Second Round thread

Post by Shoalzie »

This was an easy upset to pick, West Virginia over Duke. I had that on my bracket...you could see it coming from a mile away. The Devils should've lost on Thursday to Belmont and now the Mountaineers are out-Dukeing with spreading the floor and bombing it from deep and they are exploiting the Blue Devils biggest weakness...their lack of rebounders. It's 41-19 right now on the glass. This Duke team overachieved this year and were overrated going into this tournament. They miss a big man presence...thank you Huggs for putting them out of their misery.

I've got Purdue in the Elite 8 out of that half of the bracket but West Virginia looks like a team capable of getting there as well. Very fun team to watch...rack them on eliminating America's team. Coach K needs to get himself a big man ASAP.

How happy is UCLAFan right now? They already had the easiest draw and Duke, Drake and Connecticut are gone...it should be a very easy road to San Antonio.

Wisconsin playing lights out right now against K-State, despite Beasley's best efforts. At a #3 seed, it looks to me like the Badgers were under-rated. Shouldn't the Big 10 champ get more respect?

No surprise at all with WVU over Duke. I have WVU going to the Elite 8. They are a physical team that can play inside and shoot from long range. Alexander and Ruoff are very good players. Mazzula stepped up huge today and totally outplayed that cry baby Paulus. Good job 'eers!!!

Wisconsin looked sharp against Kansas State and a great game between Purdue and Xavier with the Muskateers moving on. Purdue will back next year in a big way...that was a fun young overachieving team to watch this year. Lost my first Elite 8 team with Purdue and it probably won't be the last. Great first half of the quadruple-header...

That's quite an under statement.

With both strength and precision, not to mention playing smart, they're going to be a tough out.

Very impressive team.

The Pac-10 get a sweep in the two game miniseries against the Big East...Washington State blows away the Irish and Marquette couldn't finish off Stanford and Lopez hits the big shot with less than 2 seconds to go to win. Kansas looking like they'll advance to Ford Field.

Kevin Love is a good player but the guy gets away with murder on defense. He had 7 blocks and on at least 5 of them he got the guy with his body before he got the ball. The last play was clearly a foul. I watched it on slo-mo and Sloan was clearly hit on the arm.....I guess the refs missed the call because they were to busy watching Dick Enberg and Jay Bilas blow Kevin Love.

Somehow, you forgot to mention the beatings HE takes on just about every shot in the post. Contact every time...Perhaps your viewing angle was slanted....

Not slanted at all. I hate A&M. Having an ex-bruin announcer doing the game is a slanted move by CBS. Playing the game in Anaheim is slanted toward UCLA. It was a tough physical game. I thought that Love got away with a ton. But to have Enberg and Bilas suck his cock after every play was too much to take. The last time I saw the media act like this it was 2005 and the USC Trojans had just finished beating Alexander the Great and Napoleon....according to ESPN.

looks to me like Love sets a lot of moving picks. though, everybody does these days (Kevin Bookout may have been about the best i've seen at it). anyway, this looks like at least one foul to me.

props to the Aggies for a tough game and a nice finish to the year...when they were circling the drain a bit for a while. though, i'll never like Mark Turgeon. was a jerkoff as a player. love him if he's on your team, i guess. but, he wasn't on my team. i do think he's probably a pretty good basketball coach, in the long run.

yeah, it's hard to count out Izzo in March.

Knight busted out some great insights like "the team who makes the most shots will win". while i'd much rather hear him talk about basketball than listen to Seth Davis and Clark Kellogg "make picks"....that's post-game radio show Ricardo Patton-esque insight.

Props to the Sparties on their win last night. Fields and Neitzel played to a virtual draw but Neitzel hit some timely threes. Neither team really has much of a bench and I thought Panthers were better in the paint going into the game but Suton and Naymick outscored and outrebounded Young and Blair. If Memphis survives today...I think State could give them a game if they can get the same kind of contribution out Lucas like they did on Saturday night.

I like how he's hunkered down with that really serious look on his face...you think he's about to say something really profound, and then breaks out with something like you suggested. It's kind of disappointing.

The "bench" is basically integrated in the starting 5. It's constantly on rotation. And guys like Walton (who's one of the best man on man defenders in the nation in my opinion) and Chris Allen make tremendous hustle plays that won't make ESPN highlight reels.

Enberg stopped announcing Ucla games since before you were born....and he's still a homer? Ucla gets the geographic nod based on seeding...you do know that, right? Calls have a way of evening out during the course of a season/tounament. Ucla's job is not to make those calls, but to play through them. Anyway, unless Shipp and an African can pull their respective heads out of their asses, it will be a moot point in the "Elite 8"

Speaking of UCLA, thanks to CBS and Coke for the commercial reminding me of the Tyus Edney 3.8 second drive and shot over the flat-footed statue that was Derek Grimm that beat Mizzou in 1995. :brad:

You think that Enberg doesn't root for Ucla? Please. I understand the seeding process. I just think it is sad that the guy was obviously fouled and Ucla got the hometown call when Sloan was fouled not once but twice on the same play. Oh yeah...that dunk was after the buzzer.

Hopefully A&M will learn blowing 10 point leads isn't in your best interest.

Not at all. I just got tired of listening to the 2 jerkoffs gush over Kevin Love. Ron Franklin was the voice of Texas for years and he is completely unbiased.

RACK! Davidson and that assasin Curry for knocking off Georgetown. That was fun to watch. Too bad Butler couldn't have done the same to Tennessee. Both were great David vs. Goliath 2 vs. 10 seed games

Cal got screwed even worse than Texas A&M and Stanford by the refs.

Either UCLA is a team of destiny, just plain lucky, or are paying off the refs.

How else can you explain the number of game deciding bad calls/no calls that went their way?

I had Davidson also but I've got Wisconsin winning and going to the Elite 8. The Wildcats was a definite "it" team going into the tournament.

I'm not going to point the finger at the refs for that bad call as the reason we lost to UCLA. We had a 10 point 2nd half lead. We blew it. Maybe next year.

We'll have a strong team coming back. Hopefully Jordan hits a big man camp and figures out when to pass out, when to take it to the hole and that 3 steps usually results in a travel call. Thanks Joseph Jones and Dominique Kirk for the years of great ball you two played. I wish they could have finshed off the game as they would likely make it to the Elite 8 had they gotten through UCLA.

Props to UCLA on their comeback. I have UCLA to win it all in my bracket. Unless they turn it up a notch or 10 though, they are done in the Elite 8.
