Rule change

Post by Adelpiero »

If you have a personal foul, it should not get wiped out by a Holding call.

was watching iowa st MU game on FCSC.

You should atleast gain 5 yard difference, or it is first down, where ball was spotted.

No way a Hold should equal a personal foul. i have no problem with a Hold and a Defensive holding, pass int equaling out. Didnt they used to take the 2 penalties and the biggest penalty would still get marked off?

It all depends on live ball vs deadball! Any live ball fouls by opposing teams will wipe each other away and you replay the down. All dead ball fouls will be enforced regardless of any live ball fouls.

For example. Offense has two players moving in motion at the snap, that is a live ball foul the instant the ball is snapped. Then the defense holds one of the WRs, another live ball foul. Say the QB ends up running for 5 yards, wipe the play away and replay the down.

Take the exact same play and the same result but the QB is hit out of bounds. The two live ball fouls from above are still wiped away, but the Dead Ball personal foul is marked off from the previous LOS and the down indicator is set to 1st and 10.

All dead ball fouls should be enforced and they should be enforced in the order in which they occured. If there is a dead ball foul against the offense, and then a dead ball foul against the defense they should be marked off in this order. The SEC officials and Pac 10 officials are horrible about this. They just say offsetting fouls and go on to the next down. This is incorrect especially close to a goal line. Example: First play after a touch back and the ball is on the 20. After an incomplete pass the WR and DB push and hit each other. The official throws a flag against both players. This doesn't just wipe the fouls away, rather he needs to know who was at fault first so the penalty can be enforced as such. If the WR fouled first then the ball would be moved back half the distance to the goal, ie the 10, and then the DBs penalty would move the ball out to the 25. 1st and 10 for the offense at their 25.

Also a live ball foul and a dead ball foul against the same team on the same play will both be enforced as long as there were no live ball fouls by the other team.

You also made a point about the severity of the fouls. While the enforcement makes no distinction, remember officials can still use things like an unsportsman like foul or other if it very serious.
