Turkey size
I'm having 8 adults and 7 kids over for Thanksgiving. What size turkey should I get?
Do I need 2?
I know I should know this because I've done Thanksgiving at my house for years.
But I'm feeling overwhelmed.
I'm afraid I'm not going to have enough.
Should I get a spiral ham, JiC?

The smell of ham makes me sick. I have a 16 lb Kosher Turkey & I'm gonna pick up a brisket (3-5 lbs) to go along with it. Will have about 20 peeps at my house, wife family mostly. I hope to be drunk before the food is done cooking.

The only way to deal with a house full of in-laws is to hang out in the kitchen, appear to be too busy cooking to talk much, and drink.
(what...no gefilte fish?)
That's my point (maybe I wasn't too clear on that).Bucmonkey wrote:Left over bird is almost as good as the original Mikey, sheesh...
I count on at least 5 days worth of leftovers from turkey day.
I'm talking cold turkey while standing in front of the open refrigerator for breakfast, turkey sandwiches for lunch and reheated turkey, gravy and mashed potatoes for dinner.
If she's feeding 15 people on a 20 lb bird, she's gonna need to throw another one in the oven to get full satisfaction.

damn I'm glad I'm not orthodox jew.
there ain't much that smells better than a nice honey glazed ham baking in the oven. don't know if it smells better than a bird, but, imo, it does taste better. i love a nice moist turkey, but, a really good ham is tough to beat.

Excellent.
Might even have to bust that out this week, when I'm eating Thanksgiving dinner with my "adopted family*," a bunch of Jewish agnostics.
* -- TWIS, I need a ruling here -- is being adopted by a Jewish family while in my 30's enough to get me 1/16ths status? I've never beaned a sibling in the eye with a dradel, but I will occasionally mix in a "mazeltov" around the holidays if I get drunk enough. I do throw down carnitas and whatsuch like it's going out of style on an occasion, too.
Why are synagogues round?
So you can't hide in the corner when the collection plate comes around.
I got 99 problems but the 'vid ain't one

I forgot that I posted in this thread.

Hate that shit. Now, give me some good whitefish or sabel for may bagel, lox & CC and we are talking 'bout something I'm down with.Mikey wrote:(what...no gefilte fish?)
Me too, hate those fuckers (not all of them, just many of the ones I know).smac wrote:damn I'm glad I'm not orthodox jew.
Only the best tasting turkey you can buy, but don't take my word for it, try one yourself.smac wrote:Kosher Turkey? WTF is a kosher turkey?
Rack the funny, but unfortunately, you'll pay about twice as much for a kosher bird than a good non-kosher one.smac wrote:Ain't it the one you buy next friday for 29 cents a pound?
Not that we're desperate for new blood, but we can use a few more Members Of the Tribe. So welcome aboard and we'll schedule your annual donations to about 6 Jewish agencies and your circumcision*. Once that stuff is out of the way, you can consider yourself an "honorary" Jew with 7/16ths temporary voting power**.Dinstein wrote:Might even have to bust that out this week, when I'm eating Thanksgiving dinner with my "adopted family*," a bunch of Jewish agnostics.
