Big 10 v SEC argument

Post by buckeye_in_sc »

not a post meant to debate top to bottom strength...but I went back to 1998 (beginning of BCS) and looked at all head to head bowl games between the Big 10 and SEC...I counted 24 games total and the Big 10 was 13-11...

my point...the competitive difference between the 2 conferences isn't as big as people make it out to be...

98 Outback PSU over Kentucky, Citrus Michigan overArk
99 Outback GA over Purdue, Citrus MSU over UF, Orange
UM over Bama
00 Outback SC over tOSU, Citrus UM over AU
01 Outback SC over tOSU, Citrus UT over UM, Sugar LSU
over ILL
02 Music City Minny over Arkansas, Outback UM over UF,
Citrus AU over PSU
03 Outback Iowa over UF, Citrus GA over Purdue, AU
over Wisky
04 Minny over Bama, GA over Wisky, Iowa over LSU
05 UF over Iowa, Wisky over AU
06 PSU over UT, Wisky over Ark, UF over tOSU

again...not flaming...rather pointing to the fact that
the Big 10 and SEC are actually competitive when they
play head to head in bowls...

thoughts? I am sure SEC honk/homer will say some crazy shit rather than look at actual actions on the field...some big games won by both conferences in there...just sayin

just to add on, I really don't think they "SECfan" watch football outside of the south...Example, Big ten teams beating each other = weak conference...SeC beating each other = one hell of a tough conference...I swear some necks in some remote hills are at this very moment mixing a Robert E Lee DNA cocktail and are looking to go round two...........just sayin'......................

When did AppSt, North Dakota St, ect. become part of the Big 10?

BCS conferences rankings this year

1. SEC
2. Pac-10
3. Big East
4-6. Pretty much sucking it up.

It isn't a great idea for the SEC to speak so highly of themselves. If they rape and pillage the Big Ten, they were supposed to, right? But if they lose, they've got some serious splainin' to do.

Huh?

I watched a middle of the pack XII North KSU team take Auburn to the limit, and your ballsucking SEC homerific dickmuncher says what?

yes I like the SEC...haha...I am a FSU fan fucking idiot.

That middle of the pack XII north team also anally raped texas. One of the top teams in the Big XII.

So what the fuck are we getting at here?

A W is a W.

Mizzou would be lucky to even say they took auburn to the limit.

Does a Big Ten or SEC honk really care if the bottom-feeders can beat the other conference's bottom-feeders? This really boils down to the top tier of each conference facing off and seeing who is the better conference based on "our best is better than your best". Minnesota is horrid and I don't care if Vanderbilt or Mississippi could beat them by two or three TDs. The real debate is on our minds right now is, who is better: Ohio State or LSU? I've not been a conference honk...the rest of the Big Ten can be winless for all I care. To worry about the results of ten other teams is silly and something your own team has no control over. Whoever hoists the glass football when the season is over, claims ultimate supremacy and nothing else matters.

Great responses Shoalz and Sam...again was just debating the merits of the SEC being vastly superior...most SEC honks (not necessarily sam) would tell you top to bottom it is a grind...so that tells me a team like Vandy, Arkansas in most years, etc should beat up on every other conferences mid to bottom tier just sayin...

as far as this year...I have watched a ton of LSU football...neighbor is an LSU grad...they look good when they are on, but lately they seem to be going through the motions...then you have Les Miles...I think Crouton and Pelini have bailed him out on more than one instance...

if LSU meets tOSU in the title game...remember the Vest woodsheded a miles coached team a couple of years back...so i give the head coaching nod to Tressel...but the players play and if THIS DOES happen (lot of games left to be played) I feel tOSU will be overlooked like UF last year and well it could be 2002 or 2007 all over again...

Well WW,

Who do you think the top teams in the Big XII are?

OkieSt? They are tied for 1st in the South but got ass raped by Troy and Georgia
TAMU? They are also tied for 1st in the South but got ass raped by Miami

You got Kansas, OU, Mizzou, and....who?

I was giving you Texas but you called me out on it. So thanks for reminding me that there is only 3 teams in the Big XII worth a damn.

Only to someone who doesn't actually watch the Big XII. I guess it would be similar to someone in Big XII country thinking FSU still kicks Wake Forest's ass every year.

Says who?

OSU is tied for first with Michigan in the Big 10.

Still have plenty of football to be played to see who is #1 in each conference.

Texas finished 2nd in the conference last year and was pre-season 2nd ranked this year.

They will probably lose one more game and finish 2nd in the south.

Sorry for saying your 4th best team was worth a shit. I forgot that the big XII is OU and the little 11.

Well, I guess that settles it then.

Sin,
UCLA, Nebraska, TCU, Arkansas, Florisa State, etc.

BTW -- Texas was #4 in both the AP and USA preseason.

That was in response to his FSU jab. FSU has lost to Wake two years in a row so I took it as Texas hasnt been worth a shit in the Big XII in two years.

I dont know, if you had to pick 4 teams out of each conference, would Texas come out of the Big XII in your mind?

I'd have to go with "yes."

Along with OU, Kansas, and Mizzou.

But that's where y'all's conference schedules are whack... my "gut feeling" tells me that Texas would probably beat either Kansas or Mizzou. But in the B12, I guess we'll never know.

Too bad I cant subscribe to the Big Ten Network on my b&w tv with the hangar and watch them classic matchups...

AppSt vs. Michigan
NDST vs. Minny

Your second best team got beat by a middle of the pack Southern Conference team.

AppSt is 1-2 in conference play. I wonder where they would be in the Big 10.

Ps. I lumped my conference in with the Big 10 and the Big XII. Quit crying, FSU doesnt play in the SEC. The noles hate the SEC more then your shit ass conference ever could.

How Kansas somehow avoided both OU and Texas in the same year was rather fortuitous scheduling. I thought for a North team you had one or the other every year, but never both. Whatever.

My XII rankings:

1. OU
2. MU
3. KU
4. OSU
5. KSU
6. Texas

I'm riding your ass for using (inaccurate to begin with) preseason ranking as a basis for your argument, not your actual argument itself, which I tend to agree with.

The SEC or Pac-10 is #1 this year. Next comes the Big East and then after that is much suck.

As long as you put yours in with the Southern Conference.

As much as I think the SEC are pussies for playing D1AA teams, atleast they beat them

I laughed.

Saying the Big East is #3 is a stretch at best? And why does the Pac10 deserve to be #2?

BTW, the lack of a comment about the SEC does not mean I agree with it but more that we have run that topic into the ground many times.

Has anyone heard from L45B lately? I haven't heard from him in a while.

The Big Ten is the #1 conference in the land....

They have two teams in the top 25.

One of those teams has played the likes of Kent State, Youngstown State, Arkon, and Washington.

They other has two losses OOC to Oregon and AppSt. With a 11 point win vs. Eastern Michigan.

The only reason we dont have more top 25 teams is because we beat up on each other.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that sorta' what we do here?

Trashing other teams conference and OoC schedule never gets old... the only thing more fun than bashing other conferences geography/affiliations is ragging on those within your own conference... right?

For instance, I've got a full month to degrade, humiliate, and otherwise badmouth Kansas for their putrid OoC all home game schedule before their epic beatdown at Arrowhead occurs. I shall take full advantage of every opportunity to do so. But none of you other myopic shitstains from obviously inferior conferences like the SEC, PAC 10, BIG 10, ACC or Big Easy better say shit about the BIG XII miracle Mangina's from Larryville.

Like I said, correct me if I'm wrong.
