Wisconsin to the Outback
Announced today. Projected opponents seem to be either Tennessee or Auburn.
Cool. We get to whack another SEC pretender. I was holding on to the outside hope that the Badgers would get the Capital One, which would have afforded the opportunity to smash Tebow’s kneecap and make Trixie cry.

So if tOSU ends up in New Orleans, Illinois looks to go to the Rose and Michigan to the Capital One. If Mizzou wins Saturday, tOSU goes to Pasadena, Illinois to the CapOne and Michigan to the Alamo.

Is there a remote chance that the Cotton Bowl picks up UF? Would be interesting to see them match up with Mizzou or Texas.

In that last scenario, Capital One could opt for LSU, dropping Florida into the Cotton I suppose."There are probably more teams of quality this year than we've seen in a long time and we think that's great," McVay said.
Tennessee (9-3) meets LSU (10-2) on Saturday in the SEC title game. If the favored Tigers win to gain the conference's automatic BCS berth, things neatly could fall into place.
Georgia, which currently is No. 4 in the BCS standings, likely would get an at-large BCS berth. The Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla., is known to covet Florida, which means the Volunteers likely would drop to the Outback.
But if Tennessee wins, it could shake up several bowls. Then, the Capital One could be choosing between Florida and LSU. The Cotton Bowl, which now seems to favor Arkansas, could get involved and also want LSU.

The defense is playing much much better than in those games. We are very young on D. We will score on anyone.....MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:UF has played well against a bunch of slappys (lost their only 2 "true test" games vs UGA and LSU), but yeah, I'd take them on a neutral field over Michigan. That being said, it's unlikely this matchup will even take place.

If OSU ends up in NO, the Granddaddy is USC and Michigan (which sounds like an asskicking waiting to happen).
I'm not B11 Guy, but Michigan gets the tiebreaker over Illinois, right?
But there's no "maybe" on USC(assuming they beat UCLA). The Rose isn't taking UGA over USC... no way, no how.
I got 99 problems but the 'vid ain't one
michigan has nearly 1000 losses this year, which is par for lloyd carr's course. i don't really care to know how the bowls go about picking, but i've read absolutely nothing that would suggest michigan isn't going to get schooled by some 19th-place big xii or sec school on or before december 18th, let alone become a fetish muse for usc in the rose bowl.

Once the conf. champ is determined bowl selections go by overall record. Therefore it looks like UM to the Champs sports bowl aka junior citrus, I think this game is in about 10 days or so. UW is in the 3 slot in Tampa, Illinois looks to go into the 2 slot in Orlando, PSU to the Alamo, somehow giving UM the 5th slotted game. UM should be in the Citrus(Capital one) having beaten Illinois and PSU heads up and finishing second in the conference, but who cares. Let's get the bowls over and begin the Les Miles era.
If tOSU goes to the NC, the Rose Bowl gets an at-large pick to replace the Big Ten champion. I believe that team must be ranked at least #14 in the BCS rankings. So that eliminates Michigan.
Illinois currently doesn't fit the criteria, but after this weekend's games they should move up enough spots.
Right now, it's just a matter of the RB committee deciding between the traditional Big Ten vs. Pac-10 matchup or going with the big ratings matchup (USC vs. Georgia).

Yes. Yes, let's do.Let's get the bowls over and begin the Les Miles era.

the precedent laid out on this board re: um/osu shit talking is that you've lost your legs to stand on now that carr's been fired. i remember when cooper was finally offed and the entire osu contingency let out a collective sigh of relief, and any mention of our recent domination was met with [hands over ears] [blah blah blah i can't hear you] [game's on now, bitches] [etc.].L45B wrote:Yes. ditto. at least we only had to deal with this horseshite for seven years rather than 13.

The difference, to me, is that Ohio State hired a proven winner and program builder. Michigan is about to hire a babbling idiot who can't consistently win at an elite level without surrounding himself with brilliant assistant coaches. Something tells me Bo Pelini will not be following him to his next job. So again, I can't wait till he gets settled in up there.M Club wrote:the precedent laid out on this board re: um/osu shit talking is that you've lost your legs to stand on now that carr's been fired.
Call that a continuation of smack talk from The Game. Or call it my own personal opinion. Either way... get ready for plenty more assbeatings.

point taken, though apparently he's proven he can surround himself with the requisite assistants. i don't care if he's responsible for beating you or if it's someone he's hired. a babbling idiot will be a step up anyhow. all but one of tressel's wins against michigan were winnable, and a couple of them likely would have been had tressel's strategy hitherto not been to sit back and wait for michigan to coach itself, most notably the 05 game. those two wins against oklahoma when ou was ou are good enough for my peace of mind.L45B wrote:The difference, to me, is that Ohio State hired a proven winner and program builder. Just heard PSU officially to the Alamo Bowl.
This makes things interesting, because if Illinois ends up in the CapOne that would bump Michigan to the Champps Sports Bowl where they might get a rematch with Appalachian State.

As long as Miles can bring-in Grade-A asistants him leaning on them means little. There is always the possiblity he keeps Crowton and Pelini with him at Mich, Bo is the #1 rumor-mill candidate for Neb but I wouldn't consider it a done deal. Plus you got a great DC in Jon Tenuta out there that could use a job(hope Neb offers him). There is the possiblity that Miles runs out of guys like Texas did with the DC's where they kept losing them and eventually got a bad hire in Akita. But I doubt Miles will have too much trouble stocking coaches at Mich.

an argument against the fact miles is winning with the talent saban left him:Sudden Sam wrote: Miles inherited an incredible amount of talent and has failed to take advantage of it. basically, perhaps all that talent is a result of it being developed while in baton rouge.

The Rose Bowl doesn't necessarily have to have a Big Ten-Pac-10 matchup, do they? If things fell the right way where the two conference champs weren't going to play for the national title, that would be the matchup but with Ohio State and likely USC sliding up...we're going to see an unusual matchup in the Rose Bowl most likely. Maybe ASU moves in but I think we'll see a team like Georgia or Kansas make the trip to Pasadena.

Michigan can't get an at-large BCS bid. It is impossible for them to be eligible for it.Dinsdale wrote:Goober McTuber wrote:Another scenario is that if tOSU ends up in New Orleans, the Rose picks Georgia

Michigan is nowhere near the Top 14, and in any event, has only eight wins.At-Large Eligibility
If there are fewer than 10 automatic qualifiers, then the bowls will select at-large participants to fill the remaining berths. At at-large team is any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible and meets the following requirements:
A. Has won at least nine regular-season games, and
B. Is among the top 14 teams in the final BCS Standings.
No more than two teams from a conference may be selected, regardless of whether they are automatic qualifiers or at-large selections.
If fewer than 10 teams are eligible for selection, then the Bowls can select as an at-large team any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible, has won at least nine regular-season games and is among the top 18 teams in the final BCS Standings subject to the two-team limit noted above and also subject to the following: (1) if any conference has two or more teams in the top 14, then two of those teams must be selected and (2) from the teams ranked 15-18, a bowl can select only a team from a conference that has fewer than two teams in the top 14.
All teams ranked in the top 14, other than those from conferences which have already had two teams selected, must be included in the bowl selections.
If expansion of the pool to 18 teams does not result in 10 teams eligible for selection, then the pool shall be expanded by blocks of 4 teams until 10 eligible teams are available subject to the two-team limit noted above and also subject to the following: (1) if any conference has two or more teams in the top 14, then two of those teams must be selected and (2) from the teams ranked 15 or lower, a bowl can select only a team from a conference that has fewer than two teams in the top 14.
Note: in order to participate in a BCS Bowl game, a team (i) must be eligible for post-season play under the rules of the NCAA and, if it not an independent, under the rules of its conference and (ii) must not have imposed sanctions upon itself prohibiting participation in a post-season game for infractions of the rules of the NCAA or the rules of its conference.
