Final season of The Wire begins Jan 6

Post by PSUFAN »

This is probably one of the best shows I've ever followed. If you haven't checked this out, you should...season 4 is coming out on DVD soon.

Season 5 will be the last - no long, drawn out ending, no weakening of the plot...

the season premier was fucking outstanding. my favorite quote, from culver at the beginning of his first meeting:

"You all can sit the fuck down and quit pretending to respect the rank."

The Wire is so much better than anything else on TV it isn't even funny.

Fav moment from the opener was the opening sequence with Bunk toying with that kid, culminating in the "lie detector" moment. Classic Wire moment.

They've definitely done a good job building up the Marlow crew.

i'm up through epi 4 of season 5 at this point, and the other skillful thing they do is switch the "institutional" setting of the show in each season. to the docks, to the school, to the mayor's office, to (i guess) the newspaper (media). and, minus season 2 to an extent, is not get too bogged down in reproducing the original gimmick--the surveillance wire--as the primary plot feature. that being said, they are doing a nice job of coming full circle in bringing back the Greeks and (most likely) bringing back the wire for the win (or near miss?).

great show.

This might be the ONLY time I regret not having the pay movie channels for DirecTV. I'll have to wait a year and some change to catch up on the last season of The Wire.

Rack Clay Davis. When he scammed Stringer Bell for thousands of dollars when B and B wanted those building permits, I laughed hard. When he scammed Carcetti for a similar amount of money, backed Royce, and then came back to Carcetti after he had won to smooth shit over, I was blown away. Dude has enormous stones.

Best cop drama since Miami Vice.

I won't give anything away but let me just say that Clay just might have his finest moment in Season 5.

I've been avoiding this season so far because between work, daughter, poker, wrestling camps, and volunteer coaching for the new local USSA swim club it's difficult to catch episodes of anything. Either going to have to find them on the net or wait for the DVD release. I already own the previous 4 seasons so I have been rewatching that and The first season of "Heroes" which a girl I dated for a little bit and am now friends with bought for me and made me watch and turned out to be pretty damn good without the commercials in it. It's become my second favorite series behind "The Wire" on television.

Just wish I had time to watch a little bit of TV occassionally.

So, I couldn't help it - I watched episode 58 early from On Demand. I guess that frees me up for tonight.
