RACK Navy
Nice win in double-OT over Pitt.
Unrack Wannstadt for not kicking the fieldgoal and sending it into another OT. Plus Pitt made a shit-call to win it all-a fade to the corner of the endzone, tough pass to ride the game on. Yet more proof our AD was moronic to want Wannstadt-dude can't handle a team with mainly 1AA-level talent.
I like watching Navy, don't get to see the traditional option-game much anymore.

I'll second about all of those points. Wannstadt certainly should have gone for the FG, he was at home, he had the momentum, but props to Navy. They played a great game and never gave up to a team that severely outsized them. How much longer till Pitt fires Wannstadt? I would love to see Mark May come back, put his money where his mouth is, and try to coach this team.
And that was a great point about Navy's rushing attack. I think I have been jaded because I flipped it on and expected to be bored when Navy had the ball. But you know what, they really did a lot of creative things out of similar formations.

I like Paul Johnson, he'd be on my list of wannbes for sure. He's been successful everywhere he's been.Danimal wrote:Nice win in double-OT over Pitt.

He made Georgia Southern a power house in 1-AA winning 2 N.C. and while playing in 3 from 1997-2000.
He also was Hawaii's O-coordinator so he is no one trick pony with the option.
He'll get a BCS gig one day soon, I for one would like that guy on our sideline.

I love watching Navy play. Last pure option team left in major D1A football.

Strange move by Wannstadt considering on the next series he would've been forced to go for it anyway. But I don't think it was a horrible decision considering Pitt scored the ball at will, and couldn't stop Navy. Giving Navy 35 yards to work with was pretty much an automatic TD. Definitely a bad play call though. I don't get why some coaches look to such a low percentage play to try and win a game.

Wanny has certainly sunk that program. It was stagnating under Walt Harris, but Wanny should be improving in his 3rd year. not regressing in this manner. They are 2-4 (0-1) and have yet to play Cincinnati, Louisville, Rutgers, USF and WVU. It might be a long year for Pitt.
Dreams......Temporary Madness
I disagreed with the decision to go for it because Pitt was not in the situation Boise was in in the bowl where they were outgunned and almost out of ammo. I'd say that move was quite questionable but was not a killer. What made it definitely a bad call was the difficult play they decided to ride the game on. Why not roll your qb out giving him a pass-or-run option?
Johnson is a quality coach. Unfortunately for him Navy being option-based scares suitors away. But he is running a system that gets the most out of the athletes made available to him. I'd bet dollars-to-donuts he'd augment his offense if he had BCS-conference-level talent to work with. I think somebody should give him an opportunity.
