Wow....SoonerFan seems a wee bit uptight about this game on Saturday night.
He SHOULD be.
He SHOULD be.

Again? I wasn't aware of any Mizzoufan telling Soonerfan to be afraid, that would be illogical. Maybe I missed it.War Stoops wrote:Here we go again with the "be afraid" smack from Mizzou fan.
But since we've been accused of it, might as well get our monies worth, eh?
No, but seriously, a friend w/o a dog in this hunt asked me if I thought MU would win with my head or my heart. That's an interesting question, with an unusual answer.
My heart says, don't get your hopes up, they've been dashed too many times before. You'll only be disappointed and heartbroken again.
My head says, OU lost 2 games to teams that Mizzou beat each by identical scores of 55-10. Now, I know better than to try to read too much into that, but still, that has to cause Soonerfan a bit of concern, does it not?
The only reason I don't give that stat more weight is that I think there's a whole lot of the "Big Brother" syndrome going on in the MU players heads. Even if they're the better team, I don't know if they really believe deep down in their hearts that they can actually beat OU, especially on this stage of stages.
I believe.
Let's Go Tigers!!!

Where is everyone watching the game????
I'll be listening to Kelly and kadlec on my walkman, while im watching the Blues beat the shit out of the Blackhawks.
I waivered on this all week, and i came to conclusion that:
If MU gets blasted, i give my hockey tickets away, i will be super pissed.
If MU is winning or game is close, i can always leave the game, to catch last quarter at a bar downtown.
I still am not sure about the game. So i'll say:
MU 27
OU 24
OU losing their DE's is a huge loss to them. getting pressure with 4 against MU and playing cover 2 and 3, is a easy way to stop them deep, and force 3-7 yard passes and outs. DB's sit on them and it's pick 6. When frustrated, daniel will force the ball. Fuck, at norman, on a play with no pressure, he forced the ball into 4 defenders on short side. Anyone one of 4 OU players could of picked it.
Patrick is the key to OU. He runs hard and right to the hole, he doesnt dance, when you dance, a fast defense can pursue and recover, when they get run at, they fold. MU defense must step up! Dont allow them to run downhill!!!!!!!

Huh? How'd Mizzou treat that secondary?SunCoastSooner wrote: Personally I would have been worried more if it were Kansas; they have a secondary.
They have ONE good corner in Aqib Talib, that's it, and I'd say that William Moore easily matches that.
But even if KU's secondary were all that much better, so?
You're seriously telling me that you think KU would have a better chance of winning against OU than Mizzou? If that's so, then you're a fool who doesn't know the first thing about CFB and should probably just stfu now before you embarass yourself and your fanbase any further.

How many times has Mizzou ever played a game that if they won, were in the National Championship? This has never happened before, and may never happen again. At least not in our lifetime.
Dude, do what you want, but I wouldn't miss watching this game for my daughters wedding.

No, it does not. The score of Missouri's one loss is identical to the score of the game in which OU beat Missouri. Missouri has more to play for, in my opinion, because they've got a shot at the crystal ball, but it's not like OU gives a sh*t about what Missouri and Gary f'ing Pinkel has to play for. If a head-up-their *ss OU team shows up, we could lose by two scores or more. If a well-coached OU team shows, then we could win by 3 or more. I think that OU is a better team, up-and-down, but that Missouri has been playing more consistent football all season long. Which OU team shows up will be huge. If Missouri hits Macklin deep early, then things could start to go downhill really quickly. Don't expect to be able to run the ball though.War Wagon wrote:My head says, OU lost 2 games to teams that Mizzou beat each by identical scores of 55-10. I'm giving two scores... One is my head and the other's my heart, and I'm not labeling them, 'cause, frankly, I don't know which is which yet...

Yeah. Seriously. THAT's how down I've been on our play-calling in big games lately... Hell, in ROAD games THIS year... I wrote about it a while back, and I'll repeat it here. Bob hasn't stepped up in a big game, in my opinion, and out-coached somebody, since Mike left. I hate this sh*t.

Alrighty then, I get what you're saying, but you do realize that the circumstances are a lot different now, right? I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating.
OU will be without DeMarco Murray and Austin English. Those two made a huge impact in the first meeting. You think they won't missed some, much?
As well, Tony Temple will be ready. That guy has simply been mauling opposing D's lately. You can't just sit back and play the pass or sell out on a blitz or he'll make you pay.
And playing at a neutral site can't be forgotten. OU is simply not as good away from Norman.
Wow, picking two different scores and winners? There's a novel idea. How come I never thought of doing that? Why, I'd never be wrong using that strategy. As the Guiness Stout dorks say, Brilliant!I'm giving two scores... One is my head and the other's my heart, and I'm not labeling them, 'cause, frankly, I don't know which is which yet...

Ok, again I see where you're coming from, skull. But I really can't imagine this game being won by more than 1 score, either way. We shall see.

Finally, something on which Sooners and Tigers can agree! I may be out-of-pocket the next couple of days so I'll restate my pick now. As with most everyone on this board, I'm struggling with a read on this game. Yes, OU blows communist goats on the road. Yes, Murray and English will be missed. Yes, Bob Stoops has underachieved in Championship games since Stoops-the-younger left. But I get a feeling that the OU players are buying into the underdog role (I know they are Vegas favorites, so save that comment) and that could make them dangerous. I also give some credence to the "Missouri's never been here before" theory. I think Oklahoma will get out to an early lead and that the Sooners will have to withstand a massive comeback. I think they hold on to win.Wags wrote:Fuck, this week is taking forever to get over with, and I'm on vacation. I simply can't wait until the ball is teed up and this game is ON.

Solid take, WS.
The key to this game will be if OU can have (another) fast start, which they seem to have in most games, but failed to maintain in their two losses -- a big lead against Colorado only to have our special teams stick their heads up their asses (that's been a recurring theme this year) -- and also an early, quick lead against TT. To be fair, had Bradford not been knocked out, the outcome may have been different, but it took Halzle the entire first half to finally get the cobwebs out of his head -- about 2 fucking hours in real time -- given how long that game lasted. If that happens with either OU QB on Saturday, Mizzou will win this game, because I don't think Daniel will take more than one series before he gets into a grove, barring turnovers.
If Mizzou has more than two turnovers -- and assuming our special teams play with their heads on their shoulders instead of inside their colons, OU will win.
OU - 35
Mizzou - 33
Wags, at least there's a great NFL game to help kill one of the next two days.![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

Yeah, 'cept Time Warner cable still doesn't carry the NFL Network. :brad: And I won't be going out to a sports bar and paying $4 beers to watch it, either.RadioFan wrote: Wags, at least there's a great NFL game to help kill one of the next two days.
Adel asked where people were watching the game. I'll probably just stay at home. Home is always a good place to be at times like these. There's very little chance of getting in a fight, getting arrested, going to the hospital and then jail. You generally wake up in your own bed the next day, which has always been a goal of mine. Simple pleasures, these are the best.
But, if just about any one of the many OU fans who frequent T1B invited me out to drink beer and watch the game, I'd go in a second.

Mike may have been on the sidelines for the 2003 Big 12 Championship game, but he wasn't really "there." Also, I'm not picking two scores to hedge... I'm picking two scores because I honestly don't know which OU team we're going to see. Tell you guys what... I have to coach a game Friday night. I'll be up late. When I get up Saturday morning, I'll have a few Nattys, for old times sake, and then I'll get back on here and make another; a Gameday, prediction.
I hate that we're without Murray and English... mainly English... but, talent-wise, we're still MORE than capable of putting enough on the field to blow Missouri out, even if they play their best game... but, at the same time, if that talent plays, or gets coached, from an interior colon view, then it's quite possible that it goes the other way. Missouri is quick-strike enough to get on top and stay there. If OU's DB's don't respect that, and if the coaches call a conservative game, then we are not going to look good against Mizzou.
Believe me, if I knew which team was going to show up, I'd call my shot a lot closer. I mean, I'm not Babe Ruth, pointing to the fences here, I'm just saying that SOMEONE is going to get a hit.
I can't wait for Saturday. I NEED that Natty.

reading Mizzou boards this week is like being in a bar full of really loud, fat drunk chicks. why is Mizzou fan so hysterically convinced that OU fan MUST admit OU didn't win the game, MU gave it away? it was a 3 score game with 2 minutes left. 3 scores is a lot of "What ifs?". scoreboard. get over it. win this one and no one will care about last time. and MU fan, get over the comparative scores deal, so you beat Tech and CU 55-10...hooray....you still lost to us.
reading OU boards ain't much better, but at least the over the top chest-thumping hillbilly overconfidence has some precedent.
i'm done with the homer boards until gametime.

Hey, cut us some slack, we're new at this and don't know how to act. It's tough to act like you've been there before.... when you haven't actually been there before. All we do know is that we've got a damn good football team, probably the best Mizzou squad ever, at least as far as what we've lived long enough to witness.
fwiw Soonerfan, at least this Mizzoufan doesn't buy into that "we gave it away" nonsense. We got thumped in the 4th qtr. when it mattered most. OU took it, and it was like stealing candy from a baby.
We're hoping that we've grown up a bit since then, and it'll be lil bit tougher to rip that lollipop from our grasp this time. We'll be holding on tight.

I don't have a problem with Mizzou fan or their opinions of the game, even to the point of them feeling the game was given away.
My problem is with bandwagon Mizzou fan spitting out opinions like they were worth $100 a pop.
Sat with another parent at my daughter's practice last night and the subject came up. I didn't bother bringing up my affiliation until he was finished, but in a span of ten minutes, I got the following ....
1. Daniel is going to be the best NFL pick heading into the draft since Payton Manning and is head and shoulders above anyone else at the position right now in CFB.
2. OU and Texas are going to suffer for years in the recruiting area because of this game and might never get the edge back.
3. Tony Temple plays in the first game and MU wins by at least 21 points, because he's better than anyone OU can put on the field.
4. Nebraska should re-hire Frank Solich and return to the wishbone, because nobody can stop it (especially liked this one).
5. MU will be the number one school in the Big XII when it comes to recruiting now, because they run the offense everyone wants to run.
6. Based on Pinkel's recruiting, this will be the first Big XII championship of many (although he couldn't name anyone when asked).
7. KU is horrible and only managed to score a few points late in the game when Pinkle was resting most of his starters for the OU game.
8. MU is going to win because the players deserve it more
YIKES

Crap.
So much for that Natty...
I just found out that my girls team has a game Saturday afternoon in Durant, which is about an hour away. I probably won't get back home until close to kickoff, and, big game or not, there's no way that I'm chugging 6 Natty's in that short an amount of time. Phonebook Natty Skull is loooong gone. He's been replaced by Teaching Coaching Old Man Skull.
I'm feeling frisky today though...

MU 27
I hope I have time to drink that Natty. I want to make an uneducated guess instead of pulling random numbers out of my magic arse day-after-day.

i read on a board today (possibly tigerboard.com) that a #1 team has been an underdog 6 times since 1985 (i believe)....and has won 5 of the 6.
Stoops will prolly put his marbles in establishing the run game and then play action (Malcom Kelly on the post route....a nation turns it's lonely eyes to you)....
two things for sure, i think the game will get chippy and it will last FOREVER.
if mizzou can't line up and stop Patrick/Brown then OU wins. if OU can't line up and run Patrick/Brown then MU wins. MU will get theirs, OU can't get down early and can't give away possessions/scores with turnovers. on the by and by, 4 real good TE's in this game.
it would also be interesting how Mizzou's staff looks at and uses the OU-Tech game film. I'm pretty concerned about OU's D. seems pretty porous to me and as usual soft in the middle zone. in the Tech game they went from dictating physicality, making Harrell hurry, and a step ahead to deadsville molassas feet reaction in about 4 minutes in the first Q. the optimist will point out that OU held Tech to a FG in the second half and shut down OSU in the redzone. If Robinson threw the ball average to better than average last week, i think that's a much different ballgame...says the glass half empty guy. too bad English is out, but Beal got his name called a few times last week.
no prediction.
props to Mizzou fan for a great year either way.

No doubt. These two teams have seemingly developed a genuine dislike for one another. Not at an MU-KU level of hatred or anything, but I don't think Pinkel and Stoops will ever be exchanging Christmas gifts.King Crimson wrote:i think the game will get chippy.
Mizzou wants badly to be where OU resides, king of the hill, and OU is intent on beating down any attempts to take what they consider their rightful place in the grand scheme of CFB.
But take that hill we must.

T1B- THE place to be for fun, informative sports talk....or NOT:

Oklahoma has won 4 national championships in my lifetime, you plan on being around that long to bandwagon MU?
if you win it ALL, congrats on having a great team and turning into CU fan circa 1990-present.
