Wow. So it's just football and to hell with every other sport??
USC needed the Galen Center badly and more than one sport benefits from it.
they could fix Dedeaux too, Id like to see Dedeaux built up to look like one of the SEC baseball stadiums like Arkansas.... USC has more titles in baseball than all the schools in the SEC combined, the Trojans deserve a good baseball facility.... fuck basketball, leave that shit and other bitch sports like soccer to UCLA
Galen was a waste of funds, did you see oregons football facility.... how many National Titles does Oregon have in football??? USC should have a facility at least as nice as Oregons

So basketball and soccer are bitch sports, but baseball is okay? I'm a little confused by the "logic" (word used VERRRRAHHHH loosely) here. Aren't you the one who thinks that any sport that lacks bone-crunching contact is a bitch sport? That would include baseball as well, wouldn't it?

Btw, from a spectator standpoint, college basketball is a much bigger deal than college baseball. Tell me you knew.

The Mausoleum doesn't belong to USC. Tell me you knew.

Oregons stadium sucks, thats not the facility I was talking about. I know that expo park belongs to the city. The money wasted on Galen center could have built a football training facility that would easily be the best in the nation.

Football and Hockey are great, baseball, thats the past time, its like religion only real

Dude Galen was NOT a waste of funds. You don't like basketball...that's fine. USC has the potential now to be competitive with the other Pac 10 schools in basketball.
They have a good coach in Floyd and now he can go get recruits..."Hey, come to SC. We have this great new facility, blah, blah, blah." That's better than making a pitch to
a kid and showing them the shithole that is the Sports Arena. Obviously the volleyball programs benefit as well.

Maybe, just maybe kids like Mayo are the tip of the iceberg, ya never know.

Do the football and related facilities need to be upgraded? Sure. Just don't tell me Galen was a waste of funds. I suspect the university sure doesn't think so. Having an
on campus facilty like Galen is something to be very proud of and it's been needed for a long, long time.

This thread is screwed up now. We were having a pretty decent conversation about the game last Saturday. That appears to be over.

that potential to get great recruits because of the facility should have been used on football, imagine the recruits carroll could bring in if he had facilities that were at least equal to anyone elses in the country, there is no excuse for other schools to have better football facilities than USC, the money spent on Galen should have been spent on a revenue producing sport like football, nobody cares about basketball

Let's focus on the bolded part for a moment, shall we?

Doing a quick google search, it said that Galan had all of the renovations completed in time for fall of '06. Let's say it took two years to do, and the money was approved a year before that. So we're assuming that the commitment to these renovations was made in the fall of '03. Let's take a look at USC's recruiting classes using Scout.com and Rivals.com

2003 - #1 on Scout with the 6th highest avg. star ranking. #3 on Rivals with #1 avg. star ranking. (This would be the first class before the renovations were agreed to)
2004 - #1 on both services, with the #1 highest avg. star ranking on both.
2005 - #6 on Scout, #1 on Rivals, both with #1 highest avg. star ranking.
2006 - #1 on both services, with the #1 highest avg. star ranking on both.
2007 - #2 on both services, with the #1 highest avg. star ranking on both.

You could have the fucking Taj Mahal and you won't get every player you want, nor every 5 star in the country. The fact is, USC has blown everyone's doors off when it comes to recruiting over the past 5 years. On paper, no one is really even close. So you aren't going to do much better.

See Schmick, a lot of people do care about basketball. Even if you think they don't. And the AD's job is to create as much revenue for the school as possible (and keep them out of trouble with the NCAA, but we'll leave that alone). When one arm is doing extreemly well, you use some of those funds to improve other areas of the department. #2 in line will be basketball because that is the next biggest money maker, after football. Baseball would be at best a distant #3.

And you better hope you keep attracting those stud women volleyball players. Where the fuck do you think Garrett is going to look for his new coach after Pete decides to blow out of there for San Diego?

all the best volleyball players come from California, as USC is one of the schools in the top athletic conference for CA schools, USC is going to get its share of great volleyball players. just like if USC would start a softball program, schools like Tennessee would never sniff the CSWS as those girls would stay at the CA schools.

Just because recruiting classes were #1 does not mean they couldnt have been better, they couldnt have been ranked any higher but they could have been better

a baseball stadium on par with Arkansas' would have cost much less than Galen center and would have gone a lot further towards resurrecting a program that was once the greatest in the nation, save basketball and soccer for UCLA
