If so what are you rocking?

I just have a basic Pearl Jet Black Forum Series with 1 extra tom (wine color) that was given to me...I also have the PDP rack system with the two side bars, PDP double bass pedal, and a saiban rock crash set with 2 Rock Crashes, 1 ride, and hi hats...

we play mainly rock, some metal, southern rock...

looking to upgrade the pedals and cymbals...was thinking Iron Cobra Double Bass Pedal and swapping out some of the cymbals with Zildjan A customs...

any thoughts?

not yet...we are just a neighborhood garage band that has played some neighborhood parties and what not...our guitarist isn't the most creative sort...he sticks to covers...

we are going to try to write some original stuff in the coming months and see what transpires...of course 4 mid - 30's guys don't stand much of a chance...

we tend to have a lot of amicable disagreements over song choices...guitarist and bass player love Fossil Rock...I like more current rock, metal with a few fossil songs sprinkled in...

I play drums in a band. Although, I am not a big equipment guy. I generally pick up a used cymbal or stand here and there. I have an old Pealr Export, and I prefer older zildjian cymbals.

My friend just brought over his V-drums a couple weeks ago so we can jam. They're pretty fun to fuck around with. I'm a shitty drummer, but it's kinda fun to switch it over to the TR-808 setting and bust out some old-school hip-hop beats. I really need to learn how to record and loop beats on that thing so I can play guitar or bass over it.

thinking of picking up a set for ~~myself~~ my son. Had an old slingerland 4 piece as a kid that was pretty decent. Looking for something similar.

Any suggestions on what to get would be appreciated. Anything to stay away from? Definitely looking used.

I used to sit at my kit thinking, damn, if I just had neil peart's setup, I could play his shit. After watching countless buddy rich youtube videos though, I am pretty much convinced that anything beyond a 4, maybe 5 piece is wasted.

Question. Is a 4 piece with a cowbell, a 5 piece? Because we all know that a cowbell is mandatory.

I'm no drummer, but when you refer to a "four-piece" kit, are you not counting cymbals? I don't see how you could get by with anything less than five pieces - kick, snare, hi-hat, tom, & crash. (six if you count the cowbell. :)) A ride cymbal seems like a near-necessity too, even for the most remedial drummer.

When folks refer to 4- or 5- or 7- piece sets, that number usually only refers to the drum shells themselves.

cymbals, high hats, wind chimes, cowbells etc.... are like black folks in the good old days. They are not counted. A 4 piece has the bass, snare, one tom mounted above the bass and one floor tom. This was pretty much the standard set up for most rock drummers in the early days . In the late sixties you start seeing 5,6,39 piece kits. I think neil pearts kit for the signals tour needed exponential notation in the description.

but despite all that shit, the best solo i have ever heard and I am quite sure, ever will hear is buddy rich on a 5 piece (two floor toms, one of which is pretty much just a sweat rag holder).

I bought a standard 5 piece and then got one extra 8" tom to mount so I have 6 pieces and that is enough...plus witha double bass pedal...(not that I am a speed demon or anything) but to throw in a couple licks now and again is nice...

my cymbal setup is hi-hat, 2 crash and ride...although I might switch them out from the sabian's that i have to Zildjan A Custom Rock cymbals...

i would go with a 5 or 6 piece...outside of Neil, Bozzio, and a couple of others why do you need so much...

also check out youtube and punch in Terry Bozzio and Korn...there is a short clip of him jamming a solo on their new album...FUCKING nuts...
