Both teams 5-6. Bowl eligibility on the line.
Husker fans, are you even up for any smack talking before this epic showdown or should we just skip it altogether?
Is it even worth starting a CU/NU thread?

Now that our O is rolling under Ganz(BC's dumb ass should've had Ganz in long ago) I like our chances. But this game is on the road and Folsom should be rocking. We have a definite talent-advantage but whether that will translate on the field is hard to say. I must admit to some mixed-feelings about this game. I want us to win but I don't want BC around next year. I think TO has already made up his mind but I don't want to take any chances. I'd like to see us win a really fugly cripple-fight. Then BC would hopefully get canned, we'd let Watson be interim coach for the bowl, and hopefully somebody good is named as the new HC shortly after.
A solid start is important for either team. CU will be primed to get bowl eligible, rinse the stink from the ISU game off, and beat Neb. But coming off a couple losses they could lose their fight if they get behind by much. Neb got behind at the start of the KSU game but ran the following kick-off back to tie it up. If they get significantly behind flashbacks from the previous losses could start, we get frustrated, and our suspect D turns into a seive again.

i think it's going to be a helluva an interesting football game here locally. anything could happen.
After CU dropped a 21 point lead at ISU, it's serious gut-check time for Hawkins' Buffs (a bowl game has been the realistic goal for this team all year) and NU hasn't quit like many thought they would....can Cally snub the world?
edit: looks like Danimal already posted the tenor of what i did. i concur. will Shawn Watson be this time-a-round interim coach bowl win Pelini style vindicator? (a lot of people "in the game" think Watson is really a smart guy.....i personally think he kind sucks but that's just me talking. i also thought Dennis Francione was the guy for OU after Blake. Sonny Lubick was my choice to replace Gibbs *and* Schnelly....that was looking pretty clever until about 99 or 2000 when Sonny lost his co-ordinators and has been an also-ran since).

I have heard mixed things about Watson. His O in 01 was killer but the majority at CU were meh and they weren't that sorry to see him go. I know he did have some respectable offers after leaving CU so I guess he gets some respect in the coaching ranks. He certainly isn't on the Pelini-level but he will be the only real option as interim-coach once(hopefully) BC is shown the door.
King, I'll give you a pass on Fran. Who really saw him bombing at ATM? Lubick did solid work at CSU for a good while, he just got old and like you said lost some good staff. Whether, in his prime he'd have been up to the challenge of handling an OU is pretty iffy. He'd have an easier time in terms of staffing at OU than a CSU, a stepping-stone school. Back in 03 Marvin Sanders was to be their new DC but he passed to coach db's at his alma mater Neb.

01 CU you 3 have NFL lineman including Daniel Graham (on 3rd and long. everyone in the stadium knows CU is throwing the ball to Graham)...and them beating Texas was one of the dumbest football games i've ever seen. Simms gives CU 21 points, game over (Barney tries to blow it, some Applewhite is god heroics). i'd say CU 01 and OU 06 were among the weakest Big XII champs.Danimal wrote:I have heard mixed things about Watson. i was kinda joking about the Pelini thing. i agree though: who saw Fran bombing? not me. he had a chance when Mack "couldn't the win the big game" and he could take Texas from UT....because Mack couldn't beat OU. but, after Vince, all the Meglo-Marts at UT.
Sonny was a good fit at OU, because his "Aw schucks" good ol boy thing would get play.
