So Watson opines casually to a reporter and sets off a firestorm of sorts. No big deal. It's not as if there is any lack of scientific data from the anthropological research that one might sift through. I think one of the real reasons that grants wouldn't be written would be this: what exactly is being studied? That Blacks are not as Intelligent as Whites? That's impossibly broad.

I think there is a lot of anthropological data that suggests that different societies engender different intelligences. Eskimos are smarter than you and I about snow, Bushmen are smarter about surviving in desert conditions.

It sounds to me like Watson's comments about "dealing with black employees" are a little incendiary. I generally agree that there are many different "intelligences" that fall along cultural lines, but I think he's addressing something different altogether - our societal inclination to support job candidates according to their skin color rather than solely on their job-related ability. That means that many folks get hired because they are black, not because they are the best candidates available. That doesn't state anything worth considering about the intelligence of a "race" overall.

One could look at the different arcs of development between post colonial African countries and post colonial Asian countries. Of course even then, weeding out other causal factors and quantifying data would require a lifetime and then some.

I've got news for you - most people are stupid. I find it odd that you would argue that is is a genetic failing, rather than a motivational one that makes Africans stupid. I personally agree, though, that many folks who would have been Darwined out of non-physical societal roles have been supported by political correctness. How "intelligent" was it to allow that to occur?

Really, I'm questioning the motivations of Wagner, who states that anyone who works with black employees would have to admit that Africans as a race have a diminished capacity for intelligence. It doesn't seem to be as simple as that. Again, how well would Wagner survive in the Kalahari? There are different sorts of intelligence.

One problem with fidning any correlation between the statements of having "black employees" here and intellegence being tied into "African genes" would be the fact that African immigrants actually have surpassed American blacks in education and testing.

Perhaps the lack of intellegence among American blacks, percieved or real, has come as a result of all the southerner blood in their gene pools, from back when a man could break his son's cherry with a submissive slave-girl.

That isn't what Watson is suggesting at all. What he is suggesting is that within the next decade, geneticists be able to identify a portion of the human genome that is responsible for intelligence, just like they recently did with respect to speech and language (the FOXP2 gene, which is mentioned in the second article I linked above). Once the geneticists identify the gene sequence (or several sequences) that are responsible for determining intelligence, they can take samples of DNA from a large number of humans that evolved in one geographically isolated location and compare the "intelligence gene sequence" portion thereof with the "intelligence gene sequence"portion of DNA from a large number of humans that evolved in another geographically isolated location. If there are differences between the base pairs, then the geneticists would attempt to develop testing protocols to determin whether these differences lead to one population exhibiting greater intelligence than the other. There are many testing protocols that can be used to determine intelligence, including some protocols that can be used to test illiterate populations.

The scientists won't evaluate the cause and effect of colonialism on such populations. The will be looking for a correlation between differing base pairs and intelligence.

to evolve in a cold shithole like europe or much of asia requires a certain type of intelligence. being able to build shelters and get groups of folks to work together helped get them through the winter.

evolving on the african plains required the ability to hunt or the ability to knock some other hunter over the head and take his shit. these more physical skills explain sports dominance among blacks today.

quite often you will see blacks run away from the supposition that they are more gifted physically and I think it is because it supports the arguement that whites/asians are more gifted at developing law abiding societies.

As to the claim that africans immigrants tend to be brighter than african americans, I think it is definitely so. I see it at work every day. We have a number of guys from Ghana. They tend to be articulate, very well mannered and all around damn nice guys.

Why is this?

I think there are a few factors. African Americans didn't come here to seek to better themselves. They came here at the point of a gun/spear. Who were they? They were the ones that didn't get over on the tribal level back in the old country. In other words, if they were the bestest and brightest, they likely wouldn't have got rolled by their neighbors and sold off to whitey.

Another factor is that the Africans that make it here today are at the opposite end of the spectrum. The local warlord hommies aren't coming over. The smartest and best educated are.
