Another jab at Belicheat and the Patsies...
Colts coach Tony Dungy recently spoke to students at a high school in Tampa, and the Tampa Tribune reports that when a student asked him if there is anything from the 2007 NFL season that he wishes he could have put in his autobiography, he brought up Patriots Spygate story:
"We talk about how important it is to do things the right way and have integrity so that when you do win, people can never ask that question," he said. "That's the great thing that I'm happy about with our team.
"Yes, we won. But no one is really going to ask, 'Did they cheat? Did they do things the right way?' I think our record speaks for itself and if you're a true champion, that's the way you'd like it to be."
The implication from Dungy seems to be that the Colts are more of a "true champion" than the Patriots because people ask of the Patriots, "did they cheat?" For all the talk that Dungy and Bill Belichick have had rather frosty exchanges when their teams have played, their next post-game handshake could be even more awkward.
...apparently there were a hellava lot more tapes turned over to the league office this week by Matt Walsh, but according to the report there was nothing the league had not already known about..

In a way, sort of laughable coming from a team who left B'more slithering away like a snake in the wee hours of the morning.

I'm not hanging my hat anywhere. What Dungy says is absolutely correct. There's nothing to argue about. It seems the Pats were up to shennanigans and Dungy's comments in light of that were spot on. I just think words like "integrity", coming from the Colts, is kind of funnay as the organization wasn't all that interested in it when they dealt with Baltimore, MD. that's all. When anyone thinks of the Pats - they think "Spygate". When I think of the Colts, I think - slithering out of Baltimore.
Relax, when most people think Redskins, they think of it's racist owner (Marshall) who was against blacks in the league and that was a loooong time ago.

I wonder how many other teams have done this? I can't imagine the Pats being the only team smart enough to try and pull this off.

So of what do you think when you think Art Modell and the Browns?

Oh, it's not a moot one, it's just sort of laughable. All-righty then.Tom In VA wrote:Dungy's point is not a moot one.
Re: Another jab at Belicheat and the Patsies...
That's right Dungy's point isn't up for debate, in my opinion anyway, he's right. But coming from a T-E-A-M like the Colts - I don't regard sneaking out of Baltimore and they did S-N-E-A-K - as being a pinnacle in terms of integrity. So it's "sort" of laughable. Not entirely laughable, because Dungy is spot on, as coaches go he has more integrity than Bellichek and his win is a more pure win. But sort of laughable because when I see the white horseshoe, I think of Ryder trucks pulling out of Baltimore in the dead of night. So I let out a fucking chortle and thought I'd share in case anyone might want to chuckle a bit.
Trying to bring the funnay. I was aiming for a base hit, it's apparent I struck out.

Re: Another jab at Belicheat and the Patsies...
They slithered out at night because it was the practical way to leave.
It wasn't necessarily out of cowardice.
Leaving in broad daylight would have resulted in a riot, injury(s) or death(s).
The teams belong to the owners, not the cities.
That's the reality.

The Kansas City Chiefs are owned by the Hunt family, true, but this city has ponied up bigtime to provide them with every last incentive.
KC owns the Chiefs, much like Green Bay owns the Packers.
Don't confuse the 'duhs dysfunctional NFL franchise with the rest of its members.

No. The Packers are actually owned by individual citizens of Wisconsin. The Chiefs are owned by the Hunts. Not in any way comparable.War Wagon wrote:KC owns the Chiefs, much like Green Bay owns the Packers.

The issue can be one of emotion for a fan, Wagon, but Goober is right.
GB is the ONLY team in the NFL that is rightfully owned by the city it plays it's home games in.
The fact that KC shells out for Hunt's team to play there doesn't give them claim to ownership of the team.

Didn't the NFL pass some sort of rule making trust ownership illegal for the rest of the franchises? Seems like a odd thing to do, givin Green Bay's success.

I think the problem is that Dungy made the statement, not the Colts. Next time, lean in a little and try to get hit by the pitch. If m2 leases out a space at the mall so that he can sell windchimes there it doesn't mean that the mall, or city the mall is in, owns his business.
It just means that m2 has a contract that he must honor.
He still be the owner.

So now Senator Arlen Specter wants an outside, independent investigation of Spygate. Seems he doesn't appreciate Goodell just sweeping it all under the rug and destroying evidence. Anti-trust exemption, much?

The Media did make up crap. The Boston Enquirer came out with a story the day before the Super Bowl that the Pats taped the Rams walk through. No such tape exists and they have now apologized.
Well I guess they learned how to use speculation to their own advantage. If you are shown to be a cheat imply that everyone around you is a cheat too instead of taking responsibility.....

Matt Walsh confirmed to Senator Arlen that the Jets taped. So why wouldn't they look into all 32 teams if a second was now implicated? Walsh was credible in one regard but not on this?
Specter: Walsh indicated Jets taped as well
May 14, 2008 12:34 PM
Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando
Sen. Arlen Specter said former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh indicated he saw the Jets taping signals at one point during a Jets-Patriots game, but Walsh did not say anything about it at the time. Specter also thinks the NFL hasn't done enough to investigate the Patriots' taping practices in 2003, 2004 and 2005, even though Walsh told Specter he observed, from the stands, the Patriots taping signals after Walsh had left the organization as an employee.
