R.I.P.

I just today discovered that a message board legend is no longer with us. We had lost contact when HØNKSVILLE went belly-up way back when. He actually passed away a couple of years ago, but I just found out this morning when contacted by DFT.

RIP Mr. Krappy.

Damn. Sad news indeed.

I did some digging and it appears that Jerry "Mr. Krappy" Kabala passed away April 8th, 2005. I also located a G-Man post.

…..In Memory of Jerry Kabala
NCPMA members were notified that our old friend, Jerry Kabala, of Raleigh died on
Friday, April 8, 2005. His funeral was on Sunday, April 10. He died of a brain tumor that
had disabled him for over a year.
Jerry had worked for many years as the district representative for L Robert Kimball of
Ebensberg, PA. More recently he had been employed by Mapping Resource Group of
Wilmington.
Jerry was a friend to many North Carolina mappers. He was involved with our
organization from the beginning in the early 1980’s and was always there at our
meetings, conferences and mapping school. He and his colleague Jim Morgan were the
happy hosts of many after-hour sessions for gags, golf, libations, food or endless
arguments over mapping standards and specifications.
Jerry was a welcomed soft-sell. He would get you any information you needed whether
you were a customer or not and was an expert on surveying, mapping, and orthophotos.
Let’s keep Jerry’s family in our prayers and count our lucky stars for having known him

It sure sounds like the man was well liked, both in the bbs world and the real world. RIP.

Mr. Krappy was a true original. Sad that he didn’t live to see his beloved Squealers win Super Bowl XL. I may have to track down Soberman and let him know.

Too bad the Mouth Off gang and G-Man appear not to be posting at that board any more. It might be fun to chat again with Jake, Danno and DownUnderASheep Greg.

Those were good times. I wonder if Soberman remembers DaveinMissou? Best internet scam ever.
