Total fucking horseshit.

Bears - Packers at #10? Behind Cowboys - Packers?

No way the #1 NFL rivalry involves an AFL team. Fuck, no AFL team belongs in there.

Patriots - Colts? Yeah, that's been a rivalry for almost 10 years now.

And what's with #7? A three-way?

Patriots - Colts? Yeah, that's been a rivalry for almost 10 years now.
That's the problem with pro sports "rivalries." With the exception of a very few, rivalries today are cyclical, and only sustainable if both teams are playoff-caliber and marketable. When the 49ers and Cowboys get together these days do people really view it as a "rivalry?" It's absolutely nothing like the rivalry between them from the 80s/90s.

The list needs to be broken down into eras. Some of those matchups today have no relevance.

Agreed, but some do and always have. Bears - Packers should have been #1.

I know where Goober is coming from.
It's hard to look at that list and wrap your brain around the idea that, for example, the Broncos - Browns is a better all-time rivalry than Bears - Packers.
But for a period of years, yes, all of those listed were strong rivalries.

I'd break down the best rivalries of the Super Bowl Era like this ...

Top 5 regular season rivalries
5. Rams v. 49ers - I could have named a few others in this spot, but went with this old NFL rivalry
4. Browns v. Steelers - very strong 'neighborhood' rivalry with stong fan bases
3. Raiders v. Chiefs - bitter AFL holdover rivalry - Chiefs v. Broncos and Bronc's v. Raiders also considered
2. Bears v. Packers - arguably the greatest rivalry in pro fooball history
1. Cowboys v. Redskins - Both teams with multiple Super Bowl wins, best overall rivalry of the SB Era

Top 5 playoff rivalries
5. Oilers v. Steelers - very short lived, but intense
4. Cowboys v. 49ers - have had numerous compelling playoff games
3. Cowboys v. Steelers - Super Bowl rivals
2. Patriots v. Colts - strong modern day playoff rivalry
1. Raiders v. Steelers - pure hatred, great teams, GREAT stuff

Oh, OK. We're talking about the Super Bowl era. Not the history of the NFL. Thanks for the clarification.

To turn it another way, you know, Goobs, GB and daBeerzzz have both sucked rhino gonad for a LOT of the past 40 yrs.

How often have their games actually meant a whole lot during the Super Bowl era?

More times than not, one or both of the teams were pretty awful.

Just historic value.

all that i can say is....that...every game that i have been to in Cleveland over the last 30+ years....IS that a PITTSBURGH SUCKS CHANT ALWAYS comes OUT!

doesn't matter whom the opponent is...sorry.

PITTSBURGH SUCKS (and Cincinnati swallows....)

Ann Arbor is a WHORE as well.

And even then it was the most intense rivalry in the NFL. They both sucked a lot after Lombardi left, but since the mid-80's one or both teams have been fairly competitive. And I thought we were talking about the entire history of the NFL, where the Packers lead with 12 titles and the Bears are second with 9.

They made the list the top 10 rivalries in NFL history, Goober.
I chose to make lists for the Super Bowl Era.

Hey, I'm on your side here.
I think it's beyond wack to make a Top 10 all-time rivalry list and have Dungver v. Cleveland ahead of GB v. Chi.

ALL-TIME, yes, I think you can make a strong case that Chicago v. GB is #1.

I understand, pops. I just think that their top 10 should have been labelled for the Super Bowl era, not NFL history.

Gotta side with Goobs on this. Even when Chicago/GB or Dallas/Foreskins were sucking cack, their games always had the smell of rivalry. I'd make my arguments for the Boys/Skins being #1, but could easily listen to the same argument of GB/Chicago.

Rack rivalries, and smacking the piss out of the Redshins this year.

Mutual hatred among the players, coaches, and fans. Nothing else in the NFL even comes close. Players, fans & coaches would even fight each other.

Honestly the biggest rivals for the Patriots in my opinion are the Dolphins and Jets. Growing up as a kid the Dolphins were the most hated and despised. In more recent times the animosity and games played betwen the Pats and Jets is unreal.

I like beating the Colts and all, but a rivalry I would say no.....
New England Patriots
2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016 Champions

Boston Red Sox
2004, 2007, 2013 Champions

Boston Celtics
2008 Champions

Boston Bruins
2011 Champions

Chefs duhs really started declining over the 2000 decade and now with both mired in mediocrity it's more of mutual apathy.
The Doinks however are truly hated - there is really just an overwhelming feeling of wanting to maim all things orange

Funny but if you were to classify the three in HS terms (cue goobs and paul):

Chef Fans - The hicks
Duh Fans - The Goth losers
Doink Fans - preppy fags

You'll just never ever get common ground with those groups

True- I went to every Mule game at Arrowhead between 2003-2006 (all Chief WINS, BTW- they're now 8-0 against the Donks when I'm there) and at every one there was always multiple fistfights, LOTS of crazy vulgar smack-talking, and even some of the ladies were throwing haymakers at each other (got to break one of them up personally  ). I've said it before and I'll say it again....I hate the Donkeys with every fiber of my being and they can fuck off and die.

It's a pretty apt summary.
Good one, Scott.

Just my opinion, but Oakland and KC have better fans than Dungver ... overall.

Yeah, even in the suck years for both teams, thier games were like Army/Navy games now. And any Army/Navy "fan" don't read too much into that. I'm just talking about two teams that suck who lay it all out on the field. If that ain't an intense rivalry, I don't know what is. Also throw in the Border War teams for teams that suck who leave it on the field.

Talk about a leading question...

Here's what I know about Chargerfans... when their team sucks, they can be found taking long walks on the beach. You wouldn't even know they had an NFL franchise. Not a care in the world.

The rest of the AFC West, not so much.

You want a money take?

How about a fuckin' KC douche bag fan who spouts off all preseason on how the Griefs are going to win the AFC West, then when they shit the bed (about gm 6), he roots for them to lose the rest of their games so KC will have the highest possible draft pick.

:paul:

:bode:

Obviously rivalries are made when both teams are very good. Many of these rivalries are better as memories than they will play out in the next couple of years.

10. Bears - Packers - Aaron Rodgers?
9. Broncos - Browns - Maybe.......
8. Cowboys - Steelers - A good matchup the next few years
7. Cowboys - Rams - Vikings - 1 for 3
6. Colts - Patriots - A great match up
5. Cowboys - Packers - See Bears/ Packers
4. Redskins - Cowboys - ?
3. Giants - 49ers - one sided
2. 49ers - Cowboys - one sided, 49ers stink
1. Raiders - Steelers - one sided

9. Broncos - Browns huh?
8. Cowboys - Steelers awesome SB rivalry 30 years ago
7. Cowboys - Rams - Vikings 'boys-vikes, maybe. how thefukk do the rams fit in this?
6. Colts - Patriots best currently. we'll see how it holds up over time.
5. Cowboys - Packers nahhh
4. Redskins - Cowboys the real number 1.
3. Giants - 49ers nahhhh, again.
2. 49ers - Cowboys nope.
1. Raiders - Steelers most intense hateful rivalry, evah. but, it's 30 years since it meant anything.

Out of curiousity, to whom?

As a Giants fan, you can pretty much take any other NFC East team and you have a good longstanding rivalry with them.
