How is your State at Producing Football Coaches?
I was born in Cleveland, Oh...graduated from OSU in 1995 and granted I live in Charlotte, NC...obviously Ohio is home...
some of the current coaches at the major college level from Ohio:
Les Miles
Bob Stoops
Mike Stoops
Jim Tressel
Ron Zook
Urban Meyer
Bo Pelini - head coach now at NU
smaller divisions
Larry Keheres at Mount Union one of the most successful college programs of all time (longest winning streak regardless of division in college football history, yes I know OU has the D 1 record at 47)...
some of the old guard:
Lou Holtz (although he was born in WV - he claims Ohio as home grew up in East Liverpool)
Bo Schembechler
Ara Parsegian
Woody Hayes
Lee Tressel - Jim and his dad have won national titles
Paul Brown - coached at OSU
Pretty impressive and I am sure I am leaving people off...but these are just off the top of my head...pretty stout list...Miami of Ohio has been known as the cradle of coaches...with Holtz, Schembechler on the same Hayes staff...
then some of the assistants that have come through OSU (they are not necessarily from Ohio)
Tim Spencer - asst with Bears
Lovie Smith - HC of Bears
Larry Coker - former HC of the U
anyway pretty impressive list...I figure with all the conference dick sizing going on this might be topic that might be fun to debate/discuss...

you'd have to give Arkansas and Frank Broyles some old school cred along the same lines as the current Ohio crop. having both coaches to win both MNCs and a Super Bowl: Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer.

Texas produces coaches like they produce football players, there is just too many to count. Just off the top of my head
1. Hayden Fry
2. Tom Landry
3. Jimmy Johnson
4. Bum Philips
5. Wade Philips
I know there is a lot more but those are the ones that come to mind

you CFB guys are more fun than a barrel of Pinkels.
He's from Ohio, btw.
I hate sigs. But I lost a stupid fucking bet because a KC Paul lookalike and his sorry ass team were inferior to the greatness that is the Pittsburg Steelers.

i'm guessing on numbers alone it would be pretty tough to beat a comprehensive list from Texas--though, this year's Cowboy euphoria aside, i'm not sure Wade Phillips would have come to mind right off the bat.

Jimmy Johnson only went to college at Arkansas; he is from Dallas, Texas.King Crimson wrote:you'd have to give Arkansas and Frank Broyles some old school cred along the same lines as the current Ohio crop. having both coaches to win both MNCs and a Super Bowl: Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer.
Frank Broyles is from Georgia and didn't even go to Arkansas but Georgia Tech; he was only ever the HC and AD at arkiesaw.
Barry Switzer is theonly one really from Arkansas.
