Anyone read this story? It's a true story about the discovery of a WWII U boat off the coast of New Jersey and the divers who spent years trying to identify it. It's a pretty cool story and reminds you not to believe everything in the history books. It also gives you some insight into the insane sport of wreck/salvage diving.

Without giving much away, the identity of the ship was a surprise as it was thought ot have been sunk elsewhere & not anywhere near the US coast. There was a commission after WWII to document the disposition of all U-boats, it was thought to be the definative resource on the subject, that wasn't exactly the case. As a historian, I think you would certainly appreciate & enjoy the book.

i watched one of these bullshit national geographic type things the last week. the treasure dorks were after the carpathia or something like that that saved the frozen titanic people. the treasure people found a ship but it wasnt that one and i was really pissed off that i ddint apoass out a few minutes earlier.

Yes, I read this last fall, twis. I really liked it... think I finished it in two days. I will say that I thought the ending was pretty anticlimactic though. Just Chatterton and Kohler shaking hands as they ascend from the deep.

The two of them were featured on show on TLC, Disc, A&E, Travel or something like that. It wasn't about the U-boat in Shadow Divers, but another wreck they were trying to ID. Was kinda cool to put a face and actual voices to the two men.

Yes, agreed... I think it would be a good book for mvscal. While not riddled w/history, it does have enough within that he would find it interesting. I really couldn't care any less about scuba diving, but after reading this book, I now know a lot ore about the technical aspects and danger of deep scuba diving. Good shit.
