the worse weis coaches, the better he recruits?
something to think about: weis has a killer recruiting class coming in from what i've read here [uh.. i don't frequent nd news otherwise]. how? and is this class any better than the two or three he's recruited so far, b/c they've obviously paid dividends for navy.
i wonder if notre dame's so bad now that it actually benefits their recruiting. even i can gain 300 lbs and heave myself on someone's couch to tell them all my players suck, so obviously you'll get four years of quality playing time on a team that traditionally rebuilds in front of 4 billion ppl on its own telly network, not to mention the faux-accolades that come from racking up numbers against midgets.

Most of this class was committed before the season started. The two commitments they have picked up during the season (Michael Floyd and Jonas Gray) were from kids that go to a traditional ND feeder school (Floyd) and another that stated ND was his number one choice before the season started, but didn't get an offer (Gray).M Club wrote:something to think about: weis has a killer recruiting class coming in from what i've read here [uh.. i don't frequent nd news otherwise]. how? and is this class any better than the two or three he's recruited so far, b/c they've obviously paid dividends for navy.

It's better than the other two classes he has recruited thus far based on rankings (#1 compared to two #8 classes), but in reality it is better because the ammount of players they are bringing in on the defensive side of the ball. Many of those players are high impact kids (Ethan Johnson, Omar Hunter, Anthony McDonald, Steven Filer, Robert Blanton, etc.).
His first two full classes are now sophs and freshmen. If you were to look at the depth chart, his players are either starting or back-ups at every position. The double edged sword in that is that while they may be talented, they are being relied upon much too early in their careers. It doesn't excuse 1-8, or explain why they are struggling so badly, but it's no shock that they are struggling.

Some decommits wouldn't surprise me. This season has opened the door to a lot of negative-recruiting, and you can bet the opposition will plumb that for all it's worth. But the "you can play right away" line can work, BC used it well during his 5-6 inital season to bring-in what was at the time considered a killer class. What will be interesting is seeing how Weise does next year. Even with his ridiculous buyout there could be doubts about his future, I see recruits having more of a "wait and see" approach.

I don't know all the details about Weis' contract. I do know there is a buyout provision, but I don't know how much money is involved. Absent the buyout, Weis' contract still has seven years to run, so it's not unreasonable to think that the buyout provision got a little more expensive with the extension. But money won't be the issue if ND decides to exercise it.Danimal wrote:What will be interesting is seeing how Weise does next year. ND has played Oregon within my memory. 1982, to be precise. I was a freshman at ND, you likely were still in high school.Dinsdale wrote:Now if Notre Dame were to ever play Oregon...
The game was at Autzen and ended in a tie.
A month later, I came home over Thanksgiving and ran into my high school vice-principal. The first thing he said to me was, [heavy Brooklyn accent]"How could you tie a team called DA DUCKS?"[/heavy Brooklyn accent]
