Ya know Jay, had UO not just done WSU like that I might feel sufficiently smackworthy to remind you that had it not been for "The Touchback" that struggling USC team at Autzen is all that would be between the Ducks and THE game. But you've got major scoreboard this week so I won't.

It's no mystery that Oregon's cheerleaders have been at the top of the conference for years. Unfortunately, it looks like SAT's now play a role in who gets to be a cheerleader at USC. Too bad the D cup is no longer a requirement.

In fact, the Oregon women in general who travel to our game at the Coliseum are hotter.

I seem to remember Oregon's Cheerleaders (one of which was the Sports Illustrated Cheerleader of the Week last week) won a national poll after the Bowls as the "hottest cheerleaders."

While I'm proud that the team I root for has captured the nation's #1 ranking (not undisputed by any means), it's not without mixed emotion -- ever since my gonads first started pumping out major testosterone some 30 years ago, I always figured the sidelines at the Colesium held the greatest collection of hotties on the face of the earth on any given Saturday.


Fuck, if this trend continues, it might be time to make cheerleading scholarships part of the Tile 9 requirements, a move that would surely benefit USC.

Hell, up until immediately before the season, it looked like Dennis Dixon was going to be a clipboard-jockey, and the defensive front 7 were going to be custom fitted for uniforms not by Nike, but by Playtex.

And much to my suprise, DD is the starter.

Jury's still out on the Front 7.

Some quick Pac-10 thoughts that I may or may not hold myself to by the start of the season . . .


Brady Leaf will beat out Dennis Dixon for the starting job at QB and then lead Oregon to the Pac-10 championship.

The loss of Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith will hurt John David Booty more than the pundits are stating. USC will lose twice in conference play.

Alex Brink will throw for over 3500 yards and is MVP of his 7-5 Wazzu team's bottom tier bowl, thereby saving Bill Doba his job.

Once again Cal will be pretty good. Once again they won't win the Pac-10.

UCLA will not live up to expectations and KD will be canned at season's end.

Honestly, as Pac-10 fans, its foolish to dismiss a returning senior QB, no matter how bad he's been in the past. We've seen it repeated so many times over and over that a guy who struggled comes in and plays lights out as a senior. All in all, its a rarity that a returning senior QB plays poorly in this conference.

Kellen Clemens, Kyle Boller, Carson Palmer, Matt Moore, Derek Anderson, Drew Olsen, now Dennis Dixon in the last few years alone, and I'm probably leaving out some.

Even after the latter part of last season, I didn't doubt Dennis' abilities -- it was the falling-out with Bellotti over the baseball deal that had me thinking Ryan's Polar Opposite would be the starter. Didn't take long to realize that either Dennis and Bellotti buried the hatchet and swept the "controversy" under the rug, or much more likely, it was overblown.

And without checking any stats, I don't remember Derek Anderson really struggling for any sustained period in his career (although I try to forget the careers of those guys as quickly as possible, just as I try to make a point to never remember the name of any starting Fusky... heck, I've already forgotten UDub's starting senior RB's name, and I just saw them saturday).


But agreed, a senior QB is always a force to be considered, it seems like maybe even moreso in the PAC, with the types of offenses typically employed.

We went 5-6 when Clemens was a junior.

Derek Anderson threw 24 interceptions as a junior and completed onl 51% of his passes.

Neither of them did enough to get benched their junior years like Dixon did, though that may have been more of a result of not having a capable backup, but I'd call those failures.

I thin that both the Oregonian and Register Guard were all over the Dixon-Bellotti alleged baseball feud because of both individuals' collapse and underachievement last season. I admit, I bought in to the drama.
