you need an invite to get an account on there. Once you join, you start with 5 and then the longer you stay and the more you use it, the more accounts you can give out. Used to be really hard to get, now its easy if you know some geeks.

why is it better than say yahoo? I only use that crap for throwaway e-mails.

1gb of space. Groups all your emails by subject. You can keep years and years of emails. Plus gmail doesn't spam you like yahoo and hotmail do. Actually the only spam I get on there after having it for months now is from yahoo because I added my gmail email account to my yahoo profile for the yahoo list crap. Anyway it works a lot better then all the other free email things out there. You can use it for your shit mail or you can use it for valid mail.

If anyone wants a referal from current gmail members, you need to PM one of them a valid, non hotmail/yahoo mail account. They will then fill out a referal email that will be sent to you inviting you to start your gmail account.
