I believe I said "
IF Oregon wins out." I also said "there's a lot of ball left to be played."
Nice you're resorting to lies and half-truths to try and make a point, though.
What seems lost in all this, and I hate to break up your anti-Dinsdale party, is that the conference championship is still in sight.
I was pretty damn bummed after that debaucle, but considerin g the Ducks were predicted to finish 6th in the conference, I'm OK with it.
Let's see -- the starting QB was a no-show all summer, and wasn't even looking like he was going to start... then he enjoyed a brief run as America's Heisman Sweetheart.
This 6th-placed PAC10 team went into the Big House and kicked the living shit out of UM, for the H&H sweep.
Starting early in the season, the skill position players started dropping one by one. The other half of the two-headed running game... gone. #1 senior reciever(by far)... gone. #2 senior reciever... gone. They actually had to get the WR coaches kid to walk on (who just happened to be a freshman at U of O... I think he was sandbagging until the reciever corps thinned out a bit... sooner than expected) and put a jersey on the field a team.
We (yeah, I'll say "we" even after a big loss) were rolling out 11 freshmen. 11. The entire "Li" section of the phone book couldn't keep up with all of the redshirts hitting the laundry hamper.
Yet, they still scratched and clawed their way all the way back to #2. Let's see LSU, or any other team lose half of their starting lineup and move
up to #2.
Yeah, that'll happen.
Pile on all you like -- this season had nothing going for it, yet somehow there was a "#2" next to Oregon's name on the scoreboard, despite losing everyone on the roster not named Dennis Dixon or JStew. If anyone thinks that I, or any other Ducksfan would be disappointed by that, then you might want to rethink everything you know about college football.
Obviously, I wanted a sniff of the championship game. If anyone said it was a possibilty in August, I would have got a hearty laugh and appreciated their optimism.
Last night was a bummer. But looking at the Big Picture... the PAC is in
trrrrroooooouble. Hell, I thought it was Season Over Time when Brian Paysinger went down. It should have been double-season over when Colvin bought the farm. Yet Oregon just kept pulling off redshirts, plugging them in, and freaking winning in impressive fashion. And frankly, if a bunch of freshmen with no experience were performing at that level, what's going to happen with them in 2 years?
Are you kissing me? This has been the greatest "throwaway" season I've ever seen. Words can't describe the feeling when your big stars go down, and you just throw in the next 4-star to fill his shoes. That's not a luxury Oregon has ever enjoyed before, that's USC's gig -- now, it's the norm. I used to wonder if the elusive championship would ever happen in my lifetime, now it's almost a given.
Sure, I gave my shower rod a good long look last night... for about an hour. Then, the Big Picture kicked in, and I couldn't help but have a huge smile on my face. Getting knocked off #2 is always going to suck, but when you do it with a team that's said to be the worst in many years -- it doesn't sting nearly so badly.
I was actually hoping Belchokki would put Whatshisface... Nathan Costas in at QB once Leaf went gimpy, but since he was hoisting the clipboard while wearing a big ol wrap on his knee last game, it was probably for the better.
But if you guys were looking for tales of a Dinsdale suicidal rage... you missed your 30 minute window of opportunity. The future's so freaking bright, I gotta wear shades. Get used to hearing the name Ducks frequently. It only gets better from here.
