throw in some key suspensions and guys flunking out, but that still is no excuse for losing to ISU and getting absolutely drilled by a mediocre Indiana team. We are now 11-12 in the last 23 games and that includes 2 losses to Northwestern, 2 losses to Indiana, and a loss to Iowa State. The biggest problem right now is not Ferentz. He is a great coach. His problem is he needs to go in a different direction with his coordinators. We have become predictable and our gameplans are just flat out stupid. Oh sure, it worked from 2002-2004 and somewhat in 2005, but teams have caught onto our system and changes need to be made. We've got to tweak things a little but this coaching staff absolutely refuses to. We don't have Dallas Clark, Eric Steinbach, Bob Sanders, Matt Roth, etc on this team. We have talent, but not what we had before and we just don't have guys that fit into this system.
Here's a prime example of why Ken O'Keefe (or should we say Ken No O'Keefe) is a terrible OC...
We have 2 very good senior RB's. We have only 4 scholarship WR's available and all of them are freshmen. Our QB is a sophomore making his 5th start. Our QB has a lot of trouble handling any bit of pressure right now. Indiana enters the game 3rd in the nation defensively in sacks. So a struggling passing game going up against a defense that puts pressure on the QB. But we do have 2 very good RB's in the backfield and Indiana just gave up 300 yards on the ground the previous week.
What do you think should be our offensive gameplan?
You're right, we should probably run the ball, run the ball, run the ball some more, and then run the ball some more. Make them stop the run, right? Anyone with half a brain knows this. But what do we do? Throw, throw, and throw some more. Nevermind the fact that when we were running the ball we were busting up big holes and getting big gains. So you're probably thinking to yourself "why not keep running the ball until they stop it and then use that to set up the playaction pass?" Well, that's not what we did. Instead, we kept having Christensen drop back to pass and take a sack or make a bad throw.
Now, anyone that knows anything about football is probably thinking to themselves "holy fuck, your OC is a dumbass." Yeah, can't disagree with that. But really, he topped that in stupidity on Saturday.
Here's another great example of KOK's brilliance....
So finally he starts to run the ball. We're down 21-7 early in the 2nd half but are driving thanks to nothing but running plays. Probably averaged 7 YPC on that drive. We get to the 8 yardline. Indiana had shown no ability to stop the run and we had shown no ability to throw the ball effectively. So what would you do? Run the ball would be a good option, but if you're going to pass I'd probably use a playaction. It would be a good time. They'd probably be expecting a run, so a playaction should be open. Well, what would you think about going with an empty backfield on 1st down and throwing the ball even though you only have 4 scholarship WR's available and your QB had already been sacked 6 times in the game? That's what we did. Then threw the ball on 2nd down and 3rd down. Ended up missing a chip shot field goal and got no points.
Ferentz has got to make some changes. He isn't the problem, his coordinators are. Ferentz is a great coach, but you have to have good coaches around you and right now he does not. Our coaching staff does not understand how to gameplan and even though we were successful in the past with these coaches that does not mean we'll always be successful with them. Our schemes are predictable and uncreative and teams have caught on. Until we learn that changes need to be made and we need to tweak some things, there will continue to be days like that.

Half of being a HC is just putting the right staff together and fascilitating them doing their jobs.
If Ferentz's staff isn't getting it done he hast to cut them the fuck loose. Solich may still be at Nebraska or have retired from there if he went against Osborne earlier and made the necessary staff-changes before we went down-hill.

I agree. You're only as good as your assistants. But Ferentz would be doing a much better job if he had better assistants and not ones that have lost their step and can't adjust to the changing game. Yeah, he needs to cut ties with some coaches but I doubt he will because he is so damn loyal to not only his coaches, but his players. If you're named a coach at Iowa under Ferentz, you're there for life. If you're named a starter at Iowa under Ferentz, you'll always be a starter regardless of performance unless you get injured.

Myopics on the 'sker homer-boards keep going-on about how folks wanted to fire Charlie McBride back in the day but he turned out to be good so firing Cosgrove would be a bad idea.
1. Charlie's D got drilled earlier in his tenure but those drillings came at the hands of big-time offenses, not Ball State.
2. I didn't hear those folks complaining when we got rid of Bohl and Pelini came in with a much superior defense. Bohl didn't deserve firing any more than Cosgrove. Why does Cosgrove deserve benefit of doubt Bohl didn't? Because Coz had a couple good D's back in the middle of his Wiscy era? That was long ago.
3. Sometimes change is just needed. In '02 we had way too much dead-wood in terms of coaching, recruiting, and S&C. Unfortunately for Solich he didn't recognize this need and/or wasn't willing to go against Osborne til we'd already gone down-hill and the new AD was looking for an excuse to can him. Of course now that the new AD has pinned his career on Callahan patience is in abundance.

Cosgrove. I cannot begin to tell you how grateful Wisconsin fans are for you having taken that clown off of our hands.

Minorthreat,
Keep telling yourself that and maybe one day you'll actually believe it. Fucking retard!
I've said this 6 million times and I'll say it 1 more time....
IOWA STATE WILL NEVER COME EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO IOWA IN TERMS OF PROGRAM STATURE. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A 10 YEAR PERIOD IN WHICH YOU HAVE MORE THAN 1 SEASON WHERE YOUR TEAM HAD A MORE SUCCESSFUL YEAR. YOU HAVE AN INEXPERIENCED HEAD COACH THAT HAS NOT RECRUITED ONE MOTHER FUCKING DECENT PROSPECT AND UNTIL HE STARTS LANDING SOME GOOD PROSPECTS PLEASE SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTHS UP ABOUT HOW GREAT YOU'RE GOING TO BECOME. BACK IN 1999-2000 THIS IS WHAT I HEARD FROM CLONE FANS ABOUT HOW IT'S NOT A CYCLONE STATE AND HOW YOU'RE ON THE RISE AND WE'RE FINISHED. THEN WE RACKED UP 3 STRAIGHT TOP 10 FINISHES AND YOU WENT BACK TO THE SHITTER. YOU DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO COMPETE. YOU DON'T HAVE THE FACILITIES. YOU DON'T HAVE THE TRADITION. YOU'LL NEVER WIN. BRINGING IN SOME GUY THAT COACHED AT TEXAS ISN'T GOING TO CHANGE MUCH BECAUSE HE'S FUCKING RECRUITING TO IOWA STATE YOU STUPID WORTHLESS PIECE OF FUCKING DOGSHIT. THE ONLY DECENT TEAM YOU WILL EVER BEAT IS IOWA AND THAT IS BECAUSE YOUR PLAYERS HAVE PENIS ENVY OF THE HAWKS BECAUSE WE WOULDN'T RECRUIT THEIR SORRY ASSES. ONE FUCKING GAME A YEAR DOES NOT MAKE A PROGRAM, TWATLIPS. YOU CAN HAVE THAT FUCKING GAY ASS CY-HAWK TROPHY. IT LOOKS STUPID IN OUR TROPHY CASE ANYWAYS.
Ummm......out!

Bwahhhh!!!!
This is fucking priceless, Jon. When you get a chance, go ahead and start a thread about how bad Indiana sucks even though they beat Iowa two years in a row. Why not, you're on a fucking roll.

buwhahahaha at Iowa
talented Rb jason Ford is looking elsewhere, with Illini set to be new leaders. ford is a very good unerrated rb out of southern illinois, 15minutes from st.louis, he goes to school at althoff.
he a coup for Iowa, now he might be a steal for Zookie!
the hits keep coming
and now we realize why Pinkel backed off Iowa game, he wanted someone more competitive, like Western Michigan

Zook can definitely recruit, may have learned from his Florida-shortcomings and become a better coach as-well(coaches can learn from their mistakes like anyone else). The Illini are looking-up.
Right now Iowa has to sell the "you can play right-away" line to recruits. Of course those recruits with some sense would wait to see what hires/fires are made in the poststeason to buy-in at Iowa City. If Ferentz trashes the dead-wood and makes some good hires he could kick-up some interest down the recruiting homestretch.
Neb has been kicking serioius ass in recruiting but will see decommits if we don't start playing better. Our record isn't so bad but three of our four wins were scabdicks and our losses were ugly. Kids are dumb and will buy shmoozing but the opposition will definitely get in their ear about how this program isn't progressing, and could be backsliding. BC will have to make swift and good staffing-moves, not just shmooze, in order to keep these kids committed. I doubt we come out of this without losing a couple studs, more if the bottom drop-out on the season. Neb has come-back from ugly losses before, see the '05 Kansas game, and played solidly. We can finish with a respectable record, but we may have an utter meltdown. If that happens then BC and Pedey better be gone.
