McCain will thump Obama in November. I'm talking landslide. Hillary would lose, but at least keep the race respectable.
Obama - McCain is the best possible matchup the Democrats could have gotten. Hillary, by contrast, would have been Democratic Death Wish # 8,902,647.
McCain's weakness is that the Republican base doesn't like him. Between that and their demoralization over the Bush Presidency, they're likely to stay home in November. The one thing that could have changed that would have been Hillary as the Democratic nominee. The mere name of Clinton is, to these people, the equivalent of waving a red cape in front of a bull. They would have shown up just to vote against her. Now they've been deprived of that. No chance in hell of getting them to the booth in November, and McCain loses as a result.
Come November, you'll see states in the Democratic column which probably haven't been there since FDR was President.
