Very unusual that they'd add a game just for the sake of every team playing each other at least once but making that 83rd game at a neutral site for everyone seems fair. Very excited to see the league make this move...the cross-conference games are a great break during the season from the repetitive intraconference and divisional games. Bravo to the NHL on the move...
New NHL scheduling format announced

Figured I'd bump this instead of starting a new thread...an 84-game schedule is going to be voted on during the All-Star break. This would include home-and-home series with teams in the opposite conference...meaning, every team visits every arena each year. Two extra games should produce a nice extra chunk of revenue as well. The only oddity is the uneven number of games against conference opponents outside the division. I would assume they'll have a system in place where you'll have the teams alternate which one gets the extra home game.

I don't like seeing a longer regular season but I'm a huge fan of being able to seeing every team each year. Under the old format, I choose the Wings game I went to based on who they were playing in the rotation. I went to see Crosby in his rookie season when the Pens visited the Joe and I made it a point to see Ovechkin and the Capitals for his first game in Detroit this season. I don't know if this cools down the Wings to the Eastern Conference talk but I know the fans here will like the idea of being able to see the Leafs, Habs, Bruins and Rangers once every year and one less home game of the forced divisional rivalries with Columbus and Nashville.

It's gotta be scary to live in a city that's in such rough shape and they've got that guy calling the shots. What an utter embarassment he's become...but the people only have themselves to blame by electing the guy.
