...or are my huskies that good?

I doubt the latter as cincinnatti fukked the huskies doggie style last week.

21-0 at the half, coulda been worse. Looks like the orange have absolutely no d, particularly pass d.

You just started watching CFB this season?

I still don't watch much of it. Hasn't been much to watch really up until now. Uconn can actually win the big east if they beat WV. Yeah, I know, a big east football title and 8 dollars will buy you a coffee at starbucks.

They actually did manage to go undefeated at home. And should actually get a pretty good bowl bid. Just hope Randy Edsal doesn't get lured away by one of the real football conferences. He's done a pretty damn good job.

Syracuse can't even recruit blue chippers in WNY and CNY anymore. They need to fire Robinson and hire someone who can recruit. Plus they need to promote their product in WNY and devolop some brand loyalty with the next generation of recruits out this way, or they're just begging to lose even more 4 and 5 star players to teams like Pitt, West Virginia, Michigan et al. At the very least, you should be able to watch EVERY SU football game on a local TV station here in Rochester and Buffalo just like you can in Syracuse. Ideally, there should be a full scale outreach program with football camps, promotions and advertising all designed with the idea of turning the next generation of recruits into SU fans.

I knew it would take a few years to recover from the Coach P. fallout. But never in my wildest nightmares did I expect this. :x

greg robinson is lucky. he rode the flavor of the month hire an ex-NFL coach post Petey Carroll. he had a decent year at Texas with some stellar players.

and still lost to OU.

Robinson has two Super Bowl rings, but it's easy to blitz when you are up 21 points in the 2nd Q. as myopic as Bronco fans are, no one here cried when Shanny canned his ass.

what he said^^^^ ND is so fukking bad this year, they got no business claiming bode over ANY div 1 teams. They may not be suckier than the 'cuse, but, they got no bidness claiming they're better.

what evidence do you have besides "they're notre fukking dame" to show otherwise.

They would have had they been on SU's schedule. I'm also certain that Appalachian State would have hung at least 30 on SU. If they're not the worst BCS school in the country, they're at least in the bottom 2.

^^^ What he said. Bad as ND is, we didn't lose to Washington at home by 30 this year.

Btw, excellent point about TV. I get TWSN as part of my basic cable package now, which basically covers local sports. No reason for them not to get some sort of TV deal with Syracuse.

washington, terry? are you fucking kidding? this isn't the same washington team nd played two fucking years ago. "Bad as ND is, we didn't lose to Washington at home by 30 this year." you need a reality check on this one, dude.

also, did you happen to attend any nd games this season? i'm assuming the answer is no. obviously there's a big difference between watching a game on tv and one in person. you don't appreciate their complete and total suckitude until you see them in person. seriously. i've never seen such large offensive linemen get pushed around by guys half their size (service academies), fail to open holes for running lanes or OMG actually pick up a blitz. the starting LT owes jimmy an apology, in the least. i almost felt sorry for him during the af game, he was getting lit up like a college station bonfire. and i NEVER feel sorry for any nd players.

if syr and nd played this year, it would be a 10-7 game with either team winning. and fwiw, of course i haven't watched any syr football. but i have seen enough nd football this year to know they are, far and away, the worst BCS team in the country, except for duke.

1. duke
2. nd
3. syr

that's a great class you're in now.

this doesn't even have an argument: nd is far and away the most underachieving bcs team. for all that money spent and pompous bullshit blowhard posturing from weis and all the supposed "talent" he's got, they are a fucking travesty.

you can't give away nd football tickets and you can't get nd hockey tickets. my, how times have changed. weis should take a lesson from a REAL, PROVEN WINNER who resides across the street at the joyce center, and i'm obviously not talking about mike brey.

but instead, he's going to sit down with the patriots' coaching staff to talk about what is wrong and how to fix it. the guy just doesn't get it.

Read that statement again, then figure out how stupid it is. If you're running smack, it's one thing, but if you're trying to use it as a legitimate basis for comparison, I feel sorry for you.

2. nd

I fully admit that we suck. There are some programs out there that suck worse. Syracuse happens to be one of them.

I hadn't heard about this. If so, I agree with you.

Imho, '08 is, or at least should be, a make-or-break year for Weis. With the schedule in place for next season, anything less than 8 wins should mean that ND dumps him.

Dont know. Both 2-9 and neither has wins over a program with a winning record.

I would say the spread would favor the home team in the game.

My BCS bottom 5
1. Minny
2. Duke
3. Cuse
4. ND
5. Baylor

Coupla points.

First, 4-5 star recruits in this neck of the U&R are relatively scarce. You get maybe 1-2 per year, if that.

Second, while it might be convenient to place this entirely at the feet of Robinson, that's not historically correct, either. A look at some pretty heavily recruited prospects from WNY and CNY who spurned SU, dating back to my high school days:

- Don Be'Ans: Didn't even seriously consider SU. He went to Arizona, also considered ND and Penn State. In fairness, SU's program at the time (early 80's) may have been even worse than it is today.
- Corny Southall: Went to ND, I don't recall how heavily SU recruited him.
- Dorsey Levens: Also went to ND, although ultimately transferred to Georgia Tech (for some reason, this is the one that causes major conniption fits for SU fan).
- Mike Hart: Michigan
- Greg Paulus: Duke for basketball.
- Mike Paulus: North Carolina.

Of that list, only Mike Paulus was a Robinson fit. That being said, Mike Paulus is the one that got away, in a huge way.

Any SU fan who expects his school to out-recruit the likes of Michigan and Notre Dame on a regular basis doesn't have a realistic opinion as to where his team ranks on college football's food chain. And as for Greg Paulus, apparently he dreamed of playing basketball for Duke since he was a little kid. I'm not saying that was in his best long-term interests, but that's what he wanted. Every so often, a coaching staff will encounter a kid like this, and there's usually little they can do to convince the kid to change his mind.

Mike Paulus was a different story, however. SU did make his final cut for schools, along with Michigan, ND, Alabama, USC and North Carolina. Michigan and ND were rumored to be his top two choices, so in an ordinary year, SU probably wouldn't have had much chance of getting him. But that wasn't an ordinary year. It was a very deep year for QB's, and both Michigan and Notre Dame were pursuing other QB's as well. As luck had it, Michigan beat out Texas for Mallett, and ND beat out USC for Clausen, which meant that neither Michigan nor ND would offer Paulus. Of the remaining four, you could probably eliminate Alabama on academics (sorry, SS, but they rank significantly lower than the other schools) and USC on distance. That left SU and North Carolina. Both were basketball-first schools, and Syracuse probably had more football tradition. Plus you had the angle of a local boy helping to resurrect a once-glorious program that had fallen on recent hard times, yadda yadda. Notwithstanding that, Paulus chose North Carolina. WTF was that?

I agree with you on Robinson having to go, but I don't see nearly the groundswell for that among SU's fanbase that I did for Pasqualoni when he was there. Ponderous, that, given the extent to which SU's program has fallen under Robinson's watch.

As for building the fanbase in the area, good idea, but you'll never exactly put a wall around the area as far as recruiting goes. There are other schools with significant fanbases in the area, even schools significantly removed from a distance standpoint, such as Notre Dame and Penn State. Throw in the fact that Syracuse is a basketball-first school, as well as a private (not state) school, and there are plenty of factors working against Syracuse in that regard.

Terry,

If you're going to go all old school, I can't believe you forgot Junior Poles choosing BC back in 78. And action that pretty much cost SU a chance at his son Ryan Poles back in 2002. Or is his name forbidden to speak in LeRoy?

I could forgive the occasional kid who gets overwhelmed by a school like Penn State, Notre Dame or Michigan. But Syracuse is getting raped for recruits in their own back yard constantly. As for Robinson, I think that groundswell is starting to happen now that it is patently obvious that he has not been able to recruit the players he needs to run his system. Syracuse fans were very forgiving at first as they understood that changing from the freeze option to a "pro style" offense would not be easy. But 3 years in should have been enough time to at least consistently beat lower tier Big East schools. And they sure as hell should be able to beat Miami (OH) and Washington.

Good catch, and no. In fact, his brother (who also passed on SU) is one of my clients, but I'd better not say more than that.

Stanford could have wrapped up the "worst team in D1" title with a big loss to Notre Dame this weekend, if only it weren't for that one crazy Saturday in the Coliseum when their whole shitty season went down the drain.

With NY being the 3rd most populous state and there being like 3 D1 football programs in the entire state, you're right that SU would be kicking ass. Don't even get me started on how bad SU's downstate recruiting has been.

Let's not forget that the other two 1-A programs in the state consist of a service academy and a glorified 1-AA program whose BEST. SEASON. EVER. (by far, mind you) consists of a whopping total of four wins. In the MAC.

So yeah, Syracuse would dominate. Maybe Schmick could find himself an ally after all.
