Congrats to CU on a nice pick up. Scott seems like a really sharp kid. He has a good head on his shoulders. He would have been a nice addition to the team. He chose CU, so he obviously wanted to go to Boulder. I wish him well except when he play Texas.

I cannot wait to see the brand new CU offense that is designed around DS. :roll:

I think we will be OK at RB. Vondrell McGee is going to get most of the carries and I feel good about that. We also had a nice class with Tre' Newton, DeSean Hales, and Jeremy Hills. It is not like the cabinet is bare.

FYI.....the last 5 Star can't miss RB that chose between Texas and CU and went to CU was ......Marcus Houston.....how'd that work out for you, buff fan?????

Maybe we're just arguing semantics here. I'm aware of Biggie's thread, and I'm glad it proved to be true, but there have been lots of "reports" that Scott was either a Buff or a Horn. I started this thread seconds after he officially announced his choice on live TV, so if waiting for an official announcement qualifies as GD, I can live with that.

Either way, I can't wait to see Scott in the Black & Gold. I like the fact that he didn't draw it out and make a big spectacle of it, shuffling hats and shit like some of these other recruits. He pretty much cut right to the chase. Seems like bright kid.

In an interview Wednesday with The Dallas Morning News, Roger Sonsini, the recruiting coordinator for St. Bonaventure High School, questioned Scott's decision to choose Colorado.

"Colorado came in on Friday and said and did something and offered something that Darrell and his mom couldn't pass up," Sonsini said.

Sonsini refused to say what was offered. The Times report said that rumors of a bank job for Alexis Scott, Darrell's mother, had surfaced.

So kiss my ass, this story was broke buy the rivals CU site by a bunch of dumbass boosters who thought they were above getting caught. The ball is now in the gutless wonders (NCAA) court lets see if their rules actually mean anything.

Sonsini is an assistant football coach for St Bonaventure, he was appointed as the recruiting coordinator because the head coach was sick and tired of all the recruiting calls he had to take. Sonsini worked with Scott at the beginning of his junior year to help him narrow his choices down from 200 offers to 5 schools he was interested in. Sonsini was also the screener for all the football players; he limited their exposure from the barrage of recruiters and set up meetings and visits. There is nothing in it for him to lie. I know lots of CU people were claiming that Sonsini was on the OB pay roll and the Texas coaches were paying him to channel Scott to Texas, but the truth is that all the St Bona coaches were telling Scott his best option was Texas.

As for thinking that CU is clean according; to Sonsini the Scotts were visited by 6 CU coaches and Darrel went from being a silent commit to Texas to being a CU commitment over the dead period. The CU posters on Buffstampede were bragging about how they were able to help sway the Scotts with a great new job and how it was justified because everyone does it they just happen to do it better than Texas.

Mack in his press conference today made a few remarks that really hit the nail on the head, keep in mind that he is not allowed to talk about kids that didn't sign with Texas but some of his remarks were pretty telling.

You’re always going to have violations by schools, and that’s in every profession not just ours, because some coaches are going to cheat. That’s the way they’ve made their living. You’re always going to have some families that buy into that and you’re always going to have a certain level of families that look you right in the face and lie to you, and our job is to make sure that we do not recruit a young guy that would be bought, not recruit a family that would be bought and not talk to a family that you think may lie to you. And about 98 percent of the time that works for you, but you’re always going to have people in every profession that are going to break rules. And I’ve talked to Joe Paterno about it because it really used to frustrate me a few years ago. So I said, “Joe, what do you do with guys that are being bought?” And he said, “Stay away from them.” I said, “Do you turn them in?” And he said, “Nah, it doesn’t do any good. Just stay away from them.” So we try to recruit guys that want to come to Texas, and if they don’t want to come, very honestly that’s okay. And if they don’t want to come and you try to force them into coming by over-recruiting them, it usually doesn’t work anyway. We like the ones we get. I think it’s bad every year. More tough decisions are made near the end of Signing Day, and that’s why I wish we had an early signing period, because more coaches panic and more families panic when the pressure gets on.

Gee I wonder who he was talking about, there is a reason momma scott specifically requested that anyone associated with Texas not be allowed to attend the press conference even after they were cleared to attend by ESPN. If you think Ketch is pushing this, well maybe it is because he knows what was going on.

I'm personally not worried about it, DS is not the first to be on the take and he won't be the last, I'm also pretty confident that the DMN will uncover any wrong doing if it exists.

My only concern is if the NCAA is ever going to do anything about it? If they continue to allow this kind of crap then I do hope that Texas bring in someone without the integrity of Mack Brown; hell with our deep pockets we might be the first school to end up with an entire class of 5-star players. And before you start in that Texas cheats, Mack has one of the best reputations among his peers of any coach, and I can guarantee you that we have not had the need to cheat since Mack arrived. About the only thing you can really accuse Mack of is being a bit too nieve when it comes to dealing with character issues on his team, but over the last year he seems to have tightened up on that as well.

C'mon. and, on the by and by, CU did the 6 coaches thing when they made the official in-home with Lynn Katoa too. who they must have bought away from an OU silent verbal, right? when "CU people" say Sonsoni is a hanger-on and looking for (if not already getting) a UT payday....it's "just a rumor". when Ketchum posts stuff, he "knows what's really going on".

we'll see what the DMN comes up with. maybe Hawk and Co. are guilty, but all there is now is a paper running with internet speculation....and what appears to be a lot of sour grapes from UT and UT people.

there have been a lot of people around here saying that Scott has been a CU silent verbal for months. so, i don't put conclusive evidence that wrong-doing occurred in the fact that he might have had a silent verbal over the dead period to UT.

NY Times article on Scott (may require login): sounds like coaching change at position coach is your explanation. that, and CU building it's all-weather practice bubble last off-season. though, D-Scott may be in for a surprise because CU practiced outside in the snow and cold all but maybe once or twice last season (until bowl prep, when they were inside a lot).

Three weeks before signing day, Major Applewhite, a former Longhorns quarterback, was hired as the new assistant head coach and running backs coach. He had been Alabama’s offensive coordinator.

Although Scott had been recruited by Bobby Kennedy, the Texas wide receivers coach, he told his mother that the change of running backs coaches worried him. He said he had made his private commitment without considering the potential impact of the change.

“I was just thinking about other things,” he said Wednesday. “But the more time I thought about it, the more it scared me.”

They shared a concern about Colorado’s weather, but Scott assured his mother that the Buffaloes had an indoor practice facility. He cited the rush-oriented offense and the depth chart, which appears to give him a chance to play as a freshman.

After 15 minutes, Scott declared that Texas and Colorado were his finalists. He revisited his concern about Applewhite’s experience with running backs and said he did not want to attend a university where he did not know the position coach.

“I do need to learn from somebody,” Scott said. “I do need to know how to actually do footwork and everything.”

When the starting Texas tailback Jamaal Charles declared for the N.F.L. draft on Jan. 2, Scott said he was “locked” to play for the Longhorns. But that began to change even though Kennedy and Rucker visited later in January and informed him of the staff change.

Alexis Scott acknowledged that the move had significantly hurt the program’s standing with her son. Still, she asked him if he thought it was a risk to attend Colorado, which went 6-7 last season. Like I said, I'm not worried about it, if something really is there the DMN is going to find it, those freaks always do. As for the NY times article, Ketch has some pretty good sources that said Major Applewhite wasn't going to be a problem since he was sitting right next to Mack when he verbaled to Texas on Mack's in home visit.

The fact is that our runningback coach has colon cancer and was moved to a new position that would allow him to maintain his treatment without the grinding of being a coach. Scott would have even more access to Rucker in his new position than he might have as a position coach.

I personally don't think that part of the article hold any water there are lots of position coaches that didn't play the position they are coaching. Hell wasn't Darian Hagan a QB in college. But lets say this is true, that the real issue was Major Applewhite being his RB coach, why then would he tell the Texas coaches he was Austin bound in the first place. Texas was so sure Major being the RB coach wasn't the issue that on their final inhome visit Kennedy was the only guy Mack felt needed to attend.

As far as integrity goes it's not hard to believe that some coaches actually do things the right way, I seem to remember when Albert Means was saying that Texas lead for him early in his recruitment only to suddenly get dropped. No one could figure out why we would stop recruiting such a high profile athlete and then it became very clear. It even came out that they dropped Texas because Mack would not pay his coach for his services.

The only thing Hagan really has on major is the fact that Hagan has spent a couple years as the coach of that position while Major has spent the last 4 years a a QB coach and an OC. I'm pretty sure that being an OC should give him a pretty good grasp of what is required to be a effective runningbacks coach. And as I understand it Rucker was still going to be helping with the Runningbacks but he was not going to do any travel which is a basic requirement for any assistant position coach.

If not for the questions about Scotts recruitment I also am very happy to see Colorado doing well in recruiting. I've always said that if we can get the Big 12 North to have the true best or 2nd best team in the conference the conference as a whole will be much stronger. IMO Scott going to CU will not be a true issue they don't have a oline right now and probably won't until his junior year, by then CU won't be on the Texas schedule so the only time we will face him at his best will be in the BTCG. Had he chosen another B12 South school I would be much more concerned. At Texas he could have been the missing piece to a championship puzzle, but at CU he will be the catalist to their rebuilding process much like Simms was to Texas.

Either way it looks like Garret Gilbert is about to commit to Texas.

i feel like the "right way" is relative in college athletics. there's too much money involved for everything to be the up and up. obviously only ads with downs syndrome are going to leave a green paper trail, so it's not necessarily integrity that causes a coach to drop a recruit who asks for money, though that's what they point to for their reason for doing so. players, for the most part, get hooked up with peripheral benefits. no one's going to wire $3000 into a player's bank account, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a football player getting $100 back for selling back the same used book i could only get $25 for.

Yes there is a bit of gray area but there are lots of cut and dry right and wrong things out there. A Fedex envelope filled with money is wrong, getting paid for a job you don't do is a No. Boosters offering a job to the parent of a recruit is a No.

Like I said if this is what happened then the DMN will find it, they have blown the whistle on so damn many programs. Jason Schumel from Rivals also reported that both the NCAA and Big 12 are looking into the matter. At this point to me it is a non-issue, the kid will never play a down for Texas and our coaches are already hot on the trail for the 2K9 class.

I thought the "Wild" accusuations were coming from the coaches of St Bonaventure, the high school that Scott attended. Yes there is lots of speculation but for now I'm content to believe that if there was anything to it the DMN, Big 12 and the NCAA will find it. The comments by the kids high school coaches and Mack Brown all I need to know about the situation.
