Thanks for helping establish cred for the conference....
How the fuck does Oynie coach that team to a loss....

Yes, but Cal would still crush all those Big XII teams that are in the second round. The conference is THAT good, top to bottom.
Re: Oregone, SuC, Mildcats...way to represent...
4 returning starters.
3 of them seniors.
1 of those a McDonald's AA.
Another was the Oregon HS player of the year.
The other is an NBA player's kid.
And they came up with a season like this.
Didnt even get to watch the game, due to being stuck in Nowhere. But I heard all about it. Oh, how I've heard about it.
Good effort, though... good enough to get a new coach. Excellent recruiter, who can't coach for a fuck.
Have a lead to protect? Just start jacking up quick 3's. Down 5 with a few minutes left? Jack up some more 3's, because when the shot clock says "17," they know it really means "0."
See you next fall, Mark Few.

You really think Knight will off Kent? I heard Few may head for Indiana...

Knight isn't involved. That's the AD's deal. So naturally, Knight hired an AD who doesn't like Ernie Recruits Many Coaches Shit. The Seer wrote:You really think Knight will off Kent?
Few is from Creswell, just outside of Eugene. He attended U of O.I heard Few may head for Indiana...
These things indicate that he probably wants the Oregon job... oh, that and the deal where he has it written into his Zag contract that he can opt out without penalty at any time to take the Oregon job (but nowhere else).
There is that.

Dins. You didn't happen to notice that Few did the exact same thing, did you?
Gonzaga had an 11 point lead in their first round game, only to let somebody go off for 30 points in the the 2nd half, all the while jacking up quick threes and watching their lead evaporate into a loss.
Kent isn't getting fired. Kilkenny gave him a vote of support last week.
As to the other talk. The Actual word is that Phil Knight likes Ernie Kent and that's a big part of the reason he's been around for so long.
No chance Kent is fired.

as long as they don't have to play A&M again (a team that was just above .500 in the Big XII), they should be OK.Jsc810 wrote:UCLA will win the national championship, and that should look good for the conference.

Yeah, but that's out of character for a Few team, more or less. It's standard operating procedure for a Kent eam.JayDuck wrote:Dins. You didn't happen to notice that Few did the exact same thing, did you?
How many McDonald's AA's did Few have, anyway?
And just think if Few gets to recruit to a town where black people aren't terrified to live.
Kind of like that "vote of support" he got when his contract was "renegotiated" to the point that the only thing tat really changed was the buyout was cheaper?Kent isn't getting fired. Kilkenny gave him a vote of support last week.
You know... that WHOLE 2 year extension with the cheap buyout?
Anyone who doesn't believe that the writing is on the wall for Ernie is blind. He may last one more year, but he isn't going to be there when the arena opens. Not going to happen.
And why would they keep him? Sure, the eye-popping recruiting class every few years is nice, but the underachievement he leads the kids to is inexcusable. Three freaking bigshot seniors, and he accomplished that?
Phil likes to win. The man doesn't come across as particularly loyal (although he's warmed upto his other grandson in recent years... but I'll save the Dinsdalian anectdotes). From were te program was rebuilt from, Kent was fine. But in recent years, Oregon is getting its Ducks in a row to make the big time, and Kent isn' a part of that plan.As to the other talk. The Actual word is that Phil Knight likes Ernie Kent and that's a big part of the reason he's been around for so long.
A coach that was actually capable of recognizing a problem, and actually making some sort of in-game adjustment on the fly, then having the players actually do it would be nice. And frankly, Ernie is quite possibly the worst in-game coach I've ever seen.
No chance Kent is fired.
"No" is a mighty powerful word thee, Jay. Matter of fact, I believe it qualifies as an absolute. If'n I'm not mistaken, you don't live around here anymore (??). I'm pretty sure you have an internet connection, though. But I'll give you a little news from the Homefront -- Ducksfans are pretty much looking for Ernie's head on a platter right now. Seems to be a decent majority feel this way. But hey, it's not like they need to start selling tickets to pay off a $200 million bill right now, so I'm sure Kilkenny will ignore the fans' wishes and continue on down the road of mediocrity. Makes perfect financial success, especially sinvce that bigtime Kent supporter known as Phil has hinted that he'll cover the bonds if the arena is a financial disaster.
But Phil likes Ernie, and what's a couple hundred mil between "friends," right?
I think what bothers fans te most, is that Ernie has never ever made a mistake... just ask him. After each loss, he'll tell you without hesitation that he's the greatest coach ever, and the players are just losers. His willingness to embarrass his players and shout them down in front of fans, opponents, and media is inexcusable. He can be classy one minute, and a classless jerk the next.
As much as I'd love to see a guy stick around for 100 years and be the team's identity, he's just not that guy.

Um. Dins. Look at Gonzaga's recruits and results.
Austin Daye, Matt Bouldin, Larry Gurganious, Josh Heytvelt, David Pendergraft...These guys were all rated higher than anybody on our roster, other than Malik Hairston.
And Few's been one and done in back to back years in the tournament. In fact, Gonzaga has been upset by a higher seeded team in 5 straight years.
There are coaches we could get better than Kent, but Few is not an upgrade.
Its an absolute, Dins. Kent isn't getting fired this year or next."No" is a mighty powerful word thee, Jay. Matter of fact, I believe it qualifies as an absolute. Don't worry about where I call home at the moment. I'm as connected back home as I've ever been. I'm not even voicing my own opinion into the matter, or saying whether or not I want him to be here, but he isn't going anywhere for a few years, at least. He won't be fired before we have a new arena, and Kilkenney has pretty much said as much.
If after we have a new arena our results don't improve, then you will see action taken. Not before.
Like him or not, like the inconsistancy or not, Kent took a bottom feeding program, in the Pac-10 and turned it into a program that goes to the tournament about half the time.
He took a program that was a bottom feeder and won a Pac-10 title. In more than the last 25 years only UCLA, STanford Arizona and Oregon have won an outright Pac-10 title.
He won 2 Pac-10 tournament titles, which is tied with UCLA for the most.
He went to 2 Elite 8's, which has only been bested by UCLA and Arizona.
And he's won the 4th most games behind those schools as well.
He's not going to be fired right now, regardless of what the fans want. I would also say that the idea that we've consistantly underachieved is pretty much overblown. We've been the 4th most successful program in the conference and haven't had the 4th best talent.
UCLA, Arizona, Stanford, USC all have better talent than us. We are fighting with Cal, UW and ASU for 5th-8th place in talent, doing it in the state that produces the least amount of talent, with the worst facilities.
Kents done a good job here overall and will see the new arena. If he can't improve with the added benefit, he'll be gone. Last year's run and even just making the tournament this year has assured him of that. He won't be fired for missing the tournament next year.
Re: Oregone, SuC, Mildcats...way to represent...
Oh, I won't. None of my freaking business, by any means. I seem to remember you mentioning somewhere over the years that you lived somewhere else... s'all.JayDuck wrote:Don't worry about where I call home at the moment.
Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of messageboards?I'm not even voicing my own opinion into the matter, or saying whether or not I want him to be here
I'd certainly like to hear your opinion, but if it's as secret as your locale, I understand.
Kilkenny is the boss... kind of. He answers to the people who buy the tickets (I notice that Frohnmeyer couldn't stay any farther away from the athletic department-btw. Hell, does the guy even go to games? I'm guessing he gets decent seats if he does). And if there's outcry for a new direction, he might have to act.He won't be fired before we have a new arena, and Kilkenney has pretty much said as much.
But it's Ernie... the master of doing as little as possible to keep his job. When he's on the ropes, somehow he gets his guys to actually play ball like they're prepared or something. They make a deep run, win the conference tourney, whatever. This year, it's once again a great recruiting class. I think his recruits are the only reason he might see another season.
If after we have a new arena our results don't improve, then you will see action taken. Not before.
I wouldn't bet the rent money on that, although it's certainly a reasonable assessment.
