Umatilla, Florida, eh?
Is there some sort of Reciprocal Rule of Naming Cities In Honor of Indian Tribes from the Opposite Corner of the Country?
If so, I guess we better get cracking on incorporating the city of Seminole, Oregon.
(Shit -- after a quicky websearch, it's said that Umatilla, FLA was named after Umatilla OR. Sounds like there's an almost kinda-sorta interesting story in there somewhere)

This thread is useless without pics!

The pics were from a horrendous accident and the photographer, Ivan Itsriptertitzoff, has filed copyright suits already.

When Andy Worhol published horrific accident pictures, it was a masterpiece of pop culture. When the New York Post showed pictures of Clapton's dead son splattered all over a Manhattan sidewalk, nobody blinked an eye. But when a little tittie is involved, we all flip out?

I remember it vividly. It was one of those throw up in your mouth moments when I spied that day's edition at the news stand.Mister Bushice wrote:The NYP really showed Claptons Son as sidewalk spaghetti?

Well, since this thread sucks, I'll point out what a pet peeve "this point in time" is.
Any and all use of "This point in time" should be preapproved by the Department of Redundancy Department.

I guess it's a good thing I didn't say "This point in time" then.Dinsdale wrote:Mister Bushice wrote:at one point in time they were.

Uhm... you might wanna shut up, Mr. I Claim To Have A Degree, Yet Didn't Learn Basic Punctuation. You might wanna learn to use basic punctuation properly before you start commenting on the more advanced stuff.
Bushice's original line was "at one point in time they were." The context was whether some titties were nice or not. His response was "At one point in time they were." He was referring to something that occured/existed in the past. The past is a function of time. The ONLY context his statement possibly could have been in was time. Therefore, "point in time" is redundant.
Not even for debate.
It's right up there with...
Close proximity
Absolutely essential

Future plans
Mutual agreement
There's hundreds that are abused every day. Another one that sets me off is "old adage."
But since you're linguistically challenged mv, here's an example that might hit a little closer to home and possibly clear things (not "clear things up") for you --
Try "stupid idiot" for size. Or "illiterate Texas grad."

Re: Bullshit Line of the Day
Oh, and BTW...at one point in time they were
for your edification mvscal, this isn't merely a redundancy -- it's two.
It's clear from the statement that the subject is from the past. Therefore, "were" is redundant, as well.
The grammatically correct response to "Was they nice titties" is "at one point."
And the reason I've yet to comment on the original question is because it was a flagrant use of a colloquialism, whereas the response was an attempt to sound all smart and shit, which both Bushice and mvscal failed miserably.

Re: Bullshit Line of the Day
"were" in that case is not at all redundant.
"at one point" is not a complete sentence. "Were" is the verb. "They were" is implied, but not at all redundant.
At least to us folks who have advanced far enough to actually speak in complete sentences.
(when we choose to)

Ohhhh, dear.
I guess I should slow down on the grammar lessons. I hadn't realized you were this inept.
Nope... nothing wrong with "this."
When referring to any event prior, it occured at a "point," or it occured at a "time."
Since you're really struggling here, maybe this will help -- every moment is a "point."
At this point, I find your lack of basic language skills to be an indictment of your education.

These are both grammatically (and factually) correct statements (or pretty darn close). By definition, doubling up these terms makes them redundant.
Glad I could help where years of college failed.
Edit: OK, the sentence that began with a conjunction is gone... sorry about that.

Don't help him. He's bringing teh grammar funnay.mvscal wrote:The context is that they were once (in the past) nice, but they are not now (in the present). There are two different points of time implied. Using 'this' to distinguish the two is not redundant.
I hope that helped.
