Wow, even the players buy into the SEC schtick

Post by Adelpiero »

http://www.stltoday.com/blogs/sports-ti ... /12/18539/

a few of the gems from arKansas players:

This all started earlier this week when Arkansas defenders said Chase Coffman wasn’t as athletic as Martin Rucker. Look at the picture —>

Does that look like an unathletic player?

The only Arkansas player that seemed to do any research was Kevin Woods. He likened Missouri to North Texas, but said Missouri was a lot more polished.

Ding, ding, ding!

That’s a great comparison considering Todd Dodge, Chase Daniel’s former high school coach, is the head guy there and considering the two teams run the EXACT same offense. Richardson said he hoped Missouri could give Arkansas more of a game than North Texas did. That’s sporting of him.

“They have a great offense, but I don’t think they’ve seen a team that can run like us,” Richardson said.

He also likened his defense to Oklahoma’s. I had to walk away after that.

Arkansas starts conference debate

If I have to hear one more Arkansas player tell me how superior the SEC is to every other conference, I think I might get hostile. That’s all I heard from the five defensive players – LB Weston Dacus, CB Michael Grant, DT Marcus Harrison, CB Matterral Richardson, and FS Kevin Woods – who were invited to speak with the media at the Omni Mandalay Hotel on Friday.

“There’s not really a whole lot of drop-off from week to week,” Richardson said. “The Big 12, they have four or five teams, but you’ve always got teams like Iowa State that if you were a coach at Texas, and you we’re playing Iowa State you would be like you’re supposed to win this game. But if you’re playing in the SEC, you go to Ole Miss or Mississippi State, they’re going to give you a good game every time you play them. That’s the great part about our conference.

“If you look at it, almost every team in our conference is bowl eligible. How many teams out of the Big 12 are bowl eligible? We have the best. That says a lot about us, our conference from top to bottom, because we have better conference and more teams that’s going to bowls. It just shows the great athletes in our conference and come out of our conference every year.”

Wow. Let’s play, “Spot the ridiculous statement”, shall we?

1. Ole Miss is going to give you a good game every time you play them? Missouri beat the Rebels 38-25. Arkansas beat them 44-8. Both games were at Ole Miss. What part of that screams good game?
2. Almost every SEC team is bowl eligible. How many did the Big 12 have? The SEC had nine, the Big 12 had eight, and had two BCS teams just like the SEC.

Can someone tell me when it became cool to talk crap about your opponent’s conference? Really? This coming from the same team that lost to Alabama?

One of Missouri’s players asked me when, exactly, Arkansas learned to walk on water. I have to agree. It’s an awful lot of smack for a team that wasn’t in the Top 25 the bulk of the year, allowed 501 yards of total offense to Mississippi State, and had seven turnovers against Florida International.

Missouri players hear it. Tight end Martin Rucker said it’s good bulletin board material and that he hopes they continue to talk. Coffman_leap1.JPG

Missouri’s key offensive players had their media day on Friday, too. They were a little more respectful until they started hearing some of the comments Arkansas had for them. Apparently – and I was at a different table – Will Franklin went on a tirade about the lack of respect from Arkansas and the SEC. Jeremy Maclin also had a few choice words. I might use them in a story tomorrow.

One of the members of the media said this same thing happened between Auburn and Nebraska in 2007. Nebraska lost that game 17-14.

Here’s how Missouri and Arkansas stack up statistically:

Frankly, I love it.

Not that Mizzou needed any extra motivation, getting snubbed by the BCS bowls, but this just gives them extra reason to want to wipe the Cotton Bowl field with SEC ass.
I hate sigs. But I lost a stupid fucking bet because a KC Paul lookalike and his sorry ass team were inferior to the greatness that is the Pittsburg Steelers.

MIZ-

to be real honest, a real mediocre (on offense) OU team held Arkansas and Matt Jones to about 70 total yards in the 01 Cotton Bowl. even Bill Callahan almost beat Auburn last year if he didn't step on his crank trying to outsmart himself.

More gas for the fire.

From the Star: DALLAS | Missouri tight end Martin Rucker read the story off a coach’s cell phone on the way to practice and later called it “poster board material.” Quarterback Chase Daniel had previously discussed it as a lack of respect.

And so the bowl week fodder continued.

As the Tigers’ Cotton Bowl matchup with Arkansas drew nearer, Missouri’s vaunted tight end combo of Rucker and Chase Coffman became a popular discussion topic Friday — and not just for their combined 132 catches, more than 1,300 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns.

In a story published by the Northwest Arkansas Times earlier this week, Arkansas linebacker Weston Dacus said the Razorbacks planned to play Missouri’s tight ends “the same way we’ve played all the others” and that Rucker was “the only mismatch” of the two, which was taken by some as a slight to Coffman.

Razorbacks strong safety Matt Hewitt went on to say in the story that the Tigers and their tight ends were in for a “rude awakening Jan. 1” because Arkansas was going to bring an aggressive man-to-man defensive approach.

Daniel didn’t even need to hear the whole question as yet another reporter brought up the story Friday, wondering whether the quarterback had read it.

“We all have,” Daniel interjected, seeming ready to move off the topic.

“Both of our tight ends, they’ll be ready to play,” he said a little later. “They’re more excited than anyone on this team.”

That may not be what Arkansas defensive coordinator Louis Campbell wanted to hear. The man charged with game-planning against the big-bodied 6-foot-6 Rucker and 6-6 Coffman — who rank first and third on the team in receptions, respectively — has no shortage of respect for the duo.

“The tight ends jump out at you a lot,” Campbell said. “When you first start looking at the film, you think, well, they’ve got four or five wideouts out there. And you think, good grief, who is that guy, it can’t be a wideout? Well that’s Rucker, or that’s Coffman. … They’re nightmares to try to scheme or try to get a matchup for.”

The consensus from the Arkansas players was that they would, indeed, treat Rucker and Coffman similarly to prior foes. That means the Tigers would be defended mostly, though not exclusively, with man-to-man coverage and cornerbacks coming up to press the top playmakers — even 6-6 tight ends.

“I went against a lot of great tight ends in the SEC. It’s nothing different,” Hewitt said. “… We’ve got a good package for them.”

“We’ve seen great tight ends,” Arkansas cornerback Matterral Richardson said. “If you watched us play every week this year, regardless if they’re a tight end, a wideout (or) a running back, if they’re a good receiver we try to put our best cover guys on them. We’re not trying to make an exception just because Missouri has two tight ends.”

The only team to play man-to-man defense extensively against Missouri this season was Colorado. The Tigers won the game, 55-10.

Dacus, meanwhile, seemed a little miffed that his comments had spurred such discussion in the first place.

“I didn’t put either one of them down,” he said of Rucker and Coffman. “I just feel like we’ve played against a lot of talent in the SEC and, like I said, we’re not going to put all our focus on two guys.”

If nothing else, it’s created a matchup worth monitoring when the teams meet Tuesday.

“It’s definitely poster board material,” Rucker said.

“We say things, and we know how stuff gets twisted out of context. … He might not have meant to say it like that at all, but that’s just the way it came out. But it doesn’t matter. It’s going to be a good challenge.”

Colors aside, Arkansas ain't OU. Unless Brent Venables surreptitiously decides to put in a cameo along the Pig sideline, the the Hawgs don't have a prayer of solving the Mizzou spread.

Good Lord. What a buncha arrogant, flaming fucks.

Meatgrinder? My ass.

Try wa-a-a-ay over-rated. Put the farm on the Tigers.

Huh?

If you want to eneter the world of CFB discussion and discourse, then more power to you, brother.

Just try and not sound like a fucking retard doing it, alright?

There's 10 BCS Bowl spots. Hawaii got a guarantee, leaving 9. There's 6 BCS conferences, each with a gauranteed spot for their champ, and rightfully so. There's 7 of 10 spots spoken for, 3 to go. So... why should any of the other eligible teams be "snubbed" in favor of a runner-up in what was BY FAR the worst of the BCS conferences, who essentailly beat nobody, and lost the only two games against decent opponents they played?

That's not a "snub," douche -- it's correct. Putting Mizzou in over anyone else that's there would have been the "snub."

Don't like it? Don't lose games... pretty simple. At least don't lose the CCG... which Mizzou did. They "snubbed" themselves, and anyone who blames anyone else should have both their tongue and gonads surgically removed.

Of course, as an SEC Hater, I must begrudgingly rooot for Mizzou (YUK!)... but as a neutral observer, I don't really give them much of a chance, which is too bad. But go Mizzou!

god you suck, seriously, your mumbo jumbo, flip flop, shit is so boring these days. Your taking a shit on this forum with your garbage!

You stated that everyone who got in deserved it!
You stated MU beat noone
MU beat 2 of the teams who got BCS bids

SO? ok, we all know the dealio from Duncedale:

1. he totally disappears from this thread, this is probably his signature move in this forum(shitting in a thread, look like fool, then bolt).

or

2. He totally flip flops and again looks like the duncedale we all know!

I vote 2 this time.

Wha... :?

Tell me you're not this freakishly ignorant and are just trolling.

As adel pointed out, Mizzou beat two teams, Illinois and Kansas, who did receive a BCS invitation.

Of course, as an SEC Hater, I must begrudgingly rooot for Mizzou (YUK!)... but as a neutral observer, I don't really give them much of a chance, which is too bad. But go Mizzou!
Despite your ignorance and apparent misgivings, you may root for Mizzou. I'm magnanimous that way.

How is a conference that has 7 elgible bowl teams the worst BCS conference? Let' s see.....OU, MIZZOU, Kansas, and Texas all had a chance to play in BCS bowls until the last week of the season. Texas screwed themselves by the abortion at Collge Station. But, they played the co-champs of your beloved Pac-10, who themselves felt snubbed and got their asses handed to them. ASU was a fucking joke. Both OU and Kansas made the BCS game and Mizzou got overlooked. Much like ASU did by losing at the end of the season. Yet, we still have 2 teams in the BCS while the PAC-10, Big East, and ACC only have 1. How are we the worst again?
